Daily Positivity

Recently it’s been brought to my attention that I have been kind of in a bad mood a lot. I believe it. I was stressed out by work, frustrated by not running and annoyed about my lack of sleep.

I definitely feel like I am making changes to help brighten up my days though. Today I thought I would share three things I’m doing to stay positive!

Look at memes and share them with friends!

One of my new favorite things to do at night is to take about 15-20 minutes to look at meme accounts on Instagram and send my favorite ones to my friends!

This is such a relaxing and fun way to end the night. It sounds silly and simple, and it is both of those things, which is why I’m LOVING IT.

Read my favorite blogs. 

When work picks up I slack on reading blogs, even my favorite ones. I now realize that when work is super busy staying connected to the blog world is even more important.

Sometimes the engagements I have with you guys are the only non-work related social activity I’ll have all day – besides hanging with Adam and Cecil of course.

Is that sad? lol oh well.

I think most people don’t have many social interactions during the week. We’re all tired when we get home and have those things we have to do: exercise, cook dinner, take care of the kids, walk the dog, play with the cat, etc.

Blogs make friendship so convenient! 😀

Plan trips! Even just local ones. 

During the first half of this year Adam and I didn’t really plan any vacations. We went on one week long cruise, which I am not taking for granted, but I want to do more exploring!

I really want to plan a lot more “long weekend” type trips throughout the rest of the year even if they’re just staycation kind of activities. It’s so nice to have something to look forward to.

For example, for 4th of July weekend Adam and I booked into a nice hotel on the beach. Sure the hotel is less than 2 miles from our house but it’ll be cool to be right on the water and to see the fireworks show from our balcony.

Just wish we could bring Cecil but don’t worry he’ll have someone staying with him and watching the house as well. He’s a high maintenance cat who doesn’t like to be left alone. He needs someone to open the chicken pâté and serve it to him.

I can’t with that little face! And that foot!

    I agree its hard to have much social interaction throughout the week other than with coworkers and people you live with. Im grateful for being able to keep in touch with blog friends so regularly! Even though blogging can be tough when life gets busy, I find that it really makes me feel better to interact and talk about fun stuff like running!

    I love the memes! You can totally IM or FB me them anytime! And don’t worry too much about being down. You are going thru a hard time. I totally get it. When I was in my brace and in the throws of my treatment I was not always in the best mood and I didn’t always want to be social (I know this sounds really dumb but my brace took away my joy…I had to wear jeans/tennis shoes for so long that honestly just getting out of it and wearing skinny jeans and cute sandals really lifted my mood! It sounds so silly but it felt like a prison to me). And during the week, I talk to my friends on the phone or text but I don’t really see them until the weekend. I go to bed/wake up so early, I am not really wanting to go out and be super social. That’s why I pack so much in on the weekend!

      I’m so glad you are out of the boot too! I know that must have been so frustrating from a mobility AND a fashion point of view. I’m glad you are on your way to being recovered. I knew as soon as the doctor told me compartment syndrome that I would go through a period being frustrated by not running but I really didn’t think it would be this bad. I figured, “ah well i haven’t taken time off running in years, maybe this will be relaxing/fine/good.” But it’s not! hah!

    I think it’s SO hard to be positive when you are dealing with an injury. Especially when physical activity is something that brings you a lot of happiness. All of the business books that I’ve been reading encourage practicing gratitude and writing things down that you’re thankful for. I did that last fall and it did seem to brighten my day!

    Now I’m going to try to find some cat memes to send to you on Instagram!

      I am doing a version of that! I’m not writing things down, but just this week I started a thing where I go on Pinterest every morning and look for a positive mantra for the day. Then when I feel like I’m getting down I repeat the mantra! So far it’s working but it’s only been two days haha!

    I agree that it’s hard to have social interactions as a working adult. It’s just not high on the priority list for most people our age.

    You’re going through a slump. It will pass. Being positive and cheering yourself up is great, but remember that it’s also okay to be cranky sometimes, too. No one is happy all the time. Just let yourself go through what you need to go through. Dealing with an injury and work stress is enough to sour the mood of even the most chipper people. You’ll get through it.

    What helps me every day to have at least one small thing I can look forward to. Sometimes it feels like, between running in the AM and dragging myself through the work day and then coming home to do house stuff, I just can’t get a break and that makes me cranky in a hurry. So I cling on to at least one little treat each day, no matter how small. It could be treating myself to Mexican or pizza for lunch, or having a glass of wine and going to bed early that night, or the fact that X work project will finally be done today, or that I can sleep in tomorrow morning because it’s a rest day, etc.

      Thanks Hanna, that is a good reminder! I just don’t want to be bringing the people around me down. Isn’t it like the easiest thing ever to create a bond over a shared complaint? I took your advice though and had a DELICIOUS lunch out today, including a nice big portion of coconut rice <3!

    Dang, I could go on for DAYS about the stuff that’s stressing me out. I’m a 99% happy person, but my busy life is bringing me down. I think I’m on the upside of it now though – looking forward to just spending time at home!
    I agree – love catching up on blogs and having bloggy friendships! They are always there when you need someone 🙂 I don’t look at any meme feeds, but I do have one FB friend who posts the funniest, and most inappropriate memes. I can pretty much expect him to lighten up the mood when everyone on FB is angry.

      Hahaha that’s awesome, I have one friend like that too who sends TOTALLY inappropriate memes but they do make me laugh!

      I’m glad that you feel like you’re on the upside now. I definitely feel similar, I am happy when I am at home!

    You should send me ALL the cat memes! I love them so much. I kinda like that idea to just relax a bit before bed. Usually just a slow walk around the park keeps me pretty happy. We have one about a half mile from our house and I go over there a lot just to destress.

    Never ever once have I thought of you of as being grumpy about this situation. You are always so sweet! Trying to find answers has to be annoying and we shouldn’t be afraid to share that. That is real, but you never complain.
    Blog friends are convenient! I have not been the best one lately…but I like to keep in touch. I have had a lot going on the past several years and I finally just had to step back.
    Blog friends are important though, they get how important I physical endeavors are to us 🙂
