4 Things I’m Looking Forward To!

Hey guys! Thanks for your well wishes on the blog, Snapchat, Insta, etc. I am not back to feeling 100% but I am feeling a little better.

Cecil and Adam are taking good care of me. I was even able to guilt Adam into coming home early yesterday :).

Last night once my fever broke Adam and I played a new game called Mille Bornes. It’s hard to explain, but it’s a fun two-player game. You basically try to rack up 1,000 miles on your car, but along the way the other player can stop you by forcing you to run out of gas, get a flat tire, get into an accident, etc.

There isn’t much strategy to it that I can see, but it’s a good game for when you’re sick and just need something easy to play :).

So, while I was sitting around not running last night I started thinking about the things I am excited for this year and I came up with four big ones!

1. Going on vacation.

I don’t know about you but I’m very excited that April is right around the corner. It marks the end of what Adam and I consider the worst part of the year.

We always break up each year into chunks:

January through March= The long haul. A busy time at work with very few holidays or vacation days planned (if any).

April =  Vacation month!

May – July = Another long  haul but broken up with a few days off of work thanks to national holidays.

August – October = Always FLYS by! We usually plan a couple of short trips during this time period to celebrate my birthday and Adam’s birthday.

November – December = The holiday season!

Do you break up the year into chunks too? If so I’d love to know how you split things up!

2. Meeting up at Universal with Barbs.

B and I made plans yesterday to meet up at University this May to FINALLY go see the latest Harry Potter installment at Islands of Adventure.

You might remember Adam and I went a year and a half ago, but by accident we bought tickets to the wrong park and ended up with the original Harry Potter set! I was totally okay with that because I loooooove the ride through Hogwarts castle, but I am dying to see all the new stuff!

3. Running the Disney Wine & Dine Two-Course Challenge.

I’ve finally decided that this fall I want to run the Wine & Dine Half as my main race. Not only that but I want to run the challenge which is where you run a 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday.

There are plenty of reasons why this is not a good idea:

  • November in Florida is still hot
  • Orlando is usually super humid in the a.m.
  • I shouldn’t run a 10K the day before my key race
  • The course will be crowded
  • The challenge is expensive ($375 for both races)
  • Staying on Disney property is expensive
  • I don’t like going to Disney theme parks

I have thought about all these reasons extensively over the last couple of months but I still want to do this race challenge. To be honest, I have no idea why I want to, it’s just calling to me.

Yes, it will be expensive to do the challenge but the only other option I was considering was RnR Las Vegas. While Vegas would probably have better weather, it would still cost a pretty penny to fly out there and stay for a few days.

I’m also not sure I want to fly to and from Vegas for a race. Orlando is nice because it’s different than the Fort Lauderdale races I could also easily do here, but also comfortably within driving distance.

IDK, am I crazy? I haven’t registered for the challenge yet, but I am planning to do it soon. Let me know if I’m being crazy so I can change my mind before it’s too late!

4. Entering the lottery for the London Marathon.

Speaking of races, the London Marathon is coming up soon! I keep seeing updates about it in my feed which is making me super exciting about entering the lottery later this year.

I should find out whether I got in or not right as this year’s racing season begins in the fall. I hope to use the momentum from half marathon training to launch me into a great marathon training cycle!

What are you looking forward to this year?
Have you decided on a key race yet?

I need to get on the ball with entering lotteries! There are a couple races I want to do and they are lotteries… but I never remember to enter! Big Sur, Chicago, and eventually, NYC.

I really hope you are feeling better today and 100% for the weekend!

Jan-March is the death march for me too! April-May is when I see the light at the end of the tunnel BUT it is still really busy for me due to school concerts. I have a huge one on April 20 and then a semi huge one on May 10. On may 11, I will feel like 10 million bucks!

Change your mind. Do the Disney World Marathon (or half or whatever distance) in January instead. I personally will fly down and cheer for you. Then we can ditch the mouse and go hang out at Hogwarts!

    🙂 🙂

Or I will cheer for you from Michigan for whatever race you choose.

Hey Kristina! hope you’re feeling better by now. I was actually looking at that same race at Disney this year. Let’s see how things go with my training.

Cecile is such an adorable cat!!

Oh man, I’m sorry you were feeling sick. I hope it’s getting a lot better. That SUCKS when you have a sore throat (on top of all of the other stuff!). April is a freaking crazy ass month for us around here with a trip to Boston (marathon!!!), the Glass City marathon (a week of pasta dinners planned!), another marathon for Alan, my coaching gig, soccer and track. Some nights we have 3 things going on after work. Tooooo many. But then May happens and the world is right again 🙂

I’m glad you’re feeling mostly better! This cold/flu season has been SO BAD. There are 4 different viruses going around at work and the kids are just catching them like…Pokeman?

I can’t believe you play Mille Bornes. Matt’s mom brought her ancient copy of that game from Canada, where it’s original from I guess (it’s French/Canadian) and I’ve never enjoyed it but Matt and his mom LOVE it. I’ve never, ever heard of anyone else playing it!

This is such a great post! Ok first, your husband is so sweet! Mine would never off to come home early lol. And wow, $375 for that challenge!! But I say do it!!!! It’s so exciting to have something big to work towards!! I am signed up for Space Coast Half in November and am in the lottery for the South Beach Ragnar and then considering Miami Marathon in January which sounds scary but also exciting. 🙂 Oh and also Diagonal Alley at Universal is so awesome. We have annual passes so we were just there yesterday. 🙂 You have to do Jimmy Fallon’s new ride too if you’re at all a fan of him.
