Hola! Long time, no see. Sorry I missed a handful of posts last week, but every night when I got home from work I was just totally exhausted. On top of that I caught a little cold at the end of the week and that knocked me down a peg too — but I’m back in business! 🙂 Let’s catch up!
1. Work is work.
At the beginning of last week I told myself I would not work late more than two nights. When I told one of my colleagues this she laughed and said, “yeah, don’t we all say that at the beginning of the week?”
I am stress eating Ice Breakers like you wouldn’t believe. I pop one in my mouth about every 15 seconds and seem to go through a tin a day! Luckily they sell them at the convenience store right across from my office so I can get my fix. It’s honestly like having a smoking habit except it’s an addiction to minty fresh breath.
2. Adam and I booked our spring vacation!
Adam’s work schedule has been pretty hectic too and we both are feeling a little burnt out. It’s become a tradition around here for us to take a cruise in the spring so that’s what we’re going to do! We’ll be going on Harmony of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s new ship.
We always cruise with Royal because Adam works for them so we can usually get a good deal :).
I love cruising because we can leave from Port Everglades which is only about 15 minutes from our house, and once we get on the ship life becomes stress-free. There’s someone to cook us delicious food, make our bed and clean our bathroom. It’s about as relaxing as a vacation can be.
Royal ships also always have nice gyms and this ship offers spin class. I have been contemplating trying spin for a while, so I think I will finally give it a try on the cruise!
When we cruise we always forget to book our tickets for on-board entertainment before we leave and then all the good shows are “sold out” by the time we go to the ticket booth (tickets are free but they’re first come, first serve). Harmony is running a production of Grease and I will not miss that so I’ve already reserved our seats!
I can’t wait to see this!
3. I’m back to running after 1.5 weeks off!
With my work schedule being so jam packed, there hasn’t really been time for running. Okay, I know I can always make time for running, but I wouldn’t have enjoyed it if I did because I was already feeling so drained.
Over the weekend I finally got back to running after 1.5 weeks off and it felt simultaneously great and horrible. I’ve been fighting off a small cold the last couple of days and my breathing felt off. At the same time it felt so good to be out in the fresh air moving fresh legs!
This week I am not going to stay late at work more than two days and I’m going to make sure I run as much as possible. I can’t tell if it’s the small cold I have or a loss of fitness, but I definitely didn’t feel like the same person who ran a confidence boosting 10-miler just a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to need another one of those confidence boosting long runs again soon!
At Megan’s suggestion I started listening to the Missing Maura Murray podcast during my runs this weekend. Maura Murray is a college student that went missing back in 2004. No one has spotted her since.
The podcast looks at the mysterious events leading up to her disappearance. If you liked Serial you’ll probably like this one. There are 40+ episodes I think so there is plenty of long-run material here to listen to!
4. Adam and I are really into playing (board) games now.
We’ve been playing Rummicube every night out on our new patio after years of not playing board games. Back in college we used to play Cranium with our friends all the time, but you really need a good amount of people to play. Since most nights it’s just Adam, Cecil and I we’ve been looking for good 2-player games.
We bought Scattergories over the weekend and now that’s added to our rotation. We’re definitely in the market for other 2-player games so if you have any suggestions please leave a comment below!
5. Cecil continues to be the best cat ever.
I worked from home again last Friday since I wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to spread my germs around the office. Cecil stuck by my side the whole day :).
I am in awe of stay-at-home moms because that job sounds like a nightmare to me, but a stay-at-home cat mom job? I could handle that!
Have you heard of the Maura Murray case?
Do you like cruising? What’s your favorite port?
Best thing about your weekend?
