Hey there! HAPPY FRIDAY! I am so so so so excited for this weekend. Not only am I going to my first organized 5K in over a year, but I get to run a time trial at that 5K.
My coach’s notes for Saturday:
Omg I’ll be honest I’m kind of scared because I haven’t gone for anything in so long. I can’t even remember what it’s like to race! I remember I used to ease into longer races by splitting up the mileage into chunks and then trying to negative split. For example “run miles 1-4 @ X pace” then “run miles 5-8 at X minutes 30 seconds pace” etc.
The 5K is a totally different beast though since there isn’t really enough time to ease into anything, it’s sort of a fly or die kind of thing right? But like you want to strive for a controlled, fast flight?
Honestly I want to push hard since this is a time trial so I think 1 of 2 things could happen: I totally die off within the first 1.5 miles and crawl to the finish or I come away with a time that I’m really excited about. Let’s hope it’s the second one!
