Yesterday was one of those days.

You know, the kind where you just have to curl up with a big cup of hot tea at the end of the day.

Okay, so actually that’s how I end every single night, but last night was a two cup of tea night.

Is it the weekend yet?

The one shining bit of awesomeness that came out of yesterday was that I *officially* joined Team Paws which means I am 120% running the Chicago Marathon this October!

I’m really excited to support a cause that I am passionate about, and to combine that with running which I am equally as passionate about!

^ That -70% change is pretty powerful!

Once I set up my fundraising page I’ll pop a link in the sidebar of the blog in case you should want to donate.

Now that I’ve officially joined the team I am ready to begin training right away! Why does the race have to be 10 months away?!

When I told Adam that it was official his immediate response was, “that’s great, I can’t wait to eat deep dish pizza!” Haha, me too!

I’ve only been to Chicago once and I didn’t get to see any of the city. I was there for a work related conference and I never left the hotel except to go to and from the airport.

This time I won’t make the same rookie marathon mistake of flying out the same day as I finish the marathon. Instead we’ll make a full trip out of Chicago and stick around for a bit of relaxation after the race!

In calf related news, I can barely feel the uncomfortableness when I walk or stand on my tippy…. but in the middle of the night I woke up with the WORST. CRAMP. EVER. I wanted to rip my calf off and throw it out the window! Not cool! Once the cramp went away it felt okay though. Weird!

I can’t wait to start running again. I know it’s so cliche to say that when you’re taking a break from running but I really miss it! Just a couple more days to go!

Any big plans for the weekend? Are you racing?
Best places to visit / hotels to stay at in Chicago??
– I want to book early!

Yay! Chicago hear you come!!! I love researching new cities, places to eat and stay. 🙂

This week… omg what a week. It’s a whirlwind, I tell ya! I have no been so ready for Friday! And I have nothing to do this weekend which is freaking AWESOME!!!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:38 pm

I love researching new cities too! We usually never end up eating at the places I pick beforehand because we find cool places while walking around, but it’s fun to plan things out anyway!

  2. January 9, 2015 / 5:46 am

YAY!!!! There is so much to do in Chicago!!! You will have to check the schedule for Navy Pier, I am not sure when they quit doing it but I know for part of the year they have fireworks over Lake Michigan at like 10pm and they have boat dinners you can see them from. Millennium park is cool it hosts the “silver ball” lots of people take selfies with…you can get some really interesting photos there! lol! I am a lame tourist so probably not much help! But they have great zoos, aquariums, and you have to go to the top of Willis Tower so long as you aren’t afraid of heights! 🙂

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:39 pm

Thank you for all of the great tips! I has not heard of Willis Tower before but now I need to check that out!

  3. January 9, 2015 / 8:58 am

Congrats on Chicago, this is great news. Your going Rio have so much fun by making a trip out of this visit. Calf is getting better, just keep following the plan and you’ll be running in no time.

No plans this weekend, big race coming you next weekend. Sorry never been to Chicago, no help on that front.

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:40 pm

When is your full marathon? That’s coming up in just a few weeks isn’t it???

  4. January 9, 2015 / 9:16 am

Yay!! Awesome news! There is nothing quite like the thrill of officially registering or getting word that you’re officially IN for a big race! Non runners will never understand, hehe 🙂

Team PAWS is awesome, and that -70% stat is amazing. I love animals, it warms my heart that you are so passionate about this cause!

Chicago is just a hop skip and a jump away from me, maybe we could meet up! I have been wanting to do a more thorough exploration of the city forever. I could come cheer you on and then do fun Chicago things!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:40 pm

That would be so fun for you to come to Chicago! It sounds like a lot of people from the run blog community are planning to run Chicago or visit to spectate… as it gets closer I will need to plan something to make sure we can all meet up!

