5 of the Weirdest Foods I’ve Tried

Happy Tuesday! Today I’ve got a new installment of the 10 Day Challenge!

So far as part of the challenge I have shared my nine loveseight fearsseven wants and six places. Today I’m sharing five foods I’ve tried that are kind of weird.

10-day-you-challenge

Thank you to Kristin @ Sweat Courage for starting this challenge!

1. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans. I am a runner and I am a Harry Potter fan. I have tried every flavor of Bertie Bott’s beans! My favorites are the very safe lemon and Tutti-Fruitti beans and my least favorite are the grass and vomit flavors!

2. Butterbeer. When I was last at Universal Studios I ate lunch at the Three Broomsticks and ordered a glass of butterbeer. It was disgusting! I don’t understand why Harry, Ron and Hermione are always ordering it!

3. Cat food. Yep. When I was young I noticed that my cat seemed to really LOVE his cat food so I decided to try a small piece of kibble. Let’s just say while I think butterbeer is gross there is actually nothing more disgusting than cat food. I don’t understand why cats love it!

4. Gu. Seriously, there’s this thing called Gu and it tastes like flavored goo. These people called runners eat it all the time. I don’t understand why!

April Fool's Joke from Gu.

(As a sidenote I think I would actually like the Mushroom Rush flavor. I really like mushrooms!)

5. Burgers with a fried egg on top. Okay, this is not that weird but I LOOOOOOOOVE a good burger with a fried egg on top. I’ve been craving it for a day now and I completely blame Lisa who got me thinking about it yesterday when she was talking about eating a burger after her 22-miler! After my half marathon this weekend I will definitely be partaking in this delicious food. This is one that I DO understand what all the hype is about! : )

What’s the weirdest food you’ve tried? What’s the weirdest food you’ve tried that you actually like?

Favorite flavor of Bertie Botts????

Pizza with egg on top. But I didn’t hate it.

When I was a kid I used to dip my nuggets and fries into my Wendy’s Frosty. I still stand by it ;).

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:32 am

I’m SO with you on both of those things! I love pizza with egg on top and as a kid I always dipped my fries into the frosty… although I never tried nuggets!

  2. November 4, 2014 / 8:13 am

Ah I love all the food that came from Harry Potter. Bertie Botts, chocolate frogs…they sound good. Of course I’ve never tried any lol.

Hey hey now, let’s cool it with the “GU is so gross” comments, they are vital to my long runs and I actually enjoy them :).

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:34 am

I’ve never tried the Chocolate Frogs! I think when I was at Universal I wanted to get one but couldn’t justify a super high price tag for what is essentially just a bit of chocolate I can buy for 99 cents at the grocery store 😉

I don’t get the Gu thing! Which flavors do you like? I’ve only had the Chocolate and Peanut Butter flavors. Maybe I need to expand my horizons!

      • November 5, 2014 / 9:10 am

I’ve tried a lot of different ones, power bar gel shots, cliff gel shots, gu…I don’t mind the brand. Flavor has to be strawberry or berry. I can’t do salty or lemon.

  3. November 4, 2014 / 8:35 am

Fried egg on a burger is best with a pretzel bun and arugula!! Saltine crackers with cream cheese frosting on them. I am NOT a frosting fan but like this, I am!!! They are the perfect little snack! yum!

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:35 am

Mmmmm we shouldn’t be talking about burgers this early in the day because it’s not even close to lunchtime yet! 🙂

I’m not a frosting fan either which is why I think I’m not a big fan of Gu. The chocolate flavor was the first kind I ever tried and it just tasted like a big glob of chocolate frosting to me!

  4. November 4, 2014 / 8:48 am

Hahaha why on earth would anyone make candy with vomit flavor?! That completely grossed me out xD and why did they make it look so good?! I’m pretty sure – if I didn’t know the flavors – I’d pick the vomit one if someone let me pick one, just by the looks. Ew omg haha I can’t get over this xD

I’m not sure if I’ve eaten anything weird.. Seems like they don’t make much strange foods for vegetarians. I once tried these “0 calorie” noodles though, and those were the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten! Bet those could be on my weird foods list. Felt like I was eating worms, ugh. I also can’t stand sugary drinks or beer. And Prosciutto e melone (which basically is raw ham on melon) – that’s what turned me into a vegetarian HAHA seriously!!
For some reason I think of “weird foods” as “disgusting foods” now xD

Oh and btw, have you heard anything from your doctor?

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:16 am

Thank you for asking! I called my doctor’s office this morning as soon as it opened but they said the results still have not come in! Very frustrating, but hopefully tomorrow. The receptionist said the results will definitely be here “sometime this week.”

I have never tried 0 calorie noodles but I’ve tried those weird noodles that you have to keep in water that are like 30 calories or something…. so gross! They must be related to your 0 calorie noodles because they were definitely wormlike!

  6. November 4, 2014 / 8:58 am

I have never tried cat food but now I want to! Sometimes, when we get the kitties a very fancy, fresh cup of wet food as a treat, it smells and actually LOOKS really good. But I never tried it!

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:18 am

      DON’T DO IT!!!!! 🙂

I think if I ever lost my job I could eat Cecil’s treats. We buy him these packs of freeze dried turkey that he goes NUTS over. They’re just regular old freeze dried turkey bits so I think I could eat them if I could get him to share (that part might be impossible)!

      • November 6, 2014 / 5:50 pm

I never heard of freeze dried turkey. 🙂 When I eat chicken, I sometimes pull out the middle part (that is not seasoned) and give Chrissy little pieces. He loves it. Paul gets mad, but the truth is, the straight up healthiest thing for a cat to eat would be lean protein. If we were rich, Chrissy would be eating chicken breast morning, noon, and night.

