A nine mile run that was cut short

Some runs are amazing and make you appreciate every single thing in life. Other runs… not so much.

Yesterday I did a slow and uncomfortable 5K. I was supposed to be doing nine miles, but my calves just would not loosen up for anything. I spent some time rolling with my stick and decided to table the nine for today.

My grimace-smile:

It was probably a good idea to only do a short run yesterday anyway since I was so excited to try my new Adrenalines out (even though they are exactly the same as my old ones).

It could have been the new shoes that caused the calf tightness, but I wouldn’t blame it on them too much. This just happens to me every once in a while.

In other news, I built a new cabinet today all by myself! This is the first time I have put together anything on my own that did not come from IKEA.

As I was hammering things Adam asked if I needed help but I said no. I had the song Miss Independent (lyrics) by Ne-Yo running through my head and was feeling “like a boss” : ).  I did end up with a lot of screws left over which is somewhat of a concern……….. is it normal for there to be 8 extras?

Provided that the whole thing doesn’t fall apart, I need to figure out how I want to actually arrange all the compartments. Obviously the way I have it now is really … unbalanced looking.

From a practical standpoint I like having three of the bins on the top row though because it makes for easy access of all the little things in there. (I’m storing a lot of my candle making supplies that I want quick access to).

Maybe if I add three more bins to the bottom row it will look balanced / okay? I’ll have to buy some more and give it a try.

Packers or Niners?

-Go pack!

Favorite song to run to right now?

-I need to update my playlist!

I hate cutting a run short! But good call. Whenever I have to cut one short it’s always due to something completely random. A few months ago I had stop at mile 3 due to a sudden SHOOTING groin pain. So strange… I never had pain in my groin while running EVER. I actually had to take it easy for 2 weeks after that. The cause is still a mystery to me…

Cutting runs short is the worst!! I’m always worried that I’m just being a wimp, but sometimes a long run is just not in the cards. There’s always tomorrow!

I had a 10 miler on my plan today but my legs hurt so much from all my squats Friday, they nearly collapsed. Going to try again tomorrow morning. I don’t want my legs to buckle on the run!

I have that cabinet! We originally put a bin in each corner and one in the center, but now I have three along the top and the last in the bottom middle. Honestly, I might just buy more bins so every slot can have one. Then it’ll look balanced!

That’s a good idea! I think I am going to try the three pins along the top and bottom with one in the middle and see how it goes! I just don’t want the final decision to look like a bad tic tac toe board 🙂

Running after squatting is always so hard for me. My running coach had me cut out heavy squats from my schedule while I’m training for a race… which means I probably won’t get to really work on my heavy lifts for a while. I’m hoping to get back to it after the marathon.

I have nothing against the packers, except I am still bitter they beat us (Steelers) in the Super Bowl a few years ago. But I really do not like the coach of the 49ers, so go Packers! I expect the Super Bowl to be the Seahawks + Broncos this year.

This was supposed to be my first week of marathon training for a May race, but I have been knocked out sick, so I am just putting it on hold. One training run cut short won’t hurt ya!

Agreeed on your Superbowl picks although I think it’s possible that the Pats could sneak in over the Broncos!

I’ve had days where it feels like my legs weigh hundreds of pounds and the tight calf thing and I guess it’s just not meant to be on those days. Usually a short workout and lots of stretching helps and then I can kick butt the next time out! Hopefully your next work out will feel better. I love the cabinet!

Could not agree more! I did lots of stretching and rolling and my nine went perfectly the next day! 😉
