Currently #03

I’m getting pretty good at this running late thing! Last night I didn’t head out until 7:40ish and it didn’t feel weird. It sucks eating dinner at 9pm but other than that I’m in an oddly satisfying groove. I do hope to pull back a bit and start running around 7pm again when we get back from vacation though!

Since my run was pretty uneventful I thought I would write a CURRENTLY post. My blog dashboard just told me this is the third time I’ve hijacked Megan’s “currently” series (thanks Megan!).

Current Book:

NONE! I actually need to download an audio book for the long plane ride ahead of me tomorrow so I desperately need your recommendations! I’m looking for a good fiction book!

Current Music:

Screen Shot 2016-04-26 at 10.46.51 PM

I’ve been listening to a playlist from the 90s which includes hits like Two Princes, Gettin Jiggy Wit It, Gangsta’s Paradise and Baby One More Time! 🙂 I LOVE IT!

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Cadbury milk chocolate bar with hazelnuts imported from the UK!

Current Need:

Someone to come do my laundry and pack my suitcase! It’s actually my plan to do a load of laundry tonight that includes only the things I want to take on vacation. I shall take the items out of the dryer and place them directly into my suitcase!

Literally me:

Current Wish List:

That we could bring Cecil on vacation with us! Don’t worry he has a babysitter who will spoil him rotten all day and night but I’m going to miss him!

Current Most Annoying Celebrity:

Kylie Jenner. I don’t mind Kim, Khloe or Kourtney (mostly I don’t think about them at all) but there’s something about Kylie that annoys me!

Current Indulgence:

EVERYTHING I recently bought specifically for vacation 🙂

Current TV Show:

Do the NBA playoffs count? Also Mr. Robot!

Screen Shot 2016-04-26 at 10.47.41 PM

Current Food:

Eggs. I know it’s weird but I love a good egg.

Current Drink:

Okay, I don’t know why but the water coming out of our fridge tastes really weird! The water filter light is green so I don’t know what’s wrong but it tastes very metallic like!

Current Thing I Am Thankful For:

Getting to go on an awesome vacation with my favorite travel partner in the whole world!

Current Excitement:

48 hours from now I’ll be waking up in Barcelona!

What is your favorite throwback song from the 90s?
PLEASE recommend a really good book I can download to listen to on the plane! 🙂 Thanks in advance!

I still can’t believe how late you run. When you are finishing up and getting ready for dinner I am going to bed! Have you read “Fast Girl”? I thought that was really good. I also read “Things you won’t say” recently. I hope you have a great trip!!!

I have not read Fast Girl – thank you for the recommendation!!

    • April 28, 2016 / 9:00 am

I totally agree on this one. Fast Girl was good! Sooooooo very interesting. Who know such things existed/happened (well, not me)?

Kylie is annoying because she is really famous for no reason, and now she has a makeup line because she got lip injections.

The makeup line thing does bug me, esp. because it looks like she/her team tried to cheap out with those applicators!

I am a big procrastinator when it comes to packing too. I think it is a fear of commitment to the clothes that I will bring with me (which it funny, because I am no fashion diva!)
    Good reads:
Girl on the Train–not a new book, but I just re read it…
    Still Alice

I will write more once I remember…still haven’t had coffee

      Thanks very much Cheryl!

I pack EVERYTHING! Every time I have to put my suitecase on the scale I cross my fingers. I’m usually over by a tiny bit – just enough that they let it slide for free 🙂

    I looooove Two Princes!! 🙂

I agree w/ Cheryl- The Girl on the Train. I haven’t read it yet but I WANT to. And I heard really good things about it.

    Have a fabulous trip!!!

TWO PRINCES IS SUCH A GOOD SONG! I love running to it! Back in high school when I used to work at Walgreens I would get so excited when it would come on, which was often because it was in heavy rotation on Walgreens radio haha!

Thanks for the rec. on Girl on the Train!

Your late night schedule is crazy for me to think about. At 7:40 pm I am in bed, reading and so ready to crash out in the next 20 minutes! I agree w/ Cheryl that Still Alice is a great book (and a great movie, too). Rick and I always download a movie to watch on the plane. Last 2 trips have been Bull Durham (LOVE that movie so much) and Casino (can you believe I had never seen that?). I am like you….hate packing. Coming home, however, Rick and I crank it out immediately. Throw everything into the wash and put away toiletries we didn’t use. I am so thankful he helps me w/ that because I hate not getting it done right away.

Hahaha but you are an early riser! I got up today at 5am and I’m like …. struggling. A lot!

Thanks for the movie rec! I haven’t seen Casino either! I’ve seen parts of it but not all of it.!

Adam is SO GOOD about unpacking the minute we get in the door, whereas my suitcase sits half unpacked for weeks :-O!

  6. April 27, 2016 / 11:33 am

I kind of love packing. I always make a huge packing list and then lay everything out on my bed so I can make sure the suitcase is super organized. My husband like to just toss everything in a bag and it drives me crazy!

    Book recommendations:
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Follows a couple different story lines (that eventually cross paths) in WWII Germany and France. A bit of a tear jerker but not enough to ruin your vacation mood.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Romance-ish novel with witches and vampires. I remember you mentioning guilty pleasure vampire love for Buffy/Angel and Twilight, so you might like this as well.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. A nerdy introvert escapes real life drama (freshman @ college, divorced parents) by writing fanfic. Hilarious and nerdy.

Have so much fun on your vacation and share every single picture on instagram so I can pretend I’m in Italy too! I can’t wait to hear all about your trip!

Thanks so much for the book recs! I definitely want to read Discovery of Witches and Fangirl! Never heard of either but they are totally up my ally!

The other Jenner – Kendall? – is the only one of that group I don’t mind. She’s in the spotlight less but is a legit model. She also seems less self-involved.

I need a book too. My students have suggested some but I haven’t gotten around to picking them up yet.

Last night I ate dinner at 9:30. It was kind of nice to go straight to bed after lol!

When I was in Miami about a month ago, there was a water advisory because there was a nasty chemical spill. Not sure if this is still in place but I avoided tap water the entire week I was there. Maybe that’s why your water tastes strange?

    Enjoy your trip!

You and Adam pick really exciting places to travel! Can’t wait to see pictures!

I really enjoyed the 3 books I read recently, participating in the virtual run book club: Fast Girl, It Was Me All Along and Find A Way. Still trying to get through April’s selection How Bad Do You Want It, but it’s really good too!

  10. April 27, 2016 / 6:17 pm

When I pack for a vacation, I start a month before my trip. Yes, one month. I do a little each day and make sure there is time to go out and buy whatever I don’t have. This also allows me time to purchase a couple new outfits (as I ALWAYS do when I travel). Did you get any new cute outfits for your European adventure? I know you got a new bag. 😉

You will be on a plane over the ocean before you know it. Take lots of pictures so I can live vicariously through you.

  11. April 28, 2016 / 9:03 am

Have a fabulous trip!! I am a last minute packer too. I just can’t pack up a bunch of stuff because I use it daily, so I would be likely to forget it if half of my stuff was already packed! And I always pack several outfits, but usually end up wearing just a few of them. But the workout clothes *always* gets worn 🙂
