I’m back from the cruise and can report that Adam and I had a nice, relaxing time but still got a workout in every day!
There was only one day where we technically didn’t workout, but that day we walked two miles all around Cozumel so I think we can count that as a light workout!
I was really excited to check out the jogging track on Allure. I had heard that one mile required 6 trips around the ship which seemed a little odd to me since the ship is huge. Turns out it only takes 2.5 laps for a mile – thank goodness I double checked that!
The track goes all around deck five and provides a great view of the water and land if the boat is docked. The first day I went running on the track we were docked in Falmouth, Jamaica and while it was hotter than heck the view was awesome!
There are a lot of cute little encouraging signs around the track like, “Keep Your Pace,” “Tonight’s dessert can be guilt free!” and “The finish line’s just past the bend!” Of course when you see that sign several times in a row the encouragement loses it’s meaning a little bit 🙂
One funny thing I noticed is that hot and humid can feel so different depending on where you are. The south Florida weather is often very hot and hitting 100% humidity isn’t uncommon; however, the weather in Jamaica laid me out flat and I was running under the shade of the ship!
Aside from running and other workouts, Adam and I ate a lot (too much), napped whenever we felt like it, read some good books (I re-read “Eat and Run” by Scott Jurek for inspiration), watched the Heat kick butt in Game 7 of the East Conference Finals and relaxed in the sun.
Tonight I hit the gym and had a nice little weightlifting workout:
- Deadlift 190lbs x 3
- Bent over rows 40lbs x 5 (three sets)
- Pulldowns 80lbs x 5 (three sets)
- Shoulder workout
And tomorrow … I run and catch up on all of my favorite running blogs!
