5 Monday Updates!

Happy Monday! Let’s jump right into today’s updates, shall we? :).

1. Figuring Out My Calves. On the weekends my calves barely bother me. After I do my stretches I could easily forget that I even have calves. However, on week nights they are super tight every single night.


I’m glad I’ve discovered this pattern but I’m not 100% sure what to do about it.

I get up and walk around a lot during work because I drink water all the time and go to the bathroom about 10X an hour. I wear dresses to work pretty often so I can’t really wear compression socks.

I’m thinking about bringing a little footstool to see if elevating my legs help. We’ll see if that works!

2. Treadmill Running. This weekend there was a music festival down at the beach on Saturday and Sunday so I decided to stick to the gym to avoid the crowds/parking situation.


Saturday night I didn’t get down to the gym until after 8pm, but I got in four miles on the treadmill and then a great full body lifting session.


^ Can you see little flecks of white paint all over me? Oy.

Sunday I got in nine miles on the treadmill. It was my longest treadmill run since the summer… and I hated it. I really go in phases with the treadmill. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I can’t stand it.

3. Bathroom Update. We’re moving in this coming Saturday and I cannot wait. On Saturday we finished up the master bedroom and bathroom which feels great.

Obviously there are cabinet doors… I just forgot to take a nice AFTER picture when we were at the house on Saturday. I’ll definitely take a better pic soon :).

I think the dark wood and white sink basins really give the bathroom a much more modern vibe, even if this bad in-progress photo may give the impression that this was a downgrade. (I promise it’s not!!) I just need to find some cute bathroom decorations to spruce up the area.

4. Kitchen Update. Two weekends ago we had our new fridge delivered but we weren’t able to set it up until last weekend because there was an adapter part we needed to buy first. Well it’s up and running now and Adam and I are in LOVE!


We’ve always dreamed about having a giant fridge but never could because we’ve always been renters, plus apartment kitchens are usually pretty small.

When we bought the house one of the first things we talked about buying was the biggest fridge we could afford! haha


When the Home Depot guys delivered this fridge I exclaimed “OMG it’s beautiful!” and they laughed, but honestly isn’t it beautiful?

5. Cecil Update. 

This little boy continues to be perfect. ?

Every one keeps asking if we’ve brought him to the house yet or not. We have not. This Saturday when we move in will be the first time he sees the house that we bought him! 😉


The house will have several special touches designed just for him.

For instance, we’re putting a bird feeder in a tree he can see from inside the bedroom windows so that he always has little birdies to watch. His favorite cat perch will sit right in front of the windows so that he can watch them all day.

I think he’s going to really like his new house! 🙂

    Your house is coming along great! I love the bathroom and fridge. I was so excited to get a bigger fridge when we moved into our house but its amazing how fast we filled it up!

    I’m one that likes to get the workout done first thing. The longer I wait, the longer my brain has to convince me that lying around on the couch is a better use of my time.

    Have you tried changing up the types of shoes you wear to work? I found my calves would be tight when I wore flat shoes — so now I wear shoes with a tiny heel and that helps keep me loose… just a thought.

    Geez those pesky calves. Not sure how you do those dreadmill miles, I get annoyed just reading about your miles, I can’t do it lol. The house is looking great and I think the bathroom def looks more modern. I’ve gotten runs in as late as 10pm, you workout when you have to lol.

    My SIL has that fridge and it is incredible. My dream fridge. 🙂 Weekend was pretty good–packed full of activities: had an interview to be a personal trainer at the school gym on Saturday morning, drove to Chicago in the evening for dinner with friends, then yesterday I decorated the house for Christmas (while it was snowing outside!) and then went to a wine and cheese party. I feel like I need another day to recover from the weekend. 🙂 I often do late workouts–I like getting them out of the way in the morning, but I also really like sleeping!

    Have you tried doing downward dog stretches for your calves? I found that to be the most helpful stretch for my calves, which were angry with me last spring.

    I love the big fridge!!

    When we got our fridge similar to yours, I was AMAZED at the lighting in it! It’s so incredibly fun to see all of the fun in that super bright light, like it’s some sort of show! Love yours, enjoy it 🙂
    The bathroom looks really great too. Very pretty and love the colors.
    As for your calves, I have no suggestions but that was the same thing I experienced with my glute/hamstring pain – when I was up and moving all of the time on the weekend it was no problem, but just any amount of sitting around at work really killed it. Boo on that!

    Do you wear heels to work? I rarely do because I’ve found that heels make my calves really cranky. Although I have to laugh because in reading the comments I realize someone above me just said the exact opposite. Whichever you typically wear to work – flats or heels – try doing the opposite of that for a while and see if it gets any better. Since you say the problem is only on weekday evenings, not weekends, I’m willing to be the main culprit is something workday related. Try wrapping them in a heating pad for a while, too – that really helps me with soreness.

    Wow that is a big fridge!!! You could hide a lot of bodies in that…

    SATURDAY!!!!! OMG!!! The bathroom is beautiful. I always wondered do people with double sinks reallyuse them at the same time as their partner??? The first time Paul saw me brush my teeth he noticed that I don’t move the brush.. I keep the brush still and move my head back and forth. It’s very unnerving to watch!!

    That is weird about your calves. I wish you could wear compression socks to work and just see but… it’s not like you wear them on the weekend. Hmmm what is different about the weekend? Obviously out are moving around more…

    I LOVE your bathroom. It’s so big! I feel you on the fridge thing. The downgrading everything in the kitchen was the worst part when I relocated to NC and didn’t have a house anymore 🙁

    For workouts, I’d much rather get them out of the way in the morning. Unfortunately, I’m already waking up at 5am for work so I can’t really add anything else to my morning routine. I work out early in the morning on the weekend, though. Right now I’m trying to do those Kayla Itsines workouts right after work. They are only 30 minutes so I still have plenty of time left in my evening.

    Alright, seeing that fridge makes me feel better because my boyfriend and I just bought a giant amazing fridge and it seemed excessive for the two of us. But now I don’t feel so bad because apparently it’s a thing people do! We bought our first house over the summer and had been daydreaming for months about this purchase, so we were pretty excited to see it in our kitchen finally.
