7 Things I Want

Happy Friday! So far as part of the 10 Day Challenge I have shared my nine loves and eight fears. Today I’m sharing my seven wants!

10-day-you-challenge

Thank you to Kristin @ Sweat Courage for starting this challenge!

Seven Wants:

1. World Peace.  Corny, Miss-America answer? Sure, but wouldn’t it be nice?

2. Run a 50-Miler(+). It’s no big secret that I want to run a 50-miler within the next couple of years. I’ve always said that 100-miles was out of the question for me because I really like sleep and I’m too slow to make the cut off for any 100-milers. Both of those things are incredibly true, but if you want to call this a “wish list” instead of a want list, I’d definitely add a 100-miler to it.

3. Pet Text Messaging. I would love if I could text with Cecil. How convenient/incredible would that be? He already plays games on the iPad. I feel like he’s just (big) step away…

4. Car Automatically Fills Up with Gas / Changes its Own Oil. I daydream about this scenario frequently. Like, at least once per week when my gas tank nears empty.

5. Teach Again. During grad school I was given the reigns to my own public speaking class. I really enjoyed teaching undergraduates and watching them improve their skills throughout the semester. As cheesy as it sounds, teaching that class was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Unfortunately being an adjunct professor wouldn’t pay the bills, but I’d really like to teach again someday.

On the last day of class, after students wrapped up their final speeches, I presented them with this cake. I was so proud of them, especially the ones who were incredibly scared of public speaking but made it through the class with flying colors! One student even told me that she looked to see if there was an Advanced Public Speaking course she could take the following semester! (Sadly FAU does not offer one.)

6. Run Trails. Trails are something I just don’t have near me. The idea of running dirt paths under the cover of tall trees is incredibly appealing to me. I feel extremely fortunate to live close enough that I can run at the beach whenever I want, but I’d really love to live close to some trails too!

7. Start a nonprofit. I’ve been lucky enough to own a business, but what I would really love is to start a nonprofit someday.

I’ve worked with two nonprofits in the past. One, which will remain unnamed, showed me how corrupt the world of nonprofits can be. The amount of money wasted within the organization was just incredible. The other, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, was an amazing experience.

When I started my marketing consultancy back in 2010 the Fossey Fund was my first client. I can honestly say that every single person there truly cares about the cause and they make sure every penny is used wisely. If I am lucky enough to start a nonprofit someday I can only hope to follow in the footsteps of the leadership team at the Fossey Fund.

What is one of your wants/wishes/dreams?

Share anything, even if it’s crazy! Actually, the crazier the better : )

– I mean, you saw I wrote that I’d like to do a 100-miler, right?! Ah!

Haha the cat texting made me giggle – clever! I had no idea they made iPad games for cats! I dream about the gas filling up on its own as well. While I do not wish to live in NJ, I am so jealous they have attendants pump the gas for them!

Me too! It must be so nice to not have to get out of your car!

  2. Amanda @ Slimplify Life

A 50-miler?!? That scares and impresses me all at the same time.

I want to never waste a single day of my life – choose happiness every morning and find the positive in everything.

….oh,and I also want a million dollars to show up at my doorstep during happy hour tonight. But really…

I agree with the auto gas fill-up!
    My wants
success and happiness for my kids
For the “cleaning fairy” to come–often
    for a personal chef
    To run a 50 miler
    to continue coaching
I am always so impressed by your “resume”. You have done a lot of GREAT things. I am sure you will find a way to get back into teaching in some form!
I hope you are having a great time!

Ah, a personal chef is a good one! That is something I wish for almost every single night when I’m wondering what to make for dinner!

  6. Nessa @ Ness Runs

Great wants! I agree, teaching is so profoundly fulfilling – I’m a private tutor and whilst it’s not something that I want to pursue as a career, I learn as much from my students as they learn from me!
My biggest want/aim is to run a marathon in the next few years!

Oh, that is so great that you’re a tutor! I found some parts of teaching frustrating, but the pros far outweighed the cons! The biggest cons were the excuses as to why some things weren’t ready on time or why someone had to skip a class… one student emailed me an hour before class saying he had an upset stomach and couldn’t heave his bathroom! UGH, TMI! lol

  7. The running Schlub

Great list! I don’t think 100 miler should be off the table, I think you could do it someday. Pet texting is awesome, but I think my dogs would just be asking for bones all the time lol. I didn’t know you taught, I have so much respect for that profession, truly takes a passion to teach. 100% agree with trails, nothing beats the peace that comes with trail running. I would love to start a nonprofit, I’ve worked for many and nothing is more gratifying than bettering the world and not expecting to make a bunch of money to do it. Makes you feel amazing inside.

Couldn’t agree more on the nonprofit work, it was really rewarding to know what you’re doing every day makes a difference in some small way.

You’re right on the pet texting! I’m imagining these fun conversations, but really I’m sure it would always be “i’m hungry for treats” over and over! haha

  8. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

I secretly dream of being a big-name published author, but then I’d have to actually let people read what I write…Also, I wish I were best friends with Emma Watson. She’s just fabulous!

She is amazing and seems to get more fabulous every year! I love her!

I hope you let us read what you’re in the middle of writing these days!

  9. Lou @ Running Through China

Haha, I have also expressed a wish to be able to text Puppy while we are out. You know like, ‘Hey, Deusche, what are you up to? How’s your arvo going?’ that sort of thing… 🙂
A massive, serious ‘want’ or ‘wish’ of mine is to make my mind up about an ongoing problem and to truly fix it/solve it/decide on something and then be happy ever after. A bit like your world peace want, but on a much smaller, personal (selfish?) scale. I would also like world peace though, bien sure (‘of course’, if you’re still in Paris!).

    1. Kristina @ Blog About Running

I hope you’re able to come to a conclusion on your problem soon so you can live happily ever after!

I would totally text Cecil about normal stuff too! You know, “are you sleeping AGAIN?! How can you sleep so much? Get a job!” 😀

  10. Kim

I can see you fulfilling every single thing on your list!!!
I want to retire to Hawaii! I know we will retire to a beach somewhere but Hawaii is my top choice even though it seems a bit out of range right now.

Hawaii sounds awesome!!!! Adam and I would like to retire in Thailand or somewhere like that! Definitely somewhere near a nice warm beach! Maybe we can be neighbors in Hawaii!

  11. Heather @ girlgoesrunning

Pet texting would be great!!!! Lola and I would get nothing done though lol. I really want to do an ultra!

Hahaha that’s so cute! I bet Cecil would get mad at me texting him so much and would stop responding. Such a typical guy thing! haha

You should totally do an ultra! Soon! And then write a big detailed race report! 🙂

  12. Karen

I get a kick out of watching my cats play on the IPAD. I would love it if they could text me during the day lol If you come to VA I will take you to my fav little 4 mile trail loop 🙂 I am still trying to work on the marathon distance lol maybe on day 🙂

  13. Courtney @RunningforCupcakes

I would love to run a 50-miler too! I may change my mind after this marathon though 🙂

Noooo I bet after the marathon you’ll want to sign up for an ultra right away!

Let’s sign up for the same one! 🙂

  14. David Blum, Public Speaking Trainer

    I’m still trying to work up to a 5K. (Don’t judge!) 😉

I wanted to give you a hive five and “hell yeah” for wanting to teach public speaking again. My background is in marketing and analytics but I realized the great personal satisfaction I got from being a public speaking trainer and decided to make that my life’s focus. It’s wonderful to see how students improve with just an hour or two of public speaking training!
