Drop It Like a Squat

Last night was just a typical night in my gym. Three easy miles on the treadmill and then some squats and other weight stuff.

I’m still trying to figure out what the right max squat weight is for me right now. Last year around this time I maxed out at 150lbs, but that’s too much when I’m trying to work on running goals at the same time. Last night I did a warmup set and then 3X5 with 60lbs. I think I’ll work my way back up to 100lbs and stop there until marathon training is over in the fall. We’ll see……. I already feel sore from the 60s!

Yesterday we celebrated National Running Day, and today I am celebrating Pet Appreciation Week!

I adopted Cecil in November 2007 when he was three months old. Here are a couple of pictures from this first night home!

Cecil weighed just under 2lbs in these pictures, and he was feisty as can be!

Picture 5All throughout his first year he had an obsession with dragging my bras out of the laundry and fighting with them. I am so grateful he no longer drags them around the house… it was especially embarrassing when he would do it in front of guests!

He had so much energy as a young cat that I bought him a gym, and I used to take him out on a leash for walks.

Picture 1

He didn’t like the gym, and only played with it a total of one time. I was so disappointed because I thought he would love it!

cecilreflectsHe also didn’t really walk far on the leash, but he liked being outside sniffing around. I’m not sure why, but since we moved to Fort Lauderdale he hasn’t really liked going outside at all.

For a brief period of time Cecil allowed me to dress him up in little shirts. This one says “King of Hearts” on it : )

Picture 1 (1)But eventually he grew out of his clothes wearing phase too. My little nudist.

He knows he’s cute!

I celebrate Cecil this week and every other week because he’s my little baby cat and I love him.

I just really wish I could take him out running with me like people do with their dogs!

Did you have a pet growing up? What kind?

– I wanted a dog sooooooo badly but I am highly allergic so my parents got me a cat and I’ve been a cat person ever since!

Your little Cecil is so cute. I have 2 small dogs who bring lots of smiles to our faces, because they are sisters who are as different as night and day, who love each other, but nag each other too. They also put up with a lot from the kids–(dress up). They won’t run with me, but do a cool down walk with me after each run.

Aww that’s so sweet that you adopted them together! When I retire I am going to become a professional dog walker so I can take other people’s dogs out for walks/runs 🙂

I didn’t grow up with pets and we don’t have any now.
Cecil is pretty cute – bummer that he won’t play in that gym because it looks awesome!!!
And, walking your cat on a leash made me smile!!

Hahah well ‘walking’ might have been the wrong word. It was more like ‘taking a few steps and then flopping down for 5 minutes before taking a couple more steps’ 😀

Oh wow I didn’t know it was pet appreciation week. I didn’t grow up with pets that’s why we have dogs now, making up for lost time lol. Buster is my run buddy so we will have to get out tonight.

Ohhhhhh baby Cecil!!! so cute…I love the nudist comment LOL My cat used to go out and sniff too on a harness, but he would never walk. isn’t that funny how pets will target your clothes, my Junior steals dirty laundry out of my hamper and puts in the water bowl. This happens often when I am at work!

    • June 6, 2014 / 10:55 am

OMG that is hilarious! I can’t believe he puts your clothes in his water bowl. I guess he is trying to help wash the items for you since they are in the laundry and everything 😀

I looooove this post dedicated to Cecil! It seems like he would tolerate a lot more as a kitten than as an adult- shirts, leashes, and such! I tried to put Christmas and Jelly on leashes but it did not work at all. I also once put a cat jingle bell necklace color on Christmas but he FLIPPED OUT as if it was torture so that came off. Sometimes I put a sock on Jelly’s back and he’s so furry that he doesn’t even know it and he’ll walk around with the sock on him for awhile haha. I need to get a life!

C definitely put up a lot more with my crap when he was a baby — wearing the shirts and all. If I tried to do that today he would probably kill me in my sleep.

The sock thing is so funny! I love that!

i love the cat shirts! adorable! we always had cats, but for whatever reason now i definitely want a dog. i think it’s the whole “someone to run with” thing….

Exactly! I’m perfectly happy with my cat, but I SO wish I had a four-legged running buddy!

Love the little kitty pictures! SO CUTE! I can’t believe he allows clothes on him 😉

    • June 6, 2014 / 10:59 am

Cecil isn’t able to believe he allowed me to put clothes on him either. Now that he’s older he much more dignified and walks around naked.

Cecil was such a cute little bitty cat!!! (Now he’s a cute bigger cat!)

A friend of mine from school used to walk her cat, but Olive (the cat) would just go sit under a bush and relax when on the leash!
