A Winning Weekend in Miami

After a hectic week last week, I had a REALLY great weekend! It was filled with all of my favorite things: Adam, Cecil, running, watching sports and lounging!

On Saturday mornings Adam plays racquetball while Cecil and I sleep in.

I always feel a little guilty that I’m still in bed while Adam’s getting ready to go do something productive, but I purposely switched my long runs to Sundays last year so I could sleep in … and I love it. The guilt only lasts as long as it takes for me to hear the front door close, and then I’m back to sleep!

I finally got up around 9:30, made some coffee + eggs and got ready for my first hill repeat workout on the treadmill!

After that I took a minute to mentally prepare myself for Phase One of my “Women Shouldn’t Have to Ask Men to Pick Up Heavy Things” upper body workout: the dreaded assisted pull ups.

I used to save pull-ups for last because I dislike doing them so much, but because they are an area of weakness for me, I’ve bumped them up to exercise #1 in my upper body strength routine so I can do them when I’m feeling fresh.

Someday I won’t need the assist… someday.

After a solid workout it was time to get ready for the Kings vs. Heat game! Adam and I haven’t been to a Heat game all season, which is very unlike us, so I was really excited!

Unfortunately A LOT of our guys are nursing injuries right now, but D-Wade and our bench played awesome!

I was hoping to see our new guy Goran Dragic play, but he was out with a bruised back. That’s such a shame. He’s too cute good of a player to sit on the bench with an injury.

The game was AWESOME! The Heat came back from a 16-point deficit and WON IN OVERTIME! It was the first time I’ve seen an OT game in person and it was really fun. My voice was all scratchy afterwards from cheering so much!

I took this pic ^ after the game when we were walking back to the car. I think it looks like a water color painting. Ohhh, so artsty! I’m basically a professional photographer 😉 .

^ Downtown Miami all lit up and looking gorgeous.

We didn’t get home from the game until around midnight, which is pretty late for us. Coupled with the time change, when my alarm went off on Sunday morning I was just like, oh noooooooo.

I got in my run though and then spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch watching Food Network and stretching my hip while Cecil destroyed my blinds.

He does what he wants and gets away with it because he’s so cute!

I love that baby cat.

As a reminder, TOMORROW is the last day to sign up for the virtual 5K/10K benefiting PAWS Chicago.

The final day to submit your race time is March 20th. I’ve already received a few race times and will post an update towards the end of this week.

Have a great Monday!

Most exciting part of your weekend? Reading your weekend stories will help me forget that it’s Monday! haha

I don’t think I will ever be able to do an unassisted pull up, but those machines scare me! At one point when I was working with a trainer I knew how to use it but now its been years. Glad you had a good weekend…have a great week!

I like using it when no one else is around to watch. Climbing up on the machine is definitely a bit awkward! haha

Wow… pull ups are so hard! I don’t think I could do more than one, assisted or not. I always get so intimidated at gyms, and I really need to get over that.

The Heat are seriously a mess this season with all of the injuries. I got my mom tickets for Christmas, and the week that she was supposed to go, D-Wade got hurt. He was on the bench the whole time. They have a great team, but they can’t be consistent with all of the injuries that they have had.

I know, this year has been terrible for injuries 🙁 I hope we at least make the playoffs even if we lose in the first round. Ack, that’s so hard to think about. The last four years definitely spoiled us!

Riley will take care of us and I know we’re going to be great next year!

Good for you for still getting your run in after a late night and the time change. I had to be at work at 7 that morning and it was rough! Thanks for reminding me to get my virtual run in!

Ouch, being up so early after the time change for work had to stink!

Can’t wait to hear how your virtual run goes 😉

I have to get in my virtual race/run and submit it. We are supposed to have nice weather, so I am excited to be able to do it outside.
Sometimes I think the reason I like going to sports events is so that I can yell–such a stress release!

Hahah yes, I especially love yelling at the other team. I get a little bit too into it sometimes!

Have fun during your virtual race! Looking forward to seeing pics!

Thanks! It reminded me of Dolphins colors… and made me miss football a little bit! haha

Woo woo! Don’t be guilty about your sleep-in… my naps are the best part of my weekend! Good hard workout, come home to eat & shower, then nap (hopefully the cat joins me 🙂 )

Hahah I love that routine. That perfectly describes my Sunday afternoons 🙂

In theory I’d like to be able to do a real unassisted pull-up one day. In practice I’ve done absolutely nothing to work toward that goal. One day…

I didn’t even stay up late Saturday but the time change sort of threw me off yesterday. I woke up for my long run and couldn’t figure out for a moment why it was still dark. Ugh.

Sounds like you had a good weekend!

I know what you mean, I woke up this morning for work and thought I had set my alarm wrong. How could it still be dark out?! Such a sad moment when I remembered about the time change and realized it really was time to get up out of bed 🙁 haha

  8. Kim

Glad that you had a good weekend – you needed that after your busy week!!
The best part of my weekend was the weather – we got over 70!!!

WOW that’s so warm for you guys! I know you enjoyed every minute of the weather!

  9. Hanna

Glad you had such an awesome weekend! You deserve it!

I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one who sleeps in! It seems like everyone I know gets up early on days off because they can’t sleep in and it makes me feel so lazy.

I KNOW! I feel like part of being an adult means you have to wake up before 8am every single day of the week. I think a benefit of not having kids is being able to skip that step of adult hood 🙂

  10. Cocomama

I love the assisted pull up machine because I almost (almost) feel like I’m actually doing a real pull-up. One day I’ll do a real pull up all by myself. Just one… 🙂

Haha YES, I almost feel like I’m doing a real one too. I want to really, really do a real one by the end of this year! Just one!

omg I have to do the 10k soon! Thank you for the reminder.

Cecil has a pretty sweet cat condo!

I do asst. pull ups first too because I need ALL my energy!

Glad your weekend was awesome. 🙂

I don’t know why I would save them for last, such a dumb decision. I feel so much better now doing them first!

Cecil’s cat condo is lonely now that he no longer wants to lay in it and instead prefers the window sill!

  13. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola

That is awesome that you got to go to a Heat game! We have pro basketball here but our team is, um, not the best so I’ve never been to a game!

Awww the bobcats aren’t that bad! You could have kept Josh McRoberts though! ugh. Can’t believe he’s going to be out all season!

  14. Jennifer

Haha I saw the EXACT same thing when I have to use the assist pull up machine (but then I kind of feel awesome when I am able to pull up haha). Gorgeous pics as always.
