A Quick Marathon Training Update
You know that blog post I published yesterday saying I was on a plane back to Fort Lauderdale from Vegas? That was a lie.
I ended up contending with 2 delayed flights and 1 cancelled flight before finally get rebooked on a redeye that brought me home at 10AM this morning. FUN FUN FUN!
I still haven’t gone through most of my pictures from the trip (and honestly, right now I don’t even want to THINK about Vegas), so I thought I’d post a quick update on marathon training instead of a vacation recap.
Week 1 of Marathon Training
Week one started off great:
- Got in a solid speedwork night even in “feels like 96*” temps
- Finished my first ever 14 mile run!!!
- Overall weekly pace was faster than it’s been since early spring when the weather was cooler – this is giving me confidence for a decent time this fall!
The only negative was that I missed two of my runs while I was in Vegas.
I purposely scheduled my long run before I left for vacation knowing that missing runs would be a possibility with our packed schedule.
I only missed two short runs though, so I’m not overly worried. I got in the most important ones before I left plus we did a ton of walking which has to count for something!
Week 2 of Marathon Training
I’m currently in week 2!
This week got off to a bad start considering I spent literally ALL DAY yesterday at the airport with 0 miles run (and very little activity in general).
I’m home now though and back on track.
I’m feeling a bit sleep deprived after my redeye flight, but I fully intend to get in an easy run tonight before crashing.
Do you worry when you miss easy/short runs or only when you miss the big ones (speed runs and long runs)?
Can you recommend an airline that never has delayed/cancelled flights? : )
