A Non-Running Post (Gasp)

This post has NOTHING to do with running and I’m somewhat okay with that : ) Last night I took my first complete rest day in a week and it felt gooood. I did spend some time with the roller and that also felt gooood in theย hurt so good kind of way. Know what I mean?

Since I don’t have any running related news, I thought I’d share a little project I worked on this weekend.

As some of you know, I am trying to get better at using my new DSLR camera — and there’s no better way to learn than the hands-on way! ย So, this weekend I worked on a little DIY project and photographed it. The project is a super simple one: sugar body scrub.


I took around 80 pictures and ended up with about 4 that I liked. I did notice that the shots seemed to get better towards the end of the shoot, so maybe I just need to shoot a lot of pics to get into a groove!

Making the body scrub is super simple. All you need is some granulated sugar, coconut oil and scented oil. You just mix the ingredients together and voila!



I’m planning to do a few more DIY projects like this so I can keep improving my product photography!

    I haven’t done any DIY projects in forever! Perhaps it’s the winter hibernation thing…I have helped clean up from several of the dreaded school projects of late that involve jello and pineapple, melting crayons with a hair dryer and numerous playdates with “cupcake wars”…That’s probably why.

      Haha it sounds like you’ve been very busy with your own little projects! I hope cleaning up after cupcake wars came with the reward of eating a cupcake ๐Ÿ™‚

    Awesome Pics And Great Job With The DIY Project. I Try To Do All My Projects DIY since I Can’t Fathom Paying Someone To Do It Lol. Last Couple Were Pruning A Huge Tree I Our Yard And Putting Sun Screens On All Our Windows.

    Try To Take One Rest Day A Week But Records Show I Take More Than That Lol.

      Haha, it did run across my mind that jars of body scrub are sold for $20+ and I made an abundance of it for pennies!

      Sounds like your DIY projects are more cross training than anything! Yard work is tough!

    Oh, the scrub and photos look so nice!!! I love using coconut oil as a moisturizer and stuff. I’ll bet that feels so good!

      I had actually never used coconut oil before, but am now a convert! It’s awesome!

    I am so not crafty! The only crafty thing I am pretty good at is wrapping presents. Before my surgery, I took one complete rest day a week and one other lower body resting day. Right now, I don’t have any complete rest days but I have 3 upper body rest days and 3-4 lower body rest days.

      I am so bad at wrapping presents … so so bad. I put everything I possibly can into bags with a little bit of tissue paper and call it a day! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Great photos!

    I take between 1-2 rest days, usually one, but two sometimes happens. I try to do some strength training on 2-3 days a week too. But always have one full rest day (usually Sunday).

      Friday is usually my full rest day, which is perfect since Adam and I usually make Friday date night!

    Nice photos! I’m the worst at DIY projects…I get ideas for things all the time, but then never actually do it, haha. As far as rest days, I tend to take 2 per week…more if I’ve run a race and still feel tired/sore. I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes an extra day of rest provides FAR more benefit than pushing myself through another workout!

    I am not a DIY gal. Your scrub looks great! Although I wasn’t a runner when I was younger I did lots of walking, hiking, step 3 aerobic classes, weight lifting, etc…and took very few rest days for 20 yrs. and then the pains started so after many injections, and months of therapy I have learned it’s really important to rest. My goal is four work outs a week and some times a 5th, but rarely more than that! I do confess some days I will work out 2.5 hrs lol
