Catching Up!

Hi there! I’m back in Fort Lauderdaleย ๐Ÿ™‚

Coming home from a super relaxing vacation is never easy, but it definitely helped that Adam and I got home on Saturday morning. It was so nice to know we still had a full weekend ahead to get caught up on everything we missed while we were exploring the Caribbean!

Our first stop of the morning was HOME so that we could drop our luggage off. Cecil was still at my mom’s house at this point so we wandered around aimlessly saying “it feels so weird that Cecil isn’t here” over and over again. Okay, so it wasn’t quite that bad! ๐Ÿ™‚

Weย took some time to unpack and then we headed out for breakfast since we had no food in the house.

We had not been to an IHOP in forever. I would really like to know who eats red velvet pancakes for breakfast because that just sounds really extreme. I went for a plain omelet and Adam had the chicken fajita omelet. We are clearly not extreme people.

On the way home after breakfast we stopped at the pet store to buy Cecil a new carrot. When we were cat sitting Georgie he became obsessed with licking the carrotย and Cecil was not happy about that so he needed a new one.

After the pet store we still had some time to kill before I was meeting my mom to pick up Cecil so I decided to go to the Apple store to buy a new laptop.

I have had the same Macbook Proย for seven years and have been thinking about upgrading for the last couple of months. While we were on the cruise I head about Apple’s recycle program which allows you to get a gift card when you turn in an old laptop — that was the info I needed to finally do it.

I packed up my Macbook Pro in its box and headed over to the mall to turn it in. Unfortunately I learned that they only accept iPhone and iPad recyclables in-store and I would need to mail my laptop in.

I still really wanted the new laptop so I bought it anyway. I have a Macbook Air from work that I really like so I decided to get a Macbook Air for at home too. The new Macbook Pros are really nice but they are overkill for what I need right now.

After picking up my laptop I headed over to my mom’s to get Cecil! I think he missed Adam and I while we were away because he stuck to our sides for the rest of the day.

I did fit in a short little run on Saturday but it was one of those awful runs. My legs felt like cement and I just didn’t get my mind into the run either. I think it was because I was really tired. The last night on the cruise ship I barely slept (idk why I just couldn’t fall asleep).

It felt good to be back into a normal routine but other than that I was glad when the run was over. I think it was also humid as hell because a storm was rolling in!

Now it’s time to go back to work… where’s the coffee? ๐Ÿ™‚

CONGRATS to all of the London marathoners!ย
Anyone use Apple’s recyclingย program? Thoughts?
What’s your best tip for getting through a run that you’re just not into?

So, that carrot got me thinking. What kind of plant IS catnip and how did human beings discover that it’s such a great treat for cats?! If you stop to think about it, it’s kind of weird haha.

Matt loves his MacBook Air. I do love how light it is, too! My laptop is a refurbished MacBook Pro from my sister; it sometimes gets super slow and wonky and it’s probably time for a new one, but I don’t want to spend the money!

Hmmm good question! I know there is an herbal plant called catnip that you can grow which is the same stuff as the dried out catnip they put in toys. I bet outdoor cats just gravitated towards the plant naturally and some smart caveman called it catnip! ๐Ÿ˜€

I know how you feel about not wanting to spend the money. That’s why I kept my macbook pro for so long, especially since I barely use it at night when I’m home except to blog. Apple’s recycle program offered me $200 though … although I checked ebay and my specific laptop is going for over $300 on there so I decided to sell it myself!

Welcome back! How much of a discount do you think you will get from your old laptop? Mine is not even 3 years old so Im not ready for upgrade yet, but maybe in like 2 years so.

Hey Lisa! For my 2011 macbook pro they offered me $200 but I can also sell it on ebay for about $300-350. You can look up your specific model here: http://reuserecycle.poweron.com/ That’s the company Apple partnered with to do their recycle program!

We need a new carrot too or we need to sew up the one we have because one of the cats ripped a hole in it and catnip was coming out! It’s in a plastic baggie now. Did Cecil immediately act excited to see you, or was it not until later? When we get home from long vacations, the cats act too cool for school at first but then they never leave our sides! Have fun with your new laptop!

