NO running yesterday.
I usually do a little two mile jog the day after a long run, but my legs really just wanted to be propped up on the couch because I ran 12 miles Saturday and then walked around Universal Studios until 1am.
In the last 48 hours I wonder how many times Adam has heard me say “…. because I ran 12 miles.” The number is probably pretty high : ).
Saturday after I got back from my (12 mile) run I showered and then we were off to Orlando to go to Halloween Horror Nights for Adam’s bday.
I am very easily scared and though I’ve been to HHN two times before (2006, 2007) I had previously vowed to never go again because it puts me at high risk for a heart attack. Somehow I ended up going again this year!!
Adam was a gentleman and only made me go in two scary houses. And then we went on the Men In Black ride (one of our favorites)!
Of course I had to take this picture:
Adam scored 180,000 points on the MIB ride and I scored… 14,000 points. Oh well. I guess I am not cut out to save the universe.
After we got home yesterday and did our grocery shopping, I rested my legs while watching football. Sometimes it is really hard to be a Miami Dolphins fan. I sure hope Tannehill stops getting sacked sometime soon. Fingers crossed!
Have you ever been to Halloween Horror Nights or other haunted house places?
Do you usually do a light run after your long runs?
I just found your blog yesterday, and I swear I’ve already read through half of it haha. That’s really impressive that you built up to 12 miles so fast! I’ve been running consistently for 2-3 months and I’m trying to improve my distance, so your posts are really inspiring 🙂 I’ve never been to HHN, but it sounds like a lot of fun! I used to go the Fear Fest at the theme park by me every year, but it’s been a few years since I’ve been. I normally take a day off after a long run, but I think a short run the day after might help with recovery. 🙂

Hi Nicole!!! Thank you so much for commenting and letting me know you like the blog : ) Running for 2-3 months is great! How many miles are you running now?
At the beginning my running coach used to give me the day after a long run off, but I think when your long run distance hits a certain point it helps to do a short run the next day. I think I started doing a 2 mile run after my long runs when I hit 6 or 7 miles.
I like using “…because I ran X miles” to justify good food and naps!
I’ve found extra rest days are usually super helpful. If my body seems to want them, who am I to argue?

My nap yesterday was outrageous. I’m not sure I should even call it a nap. I should probably just call it going to bed at 4pm.
I really like light runs or easy hikes after long runs. My legs really feel so much better; I just have to consciously make myself not run them too fast. I love haunted houses, but have not had the chance to get to one this year 🙁 Too busy with traveling, I guess.

I would take traveling, running a marathon and starting a cool new job over haunted houses any day! : )
