A Weekend Filled with Miles & Smiles!

I’m so sad that the weekend has come to an end because it was a really great one for me!

I ran 5 miles at the beach on Saturday morning in the most beautiful weather and listened to episode one on the Serial podcast.

The podcast is so addicting! By the end of the day I had listened to episodes 2 and 3!

On Sunday morning I woke up super early to get in my long run (11 miles) and couldn’t wait to start listening to more. If you were a fan of the Twin Peaks tv show or you like murder mysteries in general, this podcast is for you!

I ended up listening to FOUR episodes during that run! It seriously made the miles FLY BY!

After my run I had to really kick the day into high gear because Adam and I were heading over to the greyhound rescue for their holiday party and open house!

We got to meet lots of adorable greyhounds, but really we were there just to see one: Boy.

Such a cutie! He’s super calm and very friendly!

This handsome guy is called Boy because his official name when he was racing was My Boy Myth. He’s the one that stole our hearts the first time we visited the rescue a few weeks ago.

Boy ran his last race in January of this year. We believe he was retired due to injury because he has a missing toenail on one paw.

Cut Adam out because Boy is the star of the show 😉

Prior to Boy’s injury he was racing well and was a 2X champion and had come in second and third place a couple of times as well. Not that any of that matters though. Adam and I are anti-racing for dogs! Although I do hope Boy will want to enter a doggie 5K or two with me 🙂 . We won’t be racing though as I don’t think I could keep up with his 40mph pace!

He was super excited to show us every different part of the yard!

Adam and I got to spend about an hour and a half walking Boy and playing with him.

I tried to tell him soon his new name will be Duke and that we’re going to buy him all the best toys in the world but I think he was just happy having his ears scratched.

I really really really hope that soon his new name will be Duke (the name Adam picked out for him). We’re nervous that someone else could adopt him while we’re waiting to hear back about our appeal.

The very kind woman who runs the rescue said she would keep him “on hold” for us for a few weeks but after that … well, he deserves to go to a good home as soon as possible.

We understand that although it’s heartbreaking to think about because we can tell he’s such a good dog!

We’ve got our fingers and toes crossed that the appeal goes through FAST. We would love to have Boy (soon to be Duke) home for the holidays to complete our little family of four :).

How was your weekend? Finishing buying / wrapping your gifts?

That sounds great, and your beach runs look gorgeous! I am just about done with holiday stuff, just waiting for a few more packages and then have to wrap those up. Hoping they come in time for the holidays!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:18 pm

You should blog about your gift wrapping to inspire me alongside your running updates because I need it. I haven’t even started wrapping yet! I just have a pile of gifts sitting on the floor in the bedroom!

Fingers crossed that your gifts get here in time… I’m sure they will since we still have over a week to go!

  2. December 15, 2014 / 5:58 am

Ahhh fingers crossed y’all get to bring Duke home!!

Have bought 0 presents. Killing it over here. BUT I also did listen to Serial for the first time during my long run and it was AMAZING.

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:19 pm

Listening to Serial is way more important than buying Christmas gifts. I support this!

I am a little bit embarrassed to say I just finished episode 11 of Serial which means I’ve listened to the entire series in just over 48 hours. I may need to get a life!

  3. December 15, 2014 / 7:30 am

Your pictures are beautiful!! The top one is my favorite of this week week (who I am kidding.. of the day.. b/c I know you will have another good pic tomorrow lol). I cross my fingers that you will get to bring home Boy/Duke!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:20 pm

Thank you!!!! I am relying on my iPhone 5 which is basically falling apart to take the pics, sometimes it still puts out a good snap or two!

I really appreciate the support on Duke! We MIGHT just be hearing back this week!

  4. December 15, 2014 / 8:20 am

    those pictures are amazing.

I really hope the appeal works out and you get to bring him home soon!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:21 pm

You and me both! I’m sweating it out over here since I know another couple was trying to look at him yesterday! Luckily the woman who owns the rescue said he was already being adopted by ME but I know the competition is out there!

  5. December 15, 2014 / 9:19 am

Hooray! Boy (Duke) is so cute, and I have my fingers crossed for you and Adam. Hopefully you know very soon.

Also, I’m glad you like Serial so much! I think I’m going to spend some time listening to it over our 8-hour drive to Raleigh for Christmas so I can get Zach on board with it too. (I’m only on episode 3, so I have a lot to listen to still!) Beautiful views on your morning runs this weekend, and it sounds like they went really well overall.

I just mentioned this on Jenny’s blog but ACK, I am so behind on Christmas. I haven’t even gone shopping yet 😐

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:22 pm

That’s such a great idea to listen during the car ride. I really wish I had gotten Adam to listen with me because I know he would like it, but it’s such a perfect thing to listen to while running! (And also apparently a great thing to listen to at work since I did that today, oops!)

  6. December 15, 2014 / 9:22 am

I’m so glad you’re into Serial now! It’s so fascinating!

Best of luck with your appeal. It’s heartbreaking to fall in love with a dog or cat and then not have it work out. Fingers crossed for you!

Ugh…gift wrapping and present-shopping….you HAD to bring that up….lol. I miss being a kid, when all you did was GET the presents and didn’t have to go through all the stress of shopping and wrapping and trying not to get it all done at the last minute

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:24 pm

Oh man, I miss those kid days too! All you had to do was UNWRAP the gifts!