Cecil goes through cycles! At first he is always happy and purrs and wants to be held. Then he acts too cool and doesn’t want to be pet. Finally he comes around and becomes glued to our sides. On Saturday he just kept moving from my lap to Adam’s lap. Sunday he was glued to us as well. He also slept above my head on my pillow both nights which he does frequently but not all the time. I love when he does it’s so cute ๐Ÿ™‚

Did we have the same run on Saturday? The whole thing just felt physically and mentally awful. I was aiming for 6 miles. I pushed through 2 miles and then decided to head home for a total of four. I switched to run/walk at that point. Which made it slightly more bearable, but I could just tell that it was one of those days (super stressed/emotional day ๐Ÿ™ ).

I did run/walk as well and my last mile was 16 minutes haha! I’m sorry that you had such a stressful and emotional day. Was it because of school? I hope that you’re feeling better today!

    Welcome back! How is Cecil?

I always wonder who buys any of the overloaded pancakes at Ihop! my son has been wanting me to take him to get the birthday cake pancake, but the closest Ihop to us is a 45 minute drive! If I ever take him, i’ll look for who orders extreme pancakes!

I just bought an iMac Pro from my brother! and just picked it up last night, still getting used to it and learning the Mac features. I haven’t had a usable laptop in about 4 years, now I feel spoiled!

Cecil is in stage 3 clinger mode ๐Ÿ™‚ He does NOT want to be left alone for even a second!

Yay for new computers! Is this your first mac ever? I hope you like it. I got my first mac back in college and haven’t owned a pc since!

Welcome back! When we went on our cruise it also ended on Saturday and I agree it was so nice to have that extra day to rest and reacclimate.

Being out of shape for the past 4 months I have a LOT of “those” runs! What helps me is to just think of how happy I’ll be to be done, and how I’ll be glad later that I ran crappy miles instead of sitting on the couch. I’ll sometimes bargain with myself by saying I can turn around early and cut the run short.

Thanks Hanna! Hahah I make those bargains with myself too. “Just one more mile” except on Saturday I had to keep myself going by saying “just .25 more and you can decide to go home.” It was bad!

It sounds like you guys had an awesome trip! The pictures are just beautiful! Oh and congrats on the new laptop. I have a macbook air and I absolutely love it. Mine’s pretty old, but it still works great.

For me, the biggest issue is getting out the door on a run. Sometimes that is hard, but if I just force myself to get dressed and at least get outside, I can make the run happen. I usually promise myself that if I am still not feeling it after 20 minutes, I’ll go home, but that never happens. Once I’m out, usually it’s a lot easier.

So true, it’s definitely easier to keep going once you’re out there. Normally once I get started I pick up steam but I just had nothing in me on Saturday. I was practically crawling down my block when I got home! Thank goodness most days are not like that!

I hope you had a wonderful time on vacation. It’s so great that you came back and still had the whole weekend to wind down. I think I’m going to start using that as my vacation method to! It’s hard to go from super relaxed environment straight back to the grind!

Thank you Desiree! It is SO hard to go from vacation to work. A couple of times we’ve done four night/five day cruises where we get home Monday morning and then go straight to work — that’s so so so hard. Coming home on Saturday gives you a chance to ease back into a normal routine and also get grocery shopping, laundry, etc done before you dive right back into the daily grind!

Aw! I bet it was very nice to have Cecil back <3.

My best tip for go through a run that I'm just not into is to just think on how much time it will take me. If it's an hour, then my thoughts will be something like: "Is just an hour. I could be spending this hour sitting on the couch watching YouTube. I bet an hour will pass very fast and I'll be very happy to finish."

OMG, what an incredible picture of the water (first pic). WOW!! I am debating on where to go on vacation this year and want something tropical. I will have to research where you went!
That’s great to get back from vacation on a Saturday. Yahoo on a new laptop! I have a MacBook Pro and LOVE it. Didn’t think I would switch over from Windows to Mac easily, but NBD.
