Emergency Stop

I’m just gonna start today’s post off by saying it is not sponsored by Yurbuds earbuds. I’m sure they have no idea who I am, but I am so glad I know who they are!

For Valentine’s Day I got Adam a pair of Yurbuds and he’s been raving about them ever since, so I finally bought myself a pair.

These are seriously the best earbuds I’ve ever owned. They are guaranteed to never fall out and I believe it. I got sweaty during last night’s run and I shook my head all around and they never even budged. They’re also super comfortable and I didn’t feel like I had anything in my ears!

I just wanted to tell you since I know many runners are always looking for a great pair of earbuds! I bought these ones from Amazon – they are on sale for only $34 right now (free 2-day shipping with Prime)!

(You can also get them at Target, but they only carry the pink/white and red/black versions.)

I wore my Yurbuds last night during what turned out to be an annoying treadmill run. I only had three easy miles on the schedule and at 2.9 miles in I accidentally hit the emergency bar and the treadmill came to a dead stop!

Noooooooooooooooooooo! SO ANNOYING! I was so so so so close to being officially done!

Even worse, hitting the emergency stop automatically cleared all my data so I’m not sure what my exact time was. That is the most frustrating part since I like to know my numbers! Arghh!

The positive is that whole situation made me frustrated enough to knock out a plank PR!

I didn’t get the 3 minutes I was hoping for, but 2:30 is still a 30 second plank PR for me!

I really thought 3:00 would be possible after the three 1 minute planks over the weekend, but I guess those 20 second breaks in between really made a difference.

Oh well, it was fun to try!

Did you go for a plank PR yesterday? How did it go?!
Ever hit the emergency stop on the treadmill by accident? It scared the heck out of me!

I did go for the 1 minute plank and I made it! :]

As for the emergency stop I have done that before too… it sucks; mine was 1/2 mile into the run and it screwed me up for the rest of it.. so awful haha

    • March 18, 2015 / 8:06 am

      Whoo! Congrats on 1 minute!!

It’s been a while since I’ve hit the emergency stop and I totally forgot how jarring it is. I went crashing into the front of the treadmill, and when I looked around to see if anyone saw me some guy was definitely smirking! Oy! haha

  2. March 18, 2015 / 8:25 am

I hate when I press the emergency stop by accident OR when I accidentally tug at my earphones and my phone goes tumbling down (luckily I have the heavy duty …not so pretty… case). Congrats on the plank PR!

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:50 am

Oh man, I’ve DEFINITELY been there before with the phone going tumbling down. I use a Mophie case and that thing provides such good protection! It’s so annoying though because you have to decide if you want to break your flow and pause to grab your phone or just keep going without music (which is NO fun on the treadmill)! That’s like the biggest conundrum on the treadmill ever! haha

  3. March 18, 2015 / 8:50 am

Congrats on the plank PR! I didn’t do mine yesterday, unfortunately, I had a really busy day and didn’t get home til bedtime!

I would be SO MAD about the emergency stop that close, especially not knowing my time! I’ve had the treadmill stop on me in the middle of speed intervals. It’s so obnoxious because it really throws me off and it’s hard to get back into a rhythm after that.

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:52 am

Ah, those days where you don’t get home until bedtime are the worst… or at least they are for me. Hope today is calmer for you!

The treadmill stopping in the middle of speedwork is the worst! Power went out once while I was doing speedwork on the treadmill (not from the weather, just a power surge I guess); such a bad experience! haha

  4. March 18, 2015 / 9:03 am

Wait, was it like the day of the plank PRs or something? I missed that haha 🙁
Yes, i’ve done that a couple of times. SO SCARY! and probably one of the most annoying things that can ever happen while running on a treadmill..

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:53 am

Haha yes, I anointed yesterday as plank PR day! 🙂

I really think the emergency stop should gradually slow the treadmill down. That jarring stop is just awful, and could create an emergency on its own!

That would be annoying (and kind of scary) to hit the emergency stop. I don’t use the emergency key thing on mine–but I DO use it when the kids are having me quiz them with studying or spelling words, because I have almost fallen off by multitasking!
I know how annoying losing your data is too. Sometimes I shut the treadmill off before I log it in, and I forget it SO EASILY. One would think that because I have been staring at it for “X” miles it would be ingrained in my memory–Nope!
I did not do the plank–I had a crazy busy evening with the kids. (Perhaps I should have done it during one of my many waiting periods–like the orthodontist’s office–wouldn’t that have been a sight??? 🙂
    Good job on your time!!!

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:55 am

I KNOW! I know the time was 39:XX but not knowing the exact second means when I calculate my avg. pace that number is off too. Grr!

Planking in the orthodontists office would be great! If I saw someone doing that I’d be so amused!