  5. January 9, 2015 / 9:37 am

okay! I’m {most likely} running Chicago this year too so we HAVE to plan a dinner or something together while we are there! 😀

  6. January 9, 2015 / 10:14 am

Wahoo, congrats!! I ran Chicago a few years ago… I think we just stayed at one of the “host” hotels that they recommended. If you book early, the prices are pretty cheap!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:41 pm

Thanks Lora! I’ve been checking on all of the host hotels and the rates are all pretty expensive for race weekend as compared to their normal rates, but I guess that is to be expected!

Maybe we’ll stay at the host hotel for race weekend and then move to a cheaper one, haha

  7. January 9, 2015 / 10:19 am

Hooray! That’s so exciting, I bet it feels great to know you’ll be working towards that over the coming months. You’ll love the flatter (than Portland) course too. Do be sure to let us know when your fundraising link goes live!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:43 pm

It’s funny, the more I think about Portland the more I romanticize the race. I know it was a total KILLER while I was out there, but now I think back on it so fondly. You are absolutely right though, I think I will like the Chicago course a lot more! The only thing that makes me nervous is that every couple of years they seem to get some really hot race day weather!

  8. January 9, 2015 / 10:59 am

Awesome news! You are going to have such a good time in Chicago. It’s a great city. Training will start soon enough, don’t worry 🙂 Enjoy the base building time and calf recovery until then.

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:43 pm

I’m glad I have a couple of half marathons to keep me occupied until training begins!

  9. January 9, 2015 / 11:09 am

I’ve been to Chicago once, and it was over 10 years ago, so I can’t really help with the details. If I were you, I would stay at one of the host hotels that offer a marathon discount. Plus, you know it will be close to the start and finish. Good call on not flying back the same day!

No huge plans this weekend. There will be a lot of football and cheering for my Seahawks. I have two big workouts, but no races. I don’t think I will be racing for a while, which is kind of weird! 🙂

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:45 pm

Whooo GO HAWKS, great game yesterday! It started off a bit slow, but the guys got it together!

We will definitely stay at one of the host hotels for the actual race weekend, but we may switch to a different hotel afterwards. The price gouging is real! haha

  10. January 9, 2015 / 11:24 am

Tink and Prilla (my pups) will want to donate to your cause! I am so excited for you–Chicago! Wow!
Can’t wait for my husband to get home tomorrow and for some football!!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:45 pm

Awwww that’s so sweet of Tink and Prilla 🙂 Thank you!

It’s been such a good football weekend so far!! Go Pats!

  11. January 9, 2015 / 11:36 am

Yay this is so exciting, I’ve heard amazing things about this marathon and it’ll be even better knowing you’re running for a good cause. You go girl!

Plans this weekend are a 16 miler (even though there is ice everywhere…nervous laugh…) and celebrating a best friends birthday = eating a lot of really really good food.

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:46 pm

That sounds like the perfect weeekend — a nice long run and lots of delicious food to re-fuel the body with!

  12. January 9, 2015 / 12:03 pm

So cool.!! I love that you’re combining running with the love of dogs 🙂 so sweet of you.

Chicago sounds soo fun. And good plan.! Definitely explore and enjoy the trip. You deserve it, especially after a marathon.!! Lots of deep dish pizza. Lol

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:47 pm

Exactly!!! Although for some reason after every race the only thing I tend to crave is a big burger. I’m sure there will be plenty of time for pizza though!

  13. January 9, 2015 / 2:00 pm

Hooray – glad that it is official for you to be headed to Chicago. Love that you are running for a great cause!! I think it is a great plan that you are going to stay longer in Chicago and make it a trip – fun!!!

    • January 11, 2015 / 2:47 pm

Exactly!!! Chicago is known for lots of good food that I just can’t pass up after running a marathon 🙂

  14. January 12, 2015 / 8:28 pm

Catching up on posts – I hopppppeee I get into Chicago!! Will be fun to plan right alongside with you as Ive never been there. I am excited about the pizza too!
