Catching Up!

What a week. You remember when I tripped and fell during my run on Tuesday? My knees didn’t get scraped up too badly because my left side got the brunt of the fall.

My left elbow is badly scraped, my left hand has a bruise AND now I think I sprained my shoulder (which must have been the first thing to hit). At the time I thought my shoulder was just sore from falling, but it still hurts so badly.

I can’t lift my arm up very far without being in a lot of pain. Washing my hair is honestly a nightmare. Taking ibuprofen helps some but mostly it feels best when I am sitting perfectly still.  If I’m not feeling any better by Saturday I am going to have to make an appointment with my doctor. I am avoiding it at the moment because everything I’ve read online has basically said with a grade one sprain the doctor will just tell you to take ibuprofen and rest until it feels better (which should be in 2-7ish days).

Since I’m currently winning the couch potato race, I thought today I could share some non-running updates!

1. The Yummly App is Awesome!

My new nutritionist recommended I download the Yummly app on my phone — and it’s so awesome. When you sign up you tell the app what kinds of foods you like, what foods you won’t eat, what food allergies you have, etc. and then it pulls up recommended recipes for you. I’m still playing around with the personalization (there’s a lot) but so far I think it’s so cool.

Once you find a recipe you like you can bookmark it and also create a grocery list of the ingredients. Then, if you have an Instacart membership (which I do), you can send the grocery list to your personal shopper via Instacart to be delivered to your home! If you don’t have Instacart then you have a handy grocery list for the next time you head to the store!

2. New “Stay Brave” Bracelet!

I’ve been eyeing up jewelry from Mejuri for a couple of months now and finally ordered myself a bracelet. Since my motto for this year is “I am not afraid” I got the bracelet that says Stay Brave on it.

IMG_1646

I love the bracelet so much. It is pretty affordable and came in such a cute, personalized package. I think it’s the perfect size for layering with other bracelets (which I love doing) or to wear all on its own! You can take $20 off your first order with Mejuri if you use my referral link! 🙂

If you decide to order something from them let me know what you get. Since I like the quality of this bracelet so much I am thinking about placing another order for some other things. I’ve got my eye on a couple of their rings!

3. I Found the Best Chapstick

I’m normally a Burt’s Bees kind of girl, but I recently decided to try the Yes to Coconuts chapstick and it’s amazing. If you like the smell and taste of coconut you’re going to love this one!

IMG_1611

I think it was like $2.99 at Target!

4. T-R-A-F-F-I-C    S-T-I-N-K-S!

Since I changed my working hours to 7 to 4 I haven’t had to sit in very much traffic, but yesterday there were a couple of accidents and it took me almost two hours to get to work.

IMG_1639

I always feel bad when I complain about the traffic build up from accidents because I know people’s lives can be turned upside down after a tragic accident. That being said it is so frustrating to sit in barely moving traffic for two hours. Especially when the accident has been cleared but we’re barely moving because of “onlooker delays.” Even more especially because traffic is already a nightmare heading into midtown and downtown Miami just due to the sheer number of people who commute in.

Do you ever have to deal with traffic like this going to or from work? It really can put you in a bad mood for a long time. I’m trying to get better about letting stuff like this just roll off my back.

5. Cecil is a Good Watch Cat

Last night Adam went outside in our little back patio area to do some cardio (jump rope, shadow boxing, etc) and Cecil sat at the door and watched him the whole time.

He’s such a sweet little boy!

HAPPY FRIDAY!
What’s your favorite chapstick?
(I used to looove Carmex because it’s tingly lol)
Do you use a recipe app? Where do you find new recipes?

Very pretty bracelet! I see some rings I like! The traffic jams would get frustrating. 🙁 Do you use the time to clean up your email and read blogs?? That’s what I would do. My only traffic jam on the way to work is when a train stops at the crossing… and then they back the train up (they take it both directions). I got stuck there for a 1/2 hour one time. Funny because it’s only a 1/4 mile from my office, but I just couldn’t get there!!

      Thank you Lisa!

It’s tough to do anything except listen to podcasts during my commute because it’s pretty much stop-and-go. We inch forward …. literally. I wish we were just totally stopped so I could catch up on emails and blogs!

I hope you feel better soon! Please get it checked out if you don’t see improvement or not enough improvement. I ended up in physical therapy for 12 weeks after my fall in 2015 and it was not fun.

    I hate Miami traffic 🙁 It’s dreadful.

Thanks LeAnne! Luckily by Sunday it was started to feel much better. I still can’t lift it up all the way in the front, but I can now reach behind me (for instance to unhook my bra) and that doesn’t cause pain anymore. Slowly but surely getting there!

The is the sweetest picture on Cecil! He wants to be outside with his daddy! The bracelet is very pretty. I love layering bracelets. Traffic can but me in a really bad mood. I am so lucky that I don’t have to get on any highways to go to work, it’s only back roads. Traffic can put me in a really bad mood and I tend to get annoyed on the way home if someone behind me is driving slow or I get stuck behind a bus!

As hard as it is for me to admit, Cecil definitely loves Adam more than me 🙁 It’s so unfair!

I’m so sorry you’re hurt from your fall!!! Yikes. Hoping you feel better soon!

I only live 4 miles from work so traffic isn’t usually a problem. Although I’ll never forget one night a few years ago, it was snowing really bad and I was taking the bus home and traffic was so gridlocked that a normally 20 minute trip took almost two hours! I know how you feel because I was so mad. I felt like my whole evening was ruined.

      Thank you hanna!

OMG 2 hours on a bus! In the snow! I can only imagine how frustrating that was, especially since you’re not used to it!

I love the round EOS lip balms… SO soft and easy to find in my purse or drawer! My cat Emma also watches whatever we’re doing. She’s not usually cuddly, but she wants to be aware of what’s going on!

I like EOS lip balms too. I’m strangely obsessed with putting my lips around them and swirling it …. I’m sure this isn’t normal lol

  7. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

Ugh, I am so sorry your injuries from your fall are more serious than I originally thought! It sounds like they’re really bugging you. As kids, it always seems like you fall and just bounce back, but I guess it’s harder to do when you’re older. I really hope you feel better soon. Maybe an epsom salt bath and a heating pad would help.

Seriously! I remember falling off my bike all the time as a kid and never having any issues. Now my skinned knees still hurt and my shoulder is busted. I mean… am I really that old now?! 😀

  8. Susan

Ugh…the collateral damage from the falls can be awful! Every time I fell last year, I bruised my ribs. It took about a week for it to feel better and although running wasn’t affected, my swimming was (I had to switch which side I take a breath on). Hang in there, girl! I don’t know if you are a bath person, but really hot, epsom salt baths (w/ essential oils) help me so much when my body says OUCH. Traffic does suck and there is nothing you can do (but try not to be frustrated but how easy is that?!? um, not very easy). Chapstick mint flavor is my jam. Does Cecil follow Adam around all the time? If Rick goes outside and doesn’t take Macy she just sits at the door and waits for him. She is basically in love with him and wants to be right by his side all the time (oh yeah, except when I walk her then it’s all about me).

    1. Kristina

Awww that’s so cute that Macy follows Rick around! Cecil follows us both around, herding us like cattle until we’re somehow all in the kitchen near the treat drawer. He loooooves sitting on Adam’s lap though. It’s honestly a miracle if he sits in my lap, but he’s in Adam’s lap every damn night. I’m not jealous.