Serial is truly addictive. I keep having to remind myself it’s a real story and Adnan is a real person actually in prison still trying to appeal the verdict. I have finally made it through ALL of the episodes and I still have no idea if I hope he gets out or not. He sounds and seems like a genuinely nice guy, but he could totally be a psychopath.

  7. December 15, 2014 / 9:34 am

You beach pictures are awesome 🙂 Great job on the miles. I hope you get a good decision soon about Duke. He sure is mighty cute! Cecil will probably have only “child” anxiety for awhile lol Every time we add a new pet the dynamic would really change in my house for awhile. I haven’t even started Christmas shopping…

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:26 pm

Cecil’s reaction to Duke is the only thing I am truly nervous about. I think he’ll be fine because he is a very confident cat and Duke seems very submissive and calm (another dog growled at him this weekend and Duke didn’t even flinch). I really want them to love each other and sleep together etc. but I’ll take it as long as they seem to like each other *enough*.

  8. December 15, 2014 / 11:35 am

I bet running along the beach and seeing those views NEVER gets old. I am looking out my window right now and all I see is snow – which is good I guess for the holidays.

That is so great that you and Adam found the one. I hope that all goes well and that you guys get to take Duke home with you!!

I am almost done with all of my Christmas shopping. Heading out again today to pick up a few last minute items. I’ll be wrapping up a storm this afternoon! ☺

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:27 pm

It really NEVER gets old, every single weekend I’m amazed!

Way to go on the shopping and wrapping! I’m 80% done with shopping (all the major gifts are out of the way), but I haven’t even started wrapping yet!

  9. December 15, 2014 / 12:15 pm

I hope you win your appeal! Duke would be so lucky to go to you guys. 🙂

I didn’t start serial yet but it’s on my mp3 player. I am waiting for just the right moment…

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:28 pm

You must start it ASAP! I just know it’s something you will really like!

Did you ever watch the show Twin Peaks? It reminds me A LOT of that show which I really liked (even if it scared me some).

  10. December 15, 2014 / 12:20 pm

Oh my goodness, all of those dogs are too cute 🙂 I really hope that you can take that sweet boy home! I still don’t have my Christmas shopping done yet, but I’m hoping to wrap it up Thursday 🙂

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:30 pm

Thanks, Dana! There were so many cute greyhounds at the rescue on Sunday, but the cutest was definitely Duke. He was so sweet and seemed to really enjoy being with us this time (last time we saw him he was a bit apprehensive)!

I need to order a few last minute things, too. I’ve got all the major gifts out of the way so I’m not sweating it!

  11. December 15, 2014 / 12:32 pm

Love the sunrise/sunset pictures! I hope that Duke comes home to his new family very soon – fingers crossed for y’all!!!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:30 pm

Thank you, Kim! I will need all of your fingers crossed … I think we are going to find out this week!!!

  12. December 15, 2014 / 12:44 pm

I hope the appeal is decided in your favor soon! He is a handsome boy! I have a lot of shopping to do. I plan on going later this week and knocking it out in one day. I have been up to my ears in music…
I hope to start that podcast in the new year–thanks for the recommendation!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:32 pm

I think you’ll really like it, Cheryl. It’s totally captivating! If you get stuck running any treadmill miles in Jan. I think you will really appreciate having the podcast to listen to!

  13. December 15, 2014 / 2:46 pm

I really hope your appeal go through super fast!! He looks like a lovely dog!! I love having dogs and don’t foresee me ever NOT having a dog or two. They are such great companions!!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:33 pm

Thank you, Staci! That’s awesome that you have dogs. I’ve never had one before, but I’m excited to expand the family! Plus Adam has really been wanting a dog for a while!

  14. December 15, 2014 / 4:18 pm

I think you win the “best running route” award. Those views are incredible! Good luck with the appeal! I hope you get to bring Duke home very soon.

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:35 pm

Thank you, Lizzy! I think it’s the best, too. I just wish it was a tiny bit longer. On some of my long-er long runs I have to loop it because it’s really “only” about five miles out and five miles back (for a total of 10).

  15. December 15, 2014 / 5:06 pm

Gorgeous views! I always zone out on a run so I don’t know if I would be able to listen to a podcast while I run or not. It’s a great idea though! I really really hope that appeal goes through for you, Duke is adorable!

    • December 15, 2014 / 5:36 pm

You know, I was TOTALLY worried about that too since I like to zone out on my runs (especially my long runs), but this podcast is so captivating I never lost track and the miles and time just flew by!

  16. December 15, 2014 / 8:01 pm

Awe. Soon to be Duke looks awesome.!! I hope it works out for you guys.

My weekend was good 🙂 watched the grinch with my little family and overall just good and chill.

    • December 15, 2014 / 10:07 pm

That’s awesome! The Grinch is such a classic!

Thanks! I am feeling good about Duke coming home. I feel like Christmas miracles happen all the time! haha

  17. December 15, 2014 / 9:15 pm

WOW. That’s the view you have when you run? Absolutely gorgeous!! I would want to do ultras too if I had that view… I’m going to Florida this week, so maybe I’ll get to do my very own beach run 🙂

    • December 15, 2014 / 10:10 pm

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

We are experiencing amazing weather right now down here in South Florida! If you’re coming down here you’ll HAVE to do a beach run! You can’t beat the view! 🙂

  18. December 15, 2014 / 10:56 pm

Those beach pictures are gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!! This past weekend had perfect running weather! It was just as nice on Sunday down by Hollywood beach 🙂
Good luck with the appeal I hope it works out!