Yurbuds are seriously the best running headphones I have ever used! I actually just got a new pair since my first pair was super old and the left ear bud decided to only make static noises instead of playing my music. The old pair did not have the magnets in them but I must say that the magnets are the best upgrade ever! Before races and such I would tuck my headphones through the strap of my sports bra and one time when I pulled them out I almost lost one of the ear things. But now with the new magnet system I just clip them together behind my neck and they don’t get tangled up with my clothes.

Seriously. Best headphones ever. And they never fall out.

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:57 am

YES! I love the magnets! I always tuck my earbuds into my sports bra strap too. I lost one of the covers that way at the Disney Princess Half last year and ended up having to run without music. Great tip to now clip the earbuds behind my neck! Thanks!

Woohoo! Plank PR! I decided to challenge myself yesterday as well… I made it 1 minute. I’m not awesome at planks, but that is also not a PR. I’ll chalk that up to still being in recovery mode.

The emergency bar is just one more thing about treadmills that kind of scares me. It’s just such a weird thing. Like, do I need an emergency bar? For what emergency? And what if I just hit it accidentally and it screws up the whole workout flow I had going? Like you I’d be so grumpy about losing the data.

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:58 am

Oh yes, you should definitely chalk that up to being in recovery mode! You just ran a sub-4 marathon!!

I have always wondered why someone would hit the emergency bar too. Like, how fast are you trying to run?!

  8. March 18, 2015 / 11:19 am

Hitting the emergency stop just means you were running so fast the treadmill couldn’t keep up!! 😉

  9. March 18, 2015 / 11:48 am

I have swung my hand wrong and hit that stupid stop button before – it is scary because it shuts off so quickly!!!
Great job on that plank PR!!!

    • March 18, 2015 / 11:59 am

YES! It really needs to gradually slow down instead of just flat out stopping! Imagine if you were sprinting really hard during speedwork and that thing came to a dead stop. You might go flying right over the front!

  10. March 18, 2015 / 12:19 pm

You turned a negative into a positive! That’s awesome. If it were me, I would have kicked the treadmill and left! Lol.

I do love the Yurbuds too, but I gotta say I love my wireless headphones. If only Yurbuds and Jaybird would hook up and make a product together…

  11. March 18, 2015 / 12:38 pm

After YEARS of searching for headphones that would stay in my ears, I came across Yurbuds and completely fell in love. They are hands down the best running headphones ever!! I have seen them at TJMaxx and Marshall’s recently for <$20.

  12. March 18, 2015 / 12:49 pm

Congrats on your plank pr! It’s your PPR.

I am intrigued by any ear bud that says they won’t fall out. I get the wrap around your ear kind because the buds ALWAYS fall out. But if these work, that explains why they can get $34 for them!

I currently need new headphones. Only the left side works right now.

  13. March 18, 2015 / 3:13 pm

Nice job on the plank PR!

I haven’t been on the treadmill much lately (since a year ago moved out of apt complex that had a gym – yesterday went to the parks & rec district rec center for the first in a long while), but when I did I definitely dropped my phone more often than I’d like to admit. I don’t even have a case on it (mostly hate making it even bulkier than it is), and I’m astonished I’ve never broken it.

I have a pair of yurbuds from Target, one of the cheaper versions, they don’t have the magnet or microphone, but they’re still pretty sweet. They definitely stay in waaaay better than any other headphones I’ve used, and I love them despite being pink.

  14. March 18, 2015 / 5:29 pm

I love YurBuds! I chose not to get the wireless because I wasn’t happy with their battery life, but I do like the normal kind. And OMG I hate accidentally hitting the emergency stop! It makes me almost go flying!

  15. March 18, 2015 / 6:22 pm

Thanks for the review! I don’t listen to music when I run mainly because I hate earbuds falling out. I need to get these!

    Congrats on your plank PR!!!

  16. March 19, 2015 / 7:02 am

I’ve heard great things about Yurbuds! I don’t run with music that much anymore, but if I did I would definitely invest in a pair!

  17. March 20, 2015 / 1:30 am

Ugh I feel for you!!! I’ve done that a few times in the last year, and a couple times I had been watching the tv in the gym so I had NO IDEA how far I had already run when I stopped it. It’s the worst! I’m like you and want the data!!

Great job on the planking!! We do 2 minute planks at the end of track practice, and I always have to take an occasional knee during the transitions. 2:30 is awesome!!

  18. March 22, 2015 / 9:45 pm

I’ve done that emergency stop a few too many times… why I don’t love running on the treadmill! Congrats on the plank PR- that’s awesome! I am working my way back up… currently I’m at 90 seconds. Will keep going! 🙂
