Birthday Treats + 5 Minute Run
Hey there! I hope you had a great weekend.
On Friday after work Adam met me at my office in Miami, roses in hand, ready to take me out to birthday dinner. He used to buy me flowers all the time, but hasn’t done it in a while so it was a really nice surprise :).
After dinner we came home, got on the couch with Cecil and watched two episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. That probably sounds super boring to some of you, but that’s totally our kind of night!
Saturday morning Adam’s mom flew into town for a week, so I headed out to run some errands while they caught up together.
I decided to treat myself to a gel manicure to see what all the hype is about. Gels are supposed to last a minimum of two weeks. The salon I went to guaranteed I wouldn’t see a single chip for at least seven days.
The gels cost $35 and then I tipped 20%, so my total was $42. Normally I would not complain about this price, but I really wish the manicurist would have told me the color I picked out was going to show up TOTALLY sheer/clear.
Aside from my nails being a little shiny, I don’t really see any difference compared to my natural nails.
Based on the little nail sample I looked at, I thought I was going to walk out with light, pretty, baby pink nails like this (as modeled by Estee Lalonde):
You live and your learn. Next time I will pick a RED or something with a lot of pigment so that I feel like I am getting my money’s worth, haha!
After getting my nails done I decided it was time to finally chop my hair and go a little bit lighter. I ended up shorter than I expected but I don’t think it looks bad. Plus my hair grows fast so I know it’ll fix itself in just a couple of weeks.
I want to do something really different next time, I’m just not sure what.
After getting pampered all day, and then catching up with Adam’s mom in the evening, I was glad to get into my pajamas and watch some YouTube before bed.
Cecil was ready to call it a night before me, but he still wanted to hang out :). Sometimes he’s so cute I can’t believe he’s real.
On Sunday we didn’t do much. I did get out for a very short five minute run followed by a 60 minute walk. My calves felt totally blown up after five minutes running @ 13:30 pace.
After I stopped running I took a little break to let my calves calm down some and then I started my walk. Even after the break and easy walk, my calves still felt SUPER tight and tingly for about 15 minutes.
For the first time ever I can say that this is good news. When I go for the compartment syndrome test on Wednesday they will have me run until the symptoms present themselves. I have to run long enough that my calves REALLY hurt so that the symptoms stay present after I stop running and all the way through the test.
Based on how I felt yesterday after just five minutes of running I feel like this won’t be a problem. If I run for 10 minutes those symptoms will definitely stick around long enough to test both legs.
I’m looking forward to the test and finally feeling like I am taking steps towards getting back to running full force again! More on that later this week I hope!
