Staycation + Adam’s Life Hack

Hey there! Sorry I went MIA for a couple of days. I was planning to blog while Adam and I were on our staycation but I forgot my laptop at home. We realized last minute that we were able to bring Cecil to the hotel, so I ended up rushing around packing him an overnight bag and totally forgot the laptop :).

We vlogged the whole staycation – I would love if you would check it out!

I would also really, really love and appreciate it if you subscribe to my YouTube channel. You’ll receive notifications as soon as I put up new videos. Okay, enough self-promo!

Adam, Cecil and I stayed at the Atlantic Hotel & Spa in case you’re ever headed over here to Fort Lauderdale and looking for a pet friendly hotel.

The only complaint I have about the whole weekend is that they ran out of king suites so we ended up in a room with two queen beds. #FirstWorldProblems

Cecil didn’t really seem to mind though since he got his own bed! Although, as you can imagine in the end we were all piled into the same bed to sleep.

We didn’t check in to the hotel until about 6pm on Monday afternoon so we just chilled out and ordered delivery to the room. We were probably asleep by midnight which meant I was able to wake up at the break of dawn to watch the sunrise!

When Adam finally got up we walked down to a little Mexican restaurant to get some lunch. Even though we frequently go to the beach to eat, we had never been to this place before. I was a little hesitant because Mexican can either be super good or super bad…

Luckily the food here was super good! Everything tasted really fresh and authentic. I scarfed down three tacos like it was my last meal, and Adam enjoyed a giant burrito!

The restaurant is called The Mexican Cantina and I highly recommend it if you’re in the area. The prices are reasonable too – my tacos were only $2 each!

After lunch the typical summer afternoon showers rolled in and sprinkled the beach in some fresh rain. It wasn’t hard enough that the beach cleared out, but we decided to relax in the room until it stopped. The rain hardly ever lasts long here.

Can you even tell it was rainy? The skies were a little grey but there was no thunder or lightning.

After the rain passed through Adam and I shimmied into our bathing suits and headed down to the pool. As much as I absolutely LOVE the beach, I don’t really like going into the ocean.

If you’ve been reading my blog long enough then you know I have a weird fish phobia. I don’t want to look at fish, touch them, think about them or share the water with them! The pool is my kind of place.

I forgot to bring sunscreen but they had some for sale in the spa at the hotel. I was pleased to find the brand they carry is cruelty free :). It also smells pretty amazing – like bananas and coconut!

We ended up spending a few hours just soaking in the sun by the pool, drinking piña coladas and pretending we didn’t have to go to work the next day.

Around 4pm we started getting hungry so we ordered a hummus plate. I was sort of disappointed in the amount of veggies that came with it, but the hummus was homemade and super fresh!

Eventually we peeled ourselves away from the pool and went for a walk up and down the beach. Adam grabbed himself a slice of pizza from Primanti Brothers and then we settled into the room with a bottle of wine.

Oh and I stopped into a little shop to pick up some postcards for the postcard exchange I’m doing. I can’t wait to start getting them in the mail :). Here’s what you can expect in return!

As the sun began to set the party at our hotel began! There was a DJ on the pool deck playing the latest pop hits, and people came out to grab a seat to watch the fireworks show.

This is the part I had been waiting 12 months for. Last 4th of July I said to Adam that I wanted to book a hotel room with a balcony that overlooks the ocean to watch the fireworks — and the whole stay was exactly what I hoped it would be!

Adam and I definitely want to make this a 4th of July tradition, and I think Cecil does too! He was so interested in the beach, constantly looking out the windows at the water, the birds and all the people.

I’m already looking forward to next year… and maybe even sooner. After all my birthday is coming up in less than a month :).

Did you shoot off any fireworks, or go see a fireworks show?
Have you ever brought your pet on vacation with you?

      I highly recommend it! 🙂

For some reason i am obsessed with Cecil sleeping on vacation bed picture LOL Your view was amazing, and I think I loved the night view even more! All the lights looked really cool and fireworks over water are always better 🙂

Adam and I are obsessed with it too! I mean, how cute is it?!

YES seeing the fireworks over the ocean was great! And it was especially nice to not be in a huge crowd of people all angling to get a good view. I’m not a big crowd person so I loved being in our room even if the view was partially obstructed!

Looks like an awesome getaway! What a cool way to “vacation” in your own hometown!

Did the fireworks bother Cecil? Or were they far enough away that the booming wasn’t too bad?

The fireworks were pretty close and definitely booming but Cecil’s not a scaredy cat at all. He’s probably the most confident cat I’ve ever met. Adam and I sat out on the balcony watching the fireworks and Cecil laid down right in front of the sliding glass doors half snoozing, half looking at whatever he could see!

What a great time! I want to swim in that pool! As much as I love the water and we go to Mexico a lot, I am a pool person and not an ocean person! I’m a bit scared of the rip tide. Even though I know you are supposed to swim parallel to the beach until you get out of it, it still scares me! We had a lot of fireworks this past weekend. My sister always has a party on July 1st to honor her late husband and my nephew and his friends do a fireworks show! It’s an awesome time and it turns into a neighborhood party. Then on Tuesday, Rick’s brother had an all day/all night lake party and we got another show! Super busy, fun weekend — we were kind of exhausted by yesterday. I like what you guys did! Looks so fun and low key. P.S. I would have asked for more veggies. I am always like “what’s the worst thing they can say? no?”. Hummus is like a food group to me so I would have needed more!!

That’s so cool that her party turns into a neighborhood party, I love that!

Everything Adam and I do is low key, haha. When I was typing this post up I was thinking “okay, we got to the hotel at 6pm and were asleep by midnight, and what did we do in between? Not a whole lot.” But that’s totally our kind of night! We’re homebodies even on “vacation” 🙂

I’m glad I’m not the only person who loves being near the ocean but doesn’t like going in it! Most people who go to the beach with me think it’s so weird that I won’t go in, especially since it’s usually blazing hot here, but I don’t need that fish infested water touching me! LOL

I am so glad you guys had a ton of fun on your staycation and that Cecil could join you! Now, I am sure you didn’t let him out on the balcony right? When I lived in my apartment before I was married, I let Christmas out on the balcony from time to time. I cannot BELIEVE I let him do that. One time he jumped up on the RAILING and I was like… okay I can’t do this anymore. It makes me really sick to think about that.

Was it cool watching the storm from your balcony? I’m glad the weather cleared up for the fireworks. Was Cecil scared of them?

No, as much as Cecil wanted out on the balcony he stayed inside. I think when he was younger I was a lot more lax about the things he did too. Like I used to sometimes take him to the store with me in an oversized purse and now I would be terrified to do that! What if he jumped out?!

I loved watching everything from the balcony – the sunrise, the fireworks, the storm, pretty much everything. It made me really want an oceanfront condo but I know it would be a bad investment due to our country’s inability to take action against global warming. The beaches here are already eroding. We have to truck in sand from other parts of Florida.

Cecil wasn’t scared of the fireworks! He’s honestly a super brave cat. Very little scares him!

You took him to the store in your purse!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Yes, I was basically Paris Hilton but with a cat 😀

    Hi Kristina! Loved your pictures!

I have ever taken my pet to a vacation except for when I was a kid and we were traveling to my grandparents’ house.

Thanks Nathaly! 🙂 I took a lot of the pics with my “good” camera. I’m trying to get better at using it!
