Catching Up!

Guess what? My blog issues have been fixed and I’m back in business! 🙂

I thought we could catch up on the last few days today since there is a lot to talk about. First up, a confession…

1. I still haven’t run a Turkey Trot. I know, I was super excited to run the local 5K turkey trot this year, but on Thanksgiving morning I just didn’t feel like getting out of bed. Normally I would force myself to get out there for a run/race but I knew this entire 4-day “weekend” would be full of early mornings, lots of work and some late nights so I opted for the extra rest.

Basically on Wednesday we picked a move-in date for the new house (in 2 weeks) and now the craze has BEGUN! We are working furiously against the clock since our to-do list is still endless! :-O

2. Lots of running “on my time” happened. Running “on my time” means when I feel like it. Sometimes that’s 5pm, sometimes that’s 8pm. It’s never early-morning-o-clock.

I spent Friday night with the gym to myself where I was able to get in a short run and a good little lifting session.

Assisted pull ups: 5 x 5 (hate pull ups)
Chest press: 2 w/up sets then 3 x 7 @ 40lbs
Lat pull down: 2 w/up sets then 3 x 7 @ 70lbs
Bent over rows: 2 w/u sets then 3 x 7 @ 30lbs
Shoulder press: 2 w/up sets then 3 x 7 @ 20lbs
Bicep curls: 3 x 10 @ 12lbs
Dumbbell squats: 2 w/up sets then 3 x 7 @ 50lbs
Leg press: 4 w/up sets then 1 x 10 @ 315lbs
Plank: 3 x 1 minute

Obligatory leg press pic because a.) it’s the only lift where my hands are free to take a picture and b.) 315lbs is impressive to photograph, haha.

Outside of the gym I’ve gotten in a few good runs at the beach :).

The weather has been nice, and although my legs are tired from standing on them all day doing work at the house, it feels good to stretch them out on a run.

My calves have been feeling a lot looser/better even on the days (like last night) when I run slower. I can’t pinpoint an exact reason why they suddenly feel better but I’ll take it!

I honestly suspect that sitting at a desk for 8 hours of day is just not helping. It can’t be a total coincidence that my calves always feel best on the days when I’m moving around all day instead of sitting a chair.

3. The house is really coming together now! Over the weekend we had our bathroom vanity delivered and it’s (mostly) installed. That means I don’t have to look at this anymore!

Yesterday I finished the painting in the morning and Adam and his dad installed the new vanity in the late afternoon. The mirrors aren’t up yet though so I can’t show you yet, but soon! This is one of my favorite areas in the house :).

By the time we left the house yesterday I was pooped. Also, someone please remind me to stop wearing my old Glycerins to the house.

They are totally worn down which is why I retired them, and yet I think I seem to still expect them to provide me comfortable support while I’m standing for 8 hours a day working away. My feet were burning by the time we left!

When I got home and slipped into my new Glycerins to go running it felt like putting pillows on my feet!

I listened to a Christmas playlist on this run, although it’s hard to get into the spirit when it’s still so warm out! If I eventually find time to decorate for Christmas I’ll need to crank the a/c down to make it feel cold :).

I hope you’ve been having a great weekend so far!

Have you started listening to holiday music?

We are planning to decorate today so we will probably put on some holiday music. I bet you are on to something with your calves being worse when you sit all day! Can you try moving around more at work and seeing if that helps? I know I feel better running when I don’t sit as much.

I will definitely try to get up and move around more at work. I feel like I already do move around a lot … I drink water nonstop which means I’m always walking to the ladies room! haha

      Have fun decorating!!!

I’ve avoided holiday music successfully so far this season. We love it but live 800 miles from family – and it makes us homesick. So we hold off until we’re able to see everyone.

Awww yeah I can totally understand that! I’m sure the holidays will be here before you know it and you’ll be back with them!

315lb IS freaking impressive! When I got your snap, I wasn’t only impressed that you could lift that, but that you could do that *while* you snapped.

Two weeks!! That is so exciting! Will you be sad at all to leave your apartment? I remember I cried when I left mine, even though I was VERY excited to move into my house. It was the end of an era! I also went from living at home with the kitties to being married and living with Paul and Basic, so it really was an end of an era.

I will be sad about leaving the apartment at some point, but probably not in two weeks. Our lease isn’t up until the end of January, and we have to keep paying rent on it, so we’ll be able to go back and see it for a little while. I think we’re going to keep going back to use the gym here since it’s free for residents and so beautiful. In February we’ll sign up for a new gym — or Adam says he may create a gym at the house.

WOW that was the end of an era for you, but it must have been so exciting to move in with Paul and Basic!

Oh wow – move in date targeted!! Wooooot! That is so exciting!
Daaaaaaaang – 315 pounds?? I’m excited to do 125! That is very impressive.
My running shoes are all numbered, because I have at least 5 pairs in rotation somewhere around the house at any given time (yes we have a running shoe addiction around our house!) – so when they “expire” I need to cross the numbers off the shoes so I remember to not run in them. I do wear them for errands, but I think I have pulled out an old pair several times this week to run/race in because they were hanging out by my door (lazy factor). I guess it’s good they aren’t hurting my feet/legs!

That’s so smart to keep your shoes numbered! I’ve read that you should rotate shoes, but I’ve never done that. I wonder if one of my 2017 resolutions should be to start rotating shoes?! Five pairs is impressive. I can only imagine how many pairs you have in total in the house!!! 😀

I noticed my calves started to feel better when I stopped sitting with my feet below me – I have to keep them up on a stool or something. Blood flow, maybe?

I’m glad the house is coming together!! I bet you’re SO excited to move in!

Maybe your calves feel better on slower runs because you are a little more relaxed? Also, i don’t know if you wear heels, but when I tried wearing boots with high heels at work it really messed with my calves, so I stopped.

I’ve never run a Turkey Trot eithter! My hometown in Iowa doesn’t have one on Thanksgiving day (I know, right, wtf?!), and there are some here in Milwaukee but if we have family here they don’t run so I don’t want to pull away to do one by myself – it’s just never worked out!

Congrats on the move in date! TWO WEEKS! It’s gonna fly!
