Catching Up!

I’ve been slacking on real time running related posts this week because I haven’t been running!

After my long run on Sunday one of my feet was feeling a little achey. I suspect it was because I thought I could get just one more long run out of a pair of shoes I should have retired a couple of weeks ago.

The ache wasn’t very bad, but since I have my final 5K this weekend I decided to be overly cautious and take a couple of extra rest days.

After a few weeks of really wonderful running weather I am SO BUMMED to see that on Sunday it’s going to be warm for the 5K. I was hoping the weather for the race would be in the upper 50s or 60s.

I did finally get in a run TODAY and it felt really good to be reunited with my favorite activity after three non-running days in a row! 8 miles along the coast!

Since I’ve been slacking on running I have had time to focus on cross training – especially strength training!

Here’s an upper body workout I’m proud of:

This was a good workout but I need to increase weight on those bicep curls if I am ever going to impress anyone when I flex! haha

    I just started Episode 4 on my run this morning! I’m trying to savor the episodes for my runs, but its so hard because it is SO GOOD.

    Enough complaining about those warm temps down there 😉

      I tried to savor them too but it was impossible for me! It’s just so intriguing and I really wanted to be able to listen to the final episode today 🙂

    Awesome job with the weights! I don’t know if/when I will actually start using weights. Right now I only do body weight exercises and those hurt! lol! I am a wimp!! Also, a little sensitivity would be nice….bummed it’s going to be warm? Really Kristina? Thanks for reminding me that 30° sucks! HAHA!! It does suck it will be that warm though. I like racing when its in the 40’s. Perfect for my body to perform well.

      30 degrees sounds fun! But that’s probably only because I don’t have to deal with it, haha ;).

      Racing in the 70s and 80s isn’t fun in the 5K though. I am sure I will feel like an overbaked potato by the end!

    Awesome upper body workout! I am about to increase my chest press. I have been doing 12-15 reps at 25lbs but it is time to go to 30 from now on. Even if I can only get out 8 reps, I think it will make me stronger!

    I listened to the last Serial! I started listening to it on Monday night and was finished with the first 11 episodes by yesterday morning and I finished it today! No spoilers, don’t worry!

      You’ve got it! I need to increase weight on the shoulder press, it’s becoming way too easy to knock out all those reps. When I do weights in the morning or late at night I get lazy though! Oy!

      Hahahah I am so glad you listened! I KNEW you would really enjoy it. I listened to the last episode this morning on my way to work. I have no idea what to think about who did it anymore, but I definitely don’t think Adnan should be in prison based on what we’ve heard in the podcast.

    I have been hearing so much about that podcast, I am going to have to listen to it–but after the holidays! Great job with the cross training! I am bummed that it is “warm” here too–I really want a white Christmas!

    OMG! Yes! Happy last episode of Serial day! I can’t wait to listen to it later tonight! I think I’ll have some separation anxiety once it’s over though.

    Funny you mention your lack of running this week, I also haven’t been running! I haven’t run since Saturday. I’ll be at the gym tonight. Honestly, I just couldn’t muster up the motivation. I had a blog post I was working really hard on and I was just really in the mood to write all week, and I think I was tired from my long run on Saturday. I figure this is probably the last time I can get away with slacking off for a very long time, so might as well get it out of my system now!

      I have been thinking along the same lines too. Today’s 8 miles was my ‘long’ run for the week since I have the 5K this weekend. Since it’s a down week for me in terms of mileage anyway, I just sort of let one extra rest day spiral into two and then three! To be honest, I am not feeling guilty about it either because it felt so right 😉

    Look at THOSE temperatures!!! Oh, to live in Florida. What are the Serial podcasts? Am I waaay behind the times right now? (obviously, because everyone in your comments section seems to listen too, haha!)

      Here’s the official description of this season’s story: On January 13, 1999, Adnan Syed was a hurt and vengeful ex-boyfriend who carried out a premeditated murder. Or he was a bewildered bystander, framed for a crime he could never have committed. After 15 months of reporting, we take out everything we’ve got – interviews and documents and police reports – we shake it all out, and we see what sticks.

      It’s really interesting to hear the recordings from back in 1999 mixed with recent interviews. The host also does an incredible job with investigative reporting throughout the entire season. The story hooks you right from the beginning!

    Nice work with your upper body workout! I’m sure it was hard to miss out on running for a few days, but it was probably nice to focus some energy on a different part of the body. Is your foot feeling better? I hope so!

    I would trade weather in a heart beat – we have a couple inches of snow on th ground today – not my favorite!!!
    Glad you were able to run again – hope the aches in your feet are gone!!!

      The ache(s) are gone!!! Phew! I never felt any real pain-pain so I knew that a couple of rest days would clear it right up! 🙂

    Smart to rest up! Great job getting eight BEAUTIFUL miles in this morning though. What time do you usually start running in the morning?

    I never run in the morning but today worked out – I had a meeting at 10 and woke up at 8 (again, not a morning person) so figured I would get it in. Definitely not my favorite time to run but I’m happy I got it in before the day got busier. It was cold though – 29º at the start with a wind chill of 19º! Let’s trade 😉

      I’m not a morning person either! The only reason I ran this morning was because I had 8 miles to do and I knew after work I wouldn’t want to run that far.

      Most mornings I wake up around 7 or 7:15, today I got up at 5. Ugh!

      Instead of trading weather let’s just blend the two climates together and end up with something right in the middle!

    The beach picture makes me want to go barefoot with a margarita 🙂 It’s always take some rest, I’ve had a light week too, I was feeling tired after last week. Great job on the 8 miler! I wish it was going to be a little cooler for you, but you are used to that crazy heat, so rock it out!!! Great cross training, making muscle is always good! Curling is tough stuff, I haven’t moved up any weight in quite awhile either. As long as you feel the burn you are working just fine. It’s amazing how fast shoes wear out, isn’t it?!

      It was really nice to wake up and get the run out of the way. I wish I could drag myself out of bed every day for a morning run but I just don’t have that kind of willpower. I like my sleep 🙂

    You have the most beautiful running route! I am very jealous of your warm and sunny runs! Way to go with the cross training, and I think it’s a good thing to mix up your running with strength training/cross training. 🙂

      Thanks, Lou!! I am working hard on getting faster so that we can run the Gold Coast Marathon together someday 🙂 The video on the race website has me excited about it! haha
