Blog Update + First Workout!

Hey guys! This is going to be a short post because I am not even sure it’s going to show up.

Lately my blog has been loading really slowly, and sometimes new posts won’t show up for a percentage of readers unless they refresh their browser 2-3X. I upgraded my hosting in the middle of the night, which is why I’m not sure if this post will go live or not. I usually schedule new posts to go up around 4:30am my time, which is when the transition will just be wrapping up.

I hope you are able to see this :).

Last night I got in my first strength training workout in our new home gym!

It is actually a miracle that I was able to lift my arms to take this picture at the end of my workout. I ended up doing this shoulders and arms workout plus I added on a few lifts such as chest press and bicep curls.

The steering wheel move leaves your shoulders/arms feeling like jello! I used the 10lb plate to do 3 x 15, and Adam used the 40lb plate “because I’m going light today.” #ShowOff

Next time I won’t use the 10lb plate that’s for sure. I hate that Adam can do 40lbs and I only did 10. I won’t let that happen again! (I don’t know why I get so competitive with him and no one else in my life!)

Arrghhhhh… ANYWAY!

Adam and I are still waiting for our power cage to get here but we have everything else that we need to get in a good workout!

We’re building a nice little collection.

IMG_1487

I need to get some 30lb dumbbells, but I want to see if I can find them at a used equipment place like Adam found some of the heavier plates we got (aka those rusty ones above).

He’s really enjoying having his own gym!

IMG_1480

Don’t worry, I don’t think it’s possible for those weights to land on his toes unless something goes drastically wrong.

Also don’t worry because I will add motivational quotes to the wall soon too :).

Do you listen to music to pump yourself up when lifting?
Can you see this post? 😀 (but i am kind of serious due to the hosting thing)

    I can see it….I can see it….lol

The home gym is looking awesome. I don’t engage in as much lifting as you guys but I’m a bit jealous at the setup. I do listen to music when I’m lifting. It drowns out all the surrounding distractions and let’s me focus on the workout.

Thanks Richard! I’m glad you can see it because I wasn’t able to see it at first, argh!

It’s so funny because I love listening to music when I run but I don’t like to listen to music when I lift. I prefer to watch whatever is on TV … it literally could be anything. I just like to look at a TV screen in between sets lol!

Just found your blog and am happy to be following along! I have to have music to work out – I just can’t get into things without it. That is an awesome gym!

Thanks Savannah! 🙂 We are working hard on the home gym! I know it’s going to save us so much money in the long run since neither of us will have to get a gym membership!

  3. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures

I can see it… but there’s no pictures. (haha, just kidding!) Yah on the home gym! Our basement finishing project is full underway now with an electrician coming this weekend. Big questions are being asked and answered about where our workout equipment will be going. That’s how I know it’s getting real!! Alan was dragging our treadmill and weight machine around to find the perfect layout. He was REALLY sore last night after that. 🙂

That’s so exciting that the electrician is coming! That means you’re really almost done!! Hahah that’s so funny! We had to drag the power cage around to find the perfect spot too 🙂

Is that a separate room in your house? That is so cool! I love the colors in that room!

I didn’t notice he was barefoot until you said it.. . and now all I can think of is “he is going to crush his toes!”

      Thanks Ana! It’s a bedroom that we’ve converted into a gym 🙂

  6. Nathaly @NathyCure

I can see this post and haven’t had any issues loading the past few ones.

Yay for the new gym:) Is coming up great. I do listen to music while doing any kind of exercise. Not only because I need to pump myself up, but because I could spend my life listening to music.

    1. Kristina

      Thanks Nathaly!

Hahah I hear ya! I’m really weird in that when I’m lifting I like to watch TV in between sets instead of listening to music which I love to do when I run. I can’t wait until we get a TV up in the gym!

  7. Heather [is probably running]

I saw this post this morning. I haven’t noticed any issues with not seeing your posts, but sometimes I’ll check back to see if you responding to a comment…and my original comment has disappeared.

    1. Kristina

Thanks Heather! That happens to me too, where comments appear, disappear and then reappear later. I’m told it’s a server side caching issue. I’ve upgraded my hosting account to a version that allows me to flush the cache myself so I am hoping that will help. I am not super optimistic though because I had an issue this morning with comments not showing up for a little while :/. I may need to move to a different host altogether.

  8. Hanna @ minimal marathoner

Glad it showed up! For a while there has been a weird disconnect between your website and Bloglovin. Like the new post comes up in by BL feed but if I open up a new tab and go to your site manually, I can’t see it? And like Heather said I’ve posted comments and not been able to see them until a day or two later once you respond to all the comments.

I can see this but it showed up on bloglovin later (usually I see it around 5am, but it wasn’t up the last time I checked at like 7am). Not sure if it was directly on your site earlier. Glad you are enjoying your home gym so far! Looks like you guys are all set!

That’s so frustrating! I’m sorry about that. My host tells me that it’s a server side caching issue. I’ve upgraded to a new level of hosting with them so I hope that will fix the problem. Fingers are crossed. If the issue doesn’t resolve I will move to a new host!

  10. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

I LOVE that you guys put a lot of effort into making sure your gym has all the types of weights you’d ever want! I need to put some cushiony mats down in mine. My yoga mat on a thin carpet is not enough cushion!

Our mat is super thick but it had to be to absorb some of the pressure that Adam will be exerting on it. When he lifts super heavy he doesn’t exactly drop the weights, but they get set down with some pressure (sometimes he lifts 400+lbs). Since the gym is on the second flood I told him we needed something to protect the ceiling from crumbling! lol (but seriously)

  11. karen

Yes to music!! Yes I see this!!I love that shoulder thing!! I don’t have one at my gym now, I miss it!! It will give great freaking shoulders. The one I use to lift was like 60 lbs. with no wight on it, isn’t it heavy??

    1. Kristina

yes, the bar itself is heavy!!!! Adam is a beast! 😀

  12. Kerry

Your at home gym looks beautiful! I wish I could set up something like that, but we move so often that I can’t imagine bringing weights with me around the country. lol.

I was definitely very worried about Adam’s toes when I saw that pic.

Hahahaha oh no I can’t imagine that either!!!!

I was worried about his toes too, but I think as long as he keeps his feet between the weights they can’t possibly fall on his toes right? I am telling myself that anyway!

  13. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Will you give us a vlog tour of you new home gym??? I will be honest, looking at Adam’s bare toes scared me! I think your blog has always worked/loaded correctly for me.

I will! That’s definitely on my to-do list for when the gym is complete. We still need to get a rack to hold all the weights, and I want to put some stuff up on the walls!

  14. Susan

Home gyms are the best! No more excuses right? I want to see a tour of the room if you want to show us that. I just have one thing I am waiting to add into my home gym and that is a cable machine. The one I want is almost 2K so first we will do our kitchen remodel and then I will save for that 🙂 Keep up the great work!!

I found your blog today and your post just made me smile… And yes, I can see this post 🙂
