Brace Yourselves, a Rant is Coming!

It’s FRIDAY and Oprah has spoken:

I’m seriously grateful it’s Friday. I’m not entirely sure why but yesterday my body just about shut down. During my run I actually closed my eyes and almost fell asleep.

Falling asleep mid-stride is one of the dangers of running as slowly as I do (especially on Hansons) :D.

But in all seriousness I did close my eyes and found it hard to reopen them. I ended up cutting my five mile run down to three because I just needed to get home, shower and sleep.

Since nothing noteworthy really happened I thought I’d share some random things like my new mug! How cute is this?

If you’re interested, the mug is available on Etsy for $18 – $21 depending on the size you want. I’m pretty sure I’m going to pick up a few extra to store away as Christmas gifts!

Another recent Etsy purchase is this rose gold necklace. I love it in theory, but tbh the jury is still out on how much I love it in reality.

The coin itself is really cute but smaller than I thought it would be based on the pictures. The necklace length is also shorter than I thought it would be. To be fair the necklace was only around $17, so I should have realized I would be getting what I paid for!

I think I’m going to repurpose the K pendant from this necklace into something else and order the Kate Spade “K” necklace. (I should have just done that in the first place!)

Okay and now I have to get something off my chest.

Here we go…

I seriously dislike when people smoke at the beach. First of all, many people just throw their cigarette butts into the sand which is disgusting and lazy. There are trash cans everywhere, deal with your situation in a considerate way!

To follow that up, I hate when I run into a cloud of smoke. The sidewalks at my beach are quite narrow and during the summer they get very crowded in the evenings. There are families with kids, people walking their dogs, people walking for exercise, cyclists, runners and meandering tourists all sharing a small area.

Considering there is A LOT of research to back up the deadly effects of second hand smoke I think it’s rude and unfair to light up in a crowded area. Since I’ve never been a smoker I can’t say I understand how strong the urge to smoke can be, but I know some people use gum, patches or e-cigarettes to help manage their cravings (esp. in certain environments). It would be nice if all smokers did that in public, crowded areas.

Buying that cat mug for my cousin for Christmas. She just got a little black kitty and will love it. I kind of want one for myself too, but in addition to be a crazy cat lady, I am a crazy perfectionist and need all of my coffee cups to match.

Hahahah I understand your mug situation!

Smoking in public bothers me too. Many smokers who do this at least admit that it’s shitty, which is a start, but what makes my blood boil even more is when smokers try to defend their own inconsiderate behavior. “If you don’t like it, go somewhere else, it’s my right, blah blah blah.” Seriously? No offense but I don’t care how hard it is to resist the urge, you still choose to do it and if you smoke, the onus is on you to contain your air pollution as much as possible. You have a choice to smoke but I don’t have a choice to breathe.

I hear you! I figured much of this rant would be preaching to the choir, but I was so annoyed at a HUGE puff of smoke that was blown my way yesterday that I had to get it off my chest.

I’ve known two people who have died prematurely due in part to their smoking habits. I get that adults can choose to smoke if they want, but it’s really such a selfish act. The devastation family and friends go through when someone dies prematurely due to smoking is so unfortunate and avoidable.

That being said IF you want to smoke outdoors, okay I guess, just try to do it in a non-crowded area. away from kids, pets and non-smokers. And put your cigarette butts in the trash! I get that they’re mostly biodegradable but they are ugly and can ruin otherwise nice areas. Just throw them away.

Ever since they banned smoking in restaurants, many bars, and outside public buildings (I think this happened around the time I graduated from college???) it is VERY jarring to me when I smell smoke because I just don’t smell it much anymore! No one in my close family smokes, I don’t have friends who smoke, and I don’t go to clubs/bars where it is allowed- mainly because I am an old ass lady now who likes to stay home. So anyway, if I am out somewhere, and someone is like 20 feet away smoking, I can smell it and it SUCKS!!!!!

When we went to Vegas last summer, one of the reasons I hated it so much was because out on the strip, all I could freaking smell was cigarette smoke. I wished I had an oxygen tank so I could enjoy walking around without feeling sick. We rolled up to the Bellaggio (sp?) to watch the fountains and got a really good spot… then someone smoking stood beside me. “We have to find a new spot,” I told Paul. “Really?” he asked, not believing I couldn’t suck it up for 5-10 minutes. “REALLY.” I said. I just can’t take the smell of smoke.

I have run through smoke before, so I know exactly what you are talking about with being annoyed that people do it down at the beach. OMG THE BEACH!!! Another place I get pissed off about!!! I hate when we lay out all our shit at the beach, get all comfy, and then someone 10 feet away lights up a cigarette and the smell blows over to us because… it’s the freaking beach. It is SO SELFISH to do this. Obviously not all smokers are selfish like this but some of them are and it makes me want to punch them in the face. I know that is a little over the top, but I have a right to NOT smell secondhand smoke.

Okay, one more rant. What pisses me off too is when I see smokers throw their cigarette butts out the car window. This happens ALL THE TIME in PA. Don’t they have ash trays in their car??? Couldn’t they PUT and ash tray in their car?? It’s littering and it’s DISGUSTING. Just another example of someone having a general disregard for the environment. When at a stop light and I see someone do this, I want to jump out of my car, pick up the butt, and give it to them and say, “You dropped this,” but they would probably punch me in the face if I did that….

Sorry for the long comment. I am with you in solidarity in regards to having to breath secondhand smoke and put up with people littering.

BTW: I only saw ONE PIECE OF TRASH at RMNP. It was pristine.

Wow…solid rant on a Friday lol.

Agree 100%! There are plenty of smokers who remove themselves from others to enjoy their addiction. Its possible for those inconsiderate ones to do the same. Its a choice and really comes down to people being rude and doing it “just because they can”. Really is petty.

I want to rant on successful bloggers who have awesome beaches and don’t share those every day with the non beach inhabitants of the world lol.

This weekend…uh hello, it’s fathers day, al about me 🙂

Thanks for the fathers day wishes!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s closed my eyes on a run and almost just continued while asleep! Like…for real. This happens to me on long runs a couple times a month I think!

I hate that smokers are such litterbugs. I actually kind of like running through a teeny bit of smoke during runs because it seems to energize me (how weird is that?!) but I hate when I’m surrounded by it in a stagnant place. And I hate that cigarette butts are all over the freaking ground all the time!! How hard is it to clean up after themselves?!

  6. June 18, 2016 / 12:28 pm

Smoking drives me crazy as well!! I don’t like running into a cloud of cigarette or BBQ smoke on the trail.

Love that cat mug! Have a good weekend!

One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing someone flick a lit cigarette out of a car window into the brush on the side of the road. It irks me! I do hate when I go anywhere and I have to take in a big puff of smoke…
Ugh, I often wonder why folks don’t see cigarettes as litter.
I love the cat mug lol Currently over run by cats – suits me perfect.
