Catching Up!

Hey there! I hope you had a great weekend. Adam and I both have today and tomorrow off of work, so we’re off to the beach today! Not a bad way to spend a Monday :).

Over the weekend we worked our tails off on the house again. We made quite a lot of changes to the lighting in the house since we moved in: installing recessed lighting, removing chandeliers, taking down wall lighting, etc.

This has all left a bunch of holes in the ceiling in the walls, so Adam went around patching them up.

Then I came through and painted the areas so that they blend in with their surroundings. We still need to paint some areas on the ceiling but that will have to be for a later date when we’re in the mood to move all of the furniture out of the way!

Working on the house put me into Cleaning Mode and I ended up giving my makeup brushes a thorough washing for the first time in… well, too long.

I realized I was out of brush cleanser, so I decided to the cleansing oil I use on my face. It did the job perfectly! Now I have nice, clean brushes.

Cecil loves to help out around the house, but ended up getting in the way when Adam and his dad were installing some new recessed lighting in the kitchen. He ended up having to spend some time in his room alone, so when he finally was allowed out we took him out for a walk in the park!

At one point I stopped to take some pics and Adam walked on ahead. I had to speed walk to catch back up and within that couple of minutes my calves started to get tight. Just that annoying daily reminder of why I’m not running right now.

I do have to say for a couple of days after I did this workout my arms were sore as heck. I definitely plan to do it again soon.

Last week I blogged about maybe trying to find a way to keep running. After thinking it through some more, I’m going to just let running be until after I am officially cleared by the doctor to run like normal.Β I’m going to stick with strength training and maybe add in some pool running. I’ll probably keep up with a couple of walks per week as well.

I officially cancelled my registration and hotel for the runDisney Wine & Dine challenge. Even though runDisney has a no refund / no deferral policy, they were kind enough to give me a Disney gift card for about 1/2 the amount I paid for the races after I explained why I had to drop.

I can’t use the gift card to pay for future races but I can use it for merchandise at future runDisney events so that’s something to consider. Maybe I’ll sign up for the Wine & Dine challenge for 2018. Anyone else planning to be there?

A part of me is still hopeful that I’ll get into the London marathon for April, and another part of me hopes that I don’t get in. I had envisioned crossing the finish line there after a great training cycle in cool(er) fall weather here in Florida. However, by the time I am able to start running again after surgery it may be upwards of five or six months since I last ran. And I would have to jump right into marathon training.

What will my endurance be like after that much time off? Will I even be able to run 5K without feeling totally drained? It feels so crazy to even think about that but I’ve never had to take this much time off of running before so I have no idea what to expect.

Whatever happens it’ll be fine because I’ll be back to running :). In the mean time I’ve got this little boy to hang out with and plenty of time to plan my comeback!

    Thats was nice of them to offer your the gift card! Its probably smart to just take a break from running right now. Pool running would be a great option! Hope you have a nice day at the beach!

    I hope all goes well with your recovery!

    We don’t have any 4ht of July plans, I am working today and Wednesday, I have to pretend to be a responsible adult and miss the fireworks and partying. We might drive to a close by small town to just walk around and eat.

      Oh man, I hope you were able to see at least a little bit of the fireworks in your area! Or at least hear them from your bed. At least you had the actual 4th off of work! It’s always nice to have a day off in the middle of the week!!

    I am trying to jump back in after a missing a few weeks so I will have to go back and read your posts! It sounds like surgery is happening though and i wish you all the best.
    I would give yourself time to heal and not worry about jumping right into training…of course you will probably get in to London now right.
    Cleaning mode always feels so good!! I am working today, no 4th plans for me.

      I know, I was totally thinking that about London too. Of course now I will probably get in! At least I’ll have the option to defer if I feel like I need to!

    I am so glad you’ll be able to get back to running Kristina! although it sucks that you won’t be able to run at Disney next year, there is always the next year race. I am dying to run a Disney race but I don’t think it’s going to happen this year, so maybe I’ll see you there by 2018;)

    That’s good that Disney at least gave you something. Those are expensive races!!
    I think that’s a good choice to wait until you get the Dr’s clearance for running. Some day (soon!) you’ll look back at this and wonder why you were in such a hurry to get back at it!

    You’re right, it won’t matter what shape you’re in when you’re back at running because you will be BACK AT RUNNING. The road is always there, waiting for us. It’s not going anywhere.

    Cecil has two carrots??? He’s the luckiest little guy in the world! Our carrots keep getting demolished and it’s too expensive to keep up with!

    Omg, I never washed my makeup brush I use for my blush. Should I tell you how long it’s been? Do you really want to know?? AT LEAST 9 YEARS lolllll.

      OMG NINE YEARS?!?!?!?! You don’t get any acne or anything from the brush?!

      Cecil is definitely spoiled! He had a rough first few weeks of life and I want every day that he’s with us to be the best day of his life!

    I think if you get into London you will have plenty of time to build up and get in shape. A traditional training cycle for a late April race wouldn’t start until mid-late December, and I think resuming in October and taking two months to ease back in would give you enough to be prepared for the first couple weeks, which are pretty light in most plans anyway (I only ran 22 miles in my first week of marathon training!). Remember, London is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Of course it’d be nice to be in tip top shape but just going on that journey will be thrilling enough. There are plenty of other marathons to focus on training well and running your best time. Don’t take a WMM for granted!

    So, I take this to mean you’re going ahead with the Aug 9 surgery? I hope your recovery is speedy. And I agree, that was very gracious of Disney to give you a gift card. I know how stingy most races are about cancellations. It is a shame that they don’t do deferrals though!

      Thanks Hanna, you’re always the voice of reason!

      I have the compartment syndrome test on August 9th. After that I’ll be able to schedule the surgery. I hope I’ll be able to schedule it right after. Like, if they could wheel me into the hospital the same day I would go. I’m so anxious to get the whole thing over with because the test scares me, surgery terrifies me and I just want to get back into the normal routine of running again. The days don’t feel the same without it, especially now that work and house stuff have slowed down some!

    I need to really wash my brushes πŸ™‚ I was off running for 3 months and coming back has been both wonderful and a challenge. It is wonderful because I am running and loving every minute of it. It’s humbling because I am keeping a very slow pace and I am only running 3x per week for 30-40 minutes. But during my break I really shifted my focus (1) back to the fact that I am a triathlete and I have two other sports I need to give attention to (2) to strength training. Honestly, I am trying to talk myself into being a slower, shorter distance runner right now. At least for the next 6 months so I can make sure my body is OK with the trianing. I feel more well rounded and I don’t want my body to hurt. I actually wrote a “dear ego” letter to myself last night! I need to drop the ego like a bad habit and embrace the new me.
