80 Days Until the Portland Marathon (Not That I’m Counting)

Since I went running yesterday morning before work and I won’t go running again until today after work it sort of feels like I snuck in an extra rest day!

Running before work is definitely NOT my thing.Β I don’t plan on doing it again anytime soon! I much prefer my after work runs!

Sucking it up and getting in my run early was worth itΒ though because at night I got toΒ meet up with 3/4ths of my grad school crew for a farewell dinner.

Peta, Bre and I (along with our fourth grad school BFF, Shaundi, who couldn’t make it last night) met in 2009 in ourΒ Intro to Graduate Studies class.

sf
Bre, Peta, myself and the girls : ) That silly 5-year old was a teeny baby when we met and now she’s a big sister!

I’m not sure how, but it simultaneously feels like FOREVER ago and just like yesterday that we were walking the halls at our university together.

I’m sad that Peta is leaving us to move out of state, but it’s for an exciting job opportunity that she really deserves!

Bre ran the Princess half with me back in February. I’m trying to get her to sign up for the Fort Lauderdale half this fall πŸ˜€ #PeerPressure (do it, do it, do it!!!)Β

Speaking of races, only 80 days until Portland! This weekend I’ve got my first ever 15-miler on the schedule and I’m already excited about it!

No worries Portland, I picture myself crossing the finish line during every single run : )

I’m most excited about the tree seedling, although as Amy pointed out, I may not be able to bring it on the plane. If I can, I definitely plan on planting it at my parents house (since I live in a condo).

What’s the coolest race swag you’ve gotten? Do you keep all of your shirts?Β

I love that you picture yourself at the finish! 15 miles sounds really long to me right now. You will rock it! I finally started getting rid of the race shirts that I really didn’t like. I just have some medal I like I got for, but nothing really unique as far as swag…but I will be getting a cool Princess medal! I hope they let you have the tree sapling! NW airports should have sympathetic tree huggers who will understand!

Hahahah yes I hope I get a sympathetic tree hugger TSA agent πŸ˜€

The medal is cool, but even better is the bib that will say Princess Karen on it! I love my Princess Kristina bib!

Sounds like a fun night with your friends! πŸ™‚ And oh my goodness the Portland Marathon has a bunch of goodies for their finishers!!!! What an awesome marathon!

I was 95% sure I wanted to run Portland as my first marathon and then when I saw the list of swag it really put me over!

You have officially become my personal countdown clock for the Portland Marathon. πŸ™‚ That is really interesting that you don’t like running in the morning before work. I am the complete opposite and would struggle with an evening run. I’m pretty sure you will be able to take the little tree on the plane with you. Because the marathon is so big and well known, the airlines are aware of this and will honor it for those coming in from out of town (which is a lot of people). That is just what I have been told, but you never know these days.

Awesome, I am so glad to hear that about the tree seedling. I always get selected for the pat down (because I look scary, I guess) so who knows? I will cross my fingers that they let me keep it!

  4. Megan @ Meg Go Run

That is some great swag! The best swag I ever got was from the 10th annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon- we got a LEGIT flying pig gym bag! It was an awesome bag, and I didn’t have one at the time, so it was perfect!

A gym bag!!! That is awesome and so practical!

it’s only just under 100 days til my half and I feel no where near ready ): I usually keep all my shirts – baggy volunteer tops make great PJs and technical shirts just add to my workout gear!

I kept the shirt from the 5K that I PR’d in and my two half marathon shirts, but have gotten rid of the rest. Aside from my Princess Half Marathon shirt I have yet to get one that fits me perfectly πŸ™

100 days is a long time! You will be amped and ready when the day comes!!

Wow that is a lot of race swag! I think the only cool item I was given was a finisher’s mug after the Houston marathon.
I am such a morning runner! I can never get myself motivated to go after work!

I am the exact opposite. I cannot get myself out of bed in the morning when more sleep is possible! πŸ˜€ How do you convince yourself to not hit snooze 20 times? πŸ˜‰

  7. Courtney @RunningforCupcakes

My t-shirt drawer literally will not close because I have so many! I think eventually I’m going to have blanket or quilt made out of all of them. I haven’t gotten any super cool swag from a race, but my favorite medals are obviously from my Disney races!

Making a blanket out of them is SUCH a good idea! Now I wish I had kept all of my shirts so I could do that!!!! I am going to start saving them now!

Come on, jump on the early morning run bandwagon lol. I love those early morning then following day late runs. It definitely feels like you add an extra rest day. So cool you met up with all your college friends. Cant wait for the Portland Marathon. I am scheduled for a long run this weekend too, maybe I’ll try and throw down 15 in support of your Marathon Training :).

I love friendships that are so close-knit that you can go months without seeing each other or even talking, but you pick up right where you left off!

A while back you wrote about how it would be nearly impossible to go through the craziness of grad school and not come out friends for life (or something like that) and it really resonated with me! Tough times bring people together πŸ˜€

  10. Jennifer

Wow that is an amazing list of swag!! I am very excited for you! Portland is on my travel bucket list.. would not mind a race either πŸ™‚ Voodoo donuts on your list for the trip?

  11. Jodi @ Jodi Runs & Stuff

Good luck on your 15 miler! I’ve been out of the blogger (and running) loop and I’ve been slowly catching up lately. I start training for the Pensacola Half next week and I’m honestly so ready to be back out there racking up the miles.
