Dreaming of Summer Vacations…

On Wednesday Adam and my main reason for going to Vegas got cancelled (it was an event Adam wanted to go to), so now we’re trying to come up with new vacation plans for May.

We might still go to Vegas … and maybe sooner than we were originally going to go. That would be awesome, because I am itching for a vacation!

We might also do something else… after last year’s cruise we kind of said we were done with cruising for a while, but looking through my old pictures the other day reminded me of how beautiful and sunny and relaxing cruising is!

Last summer we took Allure of the Seas for a 7-day spin that stopped in Jamaica, Haiti and Cozumel.

A few months prior we took Enchantment of the Seas to Key West and Cozumel.

The waters in Jamaica were beautiful and inviting.

In Haiti the waters were a deep ocean blue – the exact color you want your beach water to be!

And every trip I’ve taken to Cozumel has presented me with crystal clear water.

Cruising has a couple of really big benefits for us too:

1. Adam works for Royal Caribbean so we cruise really cheap.

2. We can sail out of the port in Fort Lauderdale which is literally a 5 minute car drive from where we live.

If we go to Vegas we have a long flight ahead of us. While I LOVE Vegas, I get bored on long plan rides pretty fast.

The downside? The weather tends to be even hotter in the Caribbean and last year running outdoors really tried to kill me even if the views were magnificent!

Running on the treadmill or on the jogging track is an option, but it also makes me a little seasick. You eyes see the waves going up and down while the boat is heading in one direction, but your legs are taking you in another direction and it really messes with your brain. Or maybe it’s just me?

Hmm decisions, decisions!

Do you have any fun vacations planned for this year?

Favorite vacation where the running was awesome?

Each summer we have gone to Isleboro, Maine and rented a house. It is a small island, you have to take a ferry and it is pretty “unplugged”. You have electricity and water–but no internet. The rocky Maine coastline is BEAUTIFUL, the island is fun to explore by running, short hikes and biking. It is hilly, but a dip in the ocean afterwards is an ice bath–the water is freezing! We like watching the tides from the deck, eating lots of great seafood (you literally call a guy and see him go out and pull up the traps–and bonus, he’ll steam them for you…). It’s not the “get a tan” type of beach, but more of a “sit and read in a sweatshirt” type–shorts and a t-shirt in the day and sweat shirt and fires at night (SMORES)….
There aren’t really any restaurants–but there are a couple of food stands that sell lobster rolls etc. It is so relaxing!
    I can’t wait to go back….

Wow, it sounds like an awesome vacation spot! I always get really anxious about unplugging during a vacation, but after a day or two without a constantly buzzing phone I feel so free and never want to turn it back on again! I think that’s one thing I really love about cruising, it forces me to completely disconnect.

That stinks that Vegas was cancelled. Those cruises look amazing, the Fiance and I have been wanting to take a cruise down south or up north to Alaska. Heard that one is amazing too. Just havent had the time or money to do it yet, plus we want to wait for the kids to be a bit older.

Our trips stay close to home usually a car drive away. In state or Cali. We are planning a cabin trip up north later this year to do some hiking, fishing, and outdoors stuff. Next year will be huge as we are planning a DC trip.

I haven’t been on an Alaskan cruise, but Adam went for work one time and said it was gorgeous! He went as a kid too, around 10 years old and had a blast. You can pan for gold and stuff like that which I think is fun for kids. Not sure how old yours are, but I think they would enjoy it at around that age!

LOVE Cali! I wouldn’t mind living over there one day to experience the other coast 🙂

Have you been to Vegas? You can go sit outside and lounge in a (fake) paradise! That was my main draw when I went last fall; I hated the casinos and all the craziness but I loved the pool action and the lazy river! There is always the Grand Canyon and excellent hiking just outside of LV if you rent a car! Or you can come to Colorado and I will show you around….:)

Yes, I’ve been a couple times and definitely enjoy lounging by the pool 🙂 Admittedly, I also really like the casino action too and get caught up in Blackjack 🙂

We really wanted to come to CO this summer but decided to extend our London trip by a few extra days. Since the plane tickets are pretty much the same cost whether we stay for 4 days or 7 we figured we might as well stick around and explore. I definitely want to get out to CO soon though!

I’m sorry Vegas was canceled! I hope you still go. I think it’s really cool you guys not only live so close to a port (no flying!!!) but also cruise for el cheapo. My favorite place to run while on vaycay was California. Well, first of all it was the only “real” vaycay we have been on, so that helps. But it was just so cool- running the San Fran hill and seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz in the bay. And then we drove North on route 1 and stopped at Stinson Beach. Paul chilled on the beach while I ran part of the Dipsea trail. It was SO GORGEOUS.

Ohh that sounds like a great vacation! I haven’t been out to California since I started running, which is probably a good thing since I think the hills would kill me. I remember driving through San Fran wondering how the car was even going to make it up such steep hills 🙂

That water looks amazing!!! Cruising sounds like the go I reckon. Sorry Vegas was cancelled (or the event there anyhow). What about ,wait for it… China?!

That’s cool you can cruise cheap! The pictures are beautiful 🙂 I have no plans yet. I usually go to see my mom in Montana once a year and that keeps us from vacationing together very much. I love Montana though, a fabulous place to run!

I love cruises too but we’ve decided to try out some new options. We don’t have anything planned for summer since WDW was our big vacation for the year. We are thinking of going to Dallas for a few days in November for BGG Con (nerd alert!) since it falls around the same time as our 5th wedding anniversary.

excellent put up, very informative. I wonder why the other experts
of this sector don’t understand this. You must continue your writing.
I am confident, you have a huge readers’ base already!
