5 Things from The Weekend

Another eventful weekend has come to a close! I really wish every weekend was a three day weekend. I’m definitely counting down the days until the Fourth of July!

1. Cecil Gave Us a Scare

Friday afternoon Cecil swallowed a twist tie and had an upset stomach for about 24 hours until he was able to pass it. Poor little guy! Once he finally stopped throwing up Saturday afternoon he conked out hard.

2. Saturday Morning 12 Miler

Saturday morning I got in my 12 mile long run early so that I could spend the rest of the day with Adam. Fort Lauderdale was a hot and sticky mess in the A.M.! It was 75 degrees and rising with 90% humidity when I hit the pavement. Yuck! I felt like I was running through a cranked up sauna.

That evening Adam and I planned to go see the new X-Men movie but ended up just watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier at home. I kind of wanted to be home in case Cecil started throwing up again, and the allure of watching a movie on the coach in my pajamas was strong!

3. My New Favorite Food

At the movie theater we would pay $25 for crappy candy, but at home I could have this delicious yogurt for free (well, paid for previously at the grocery store anyway).

Apple Cinnamon is seriously my new obsession. I don’t know why I never tried it before, but I’m now eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Does anyone else get obsessed with certain foods and eat them until they can no longer stand the sight of them? I do this all the time!

4. The 85 Year Old 24-Hour World Record Holder

On Sunday Scott Jurek posted a picture of himself running with Leo Lightner, 85 years old, who is the 24-hour world record holder for 80 year olds. WOW! Can you imagine running for 24 hours straight at that age?! So impressive!

On Friday I read an interview where Scott said he is hoping to take the 24-hour record back this October. Fingers crossed for him, as I think that race is going to be his last before he retires from running professionally.

’nuff said. Let’s go Heat!

Was it hot and sticky on your weekend run(s)?

Have you gone to see X-Men or Neighbors?

– Neighbors isn’t the kind of movie I would normally want to see, but it’s getting really good reviews!

Glad Cecil is feeling better. Sick kids/pets is never fun. Awesome 12 miler, and getting it done in those conditions is even better. 90% humidity is no joke. I prefer at home movie night as well. We usually get discount tickets when we go but we still end up paying too much and feeling sick after from all the junk food. Scott running with the 85 year old record holder is awesome. I love seeing how humble the elite runners are. Scott genuinely looks excited to be running with this man, so cool.

GO HEAT GO! Going home to our home floor. We are going up 3-1.

No heat issues this weekend, 75* during my long run although it was at 430 am lol.

It’s true! I know you feel my pain with the heat. You may escape from some of the humidity that we have over here though…? I love how humble all of the elite ultrarunners are too. They are so accessible. It’s crazy to read their blogs and see them answer questions in the comments. I love that!

  2. June 9, 2014 / 11:05 am

Poor little Cecil! I am sure you are taking good care of her. Did the vet say just wait until she threw it up? It is sticky in PA right now… rainy and sticky! My husband HATES the Heat. In fact, he made a pin that says “F&%$ Lebron” to wear to his friend’s house last night to watch the game hahaha. He would not be welcome in your home, I am sure.

      Ugh, PAUL!! Not cool man!

Yeah, the vet said it was small enough that it should pass on its own within 24 hours. If it didn’t then we would need to come in and have it scooped out. Poor little guy was SO HUNGRY he kept going to his bowl and meowing, but the vet said to stop feeding him so that he didn’t get dehydrated from throwing up.

Aw I am so glad he is better and I know you are too! Sending him snuggles 🙂

  3. June 9, 2014 / 11:11 am

I usually run early in the morning but my race this weekend started at 8:30 so it was so much hotter than normal! I am not used to the humidity of the east coast and I was drenched by the end of that race!

    • June 9, 2014 / 12:02 pm

I cannot wait to read your recap of the race!!! Breaking tape twice in two weeks PLUS just casually hanging out with Shalane afterwards… AHH!

  4. June 9, 2014 / 5:46 pm

Oh, no – poor Cecil! I hope that he is completely recovered now!!
It was warm and muddy on my weekend run:)

    • June 9, 2014 / 10:12 pm

He is fully recovered as of today 🙂

That half sounded like quite an experience for Hunter’s very first half marathon!

  5. June 9, 2014 / 9:06 pm

I am so happy to hear that Cecil is feeling better! Lola was throwing up this weekend as well. 🙁 I do not know if she ate something weird or if she just had a bug. she seems fine now but it is super scary when pets are sick.

    • June 9, 2014 / 10:13 pm

Awww so glad Lola is feeling better too! It’s terrible because they can’t tell you what’s wrong, or if they are starting to feel better/worse!

  6. June 9, 2014 / 9:16 pm

Poor Cecil! I hope he’s doing much better today!!

I’ve had to really slow down and take walk breaks this summer. The humidity is just insane! I’m sweating before I’m even a mile in! It’s crazy how much of a toll it takes on me, but I just have to remember that it’s making me stronger! Kudos on getting 12 miles in this heat! I haven’t gone over 4 yet this summer!

    • June 9, 2014 / 10:15 pm

He has perked up and is loving all the extra attention 🙂

I know what you mean about the pace and walk breaks. My long runs are about 30 seconds per mile slower than they were just a couple months ago. BUT this fall we’re going to kick butt at our marathons!!

  7. June 9, 2014 / 10:01 pm

i haven’t seen either movie, but i do really want to see x-men. and maleficent.

it was hot. and humid. and hot again…

    • June 9, 2014 / 10:14 pm

Ah yes, you have to take Little G is see Maleficient! (I think? Is that age appropriate for him? I just realized I have no clue! I would be a terrible mother!!!)