  7. November 4, 2014 / 9:16 am

The weirdest food I’ve tried…Well, my kids have made some cupcakes that were quite interesting while playing “cupcake wars”–yogurt filled, fruity mess (you had to see it to get the full effect!)
Raw oysters. OH MOST GROSS BY FAR BACON SODA (on a dare–disgusting).
I agree, GU is gross, but I have used it to help me through those last couple of miles.

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:19 am

Bacon soda?!! Noooo that sounds so gross! I can’t believe they even make that!

Raw Oysters has to be up there with the bacon soda though. I can’t bring myself to try them. I’d much rather experiment with your kids cupcakes 🙂

  8. November 4, 2014 / 9:19 am

Oh no, you didn’t really eat cat food did you?? Haha thats pretty funny but also gross:)

  9. November 4, 2014 / 9:38 am

Hope things went well yesterday 🙂

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:20 am

Thanks, Cheryl! Unfortunately still no word from my doctor. I called the office first thing this morning but they said the results still aren’t in. They should be in “sometime this week.” ugh!

  10. November 4, 2014 / 9:54 am

okay – Henri LOVES his burgers with a fried egg on top. He tried it once and ever since he always asks for his burger with an egg! I’ve tried it before and it’s good but there are so many other things to put on a burger that I usually run out of room for an egg.

And the weirdest thing that I’ve ever eaten has got to be PICKLED PIG’S LIPS…. yes – pigs LIPS!!!! It was the single most disgusting thing I have ever eaten… and was made worse by the fact that I threw it up (through my nose). TMI??? haha

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:21 am

Whaaaat that is SO gross!!!!! I can’t believe you even tried them! I can’t even think about it!! Ahh I had no idea that was even a thing!

You win for eating the grossest thing ever!

  11. November 4, 2014 / 10:21 am

Those pictures of Gu turned my stomach and I nearly gagged. Ew. David lves eggs on his burgers…I prefer to have my burgers smothered in chili or at least with a nice roasted chili pepper on it and a bunch of cheese. I cannot believe you ate cat food! Ah!

    • November 4, 2014 / 10:39 am

I love chili but I never put it on my burgers because it would taste weird mixed with the fried egg 🙂 David knows whats up!

I can’t believe I ate a piece of cat food either! It was really just like a very tiny nibble off a small piece of kibble and it was a looooonnnngggggg time ago. I definitely blame it on being young and dumb! It was one of those things you would only do as a kid!

  12. November 4, 2014 / 12:14 pm

I won’t even try those jelly beans on the off chance that I end up with the vomit one!
I don’t know if I would like butterbeer or not. GU – not my thing!
I’ve never had a burger with a fried egg on top – sounds good though!

    • November 4, 2014 / 11:41 pm

Kim! You are missing out on life by not adding a fried egg to your burger! Please try this ASAP! 🙂

Butterbeer tastes an awful lot like cream soda, which I despise!

  13. November 4, 2014 / 1:34 pm

I can’t believe you ate all of those jelly beans! Were they really gross? Did you feel sick? The boy got some as a birthday gift this year and they’ve just been sitting in the pantry since January. We’re too afraid to try them. I think we’re pretty adventurous eaters, too! My favorite totally weird thing to eat was this type of termite in Belize that tastes like wintergreen gum. Seriously, it was so bizarre.

    • November 4, 2014 / 11:43 pm

Don’t be afraid to try them! The good sounding ones taste just like normal jelly beans!

They gross ones are definitely gross. I think they taste exactly like they’re supposed to which is pretty amazing. They didn’t make me sick, but I had a glass of water sitting right next to me to wash the bad flavors away quickly!

Try alternating one bad one with one good one 🙂

  14. November 4, 2014 / 6:45 pm

Pizza with calamari on top – yummmo!! I love that your first 2 are Harry Potter related 🙂

    • November 4, 2014 / 11:44 pm

No no no, you should not ruin a perfectly good pizza by putting calamari on it! 😉

The first two HAD to be Harry Potter related! HP is my homie.

  15. November 4, 2014 / 7:53 pm

Ok…*disclaimer: the following food combination is kind of gross* but when I was pregnant with my daughter I craved Ackee and Saltfish (Jamaican dish) with rice and peas and curry chicken gravy. OR I craved liver and pineapple. Yup…and I ate both combos in the same day at least 5 times a week
Does the vomit jelly bean really taste like vomit?

    • November 4, 2014 / 11:45 pm

What what what???? Liver and pineapple?! Pregnancy does really weird things to people, haha! 🙂

The vomit jelly bean does taste eerily similar to its namesake!

  16. November 5, 2014 / 6:51 pm

HAHA, those April Foot’s GU flavors are awesome. Talk about making a runner puke. The Harry Potter Jelly Belly’s are so fun. I actually introduced my husband’s family to them last year and they were a HIT! We now bring a box with us every time we visit. I can’t stand the Rotten Egg and Vomit flavors, for obvious reasons. Rotten anything is just gross in my book.

I literally laughed out loud when you mentioned eating cat food. Seriously? I will admit that I once had a bite of a dog treat, but I was tricked into thinking it was a cookie.

  17. November 5, 2014 / 8:02 pm

Matt and I first had regular food with fried eggs on top when we were abroad. Now a burger with a fried egg it is my favorite kind of burger! And don’t even get me started on butter beer. It’s too delicious for words!
