Faster Than Last Summer

Thank you to everyone for your kind words on yesterday’s post. I almost didn’t publish it because 1.) the situation was embarrassing and 2.) it felt very attention-seeking which isn’t what I intended it to be.

I’m glad I posted it though because it felt good to write it out. I’m the type of person that will hold something inside and let it build up until I explode with anger one day … and I need to do less of that!

1. This would be interesting. I actually think other runner’s would get the joke and find it funny!

2. This made me laugh. He should go on Maury.

3. Faster than Last Summer. The other night I was scrolling through my Garmin Connect dashboard to see what my pace was last year at this time. I’m certainly not breaking any speed records, but I am running on average 2.5 minutes per mile faster than last year at this time. Kinda crazy!

Basically, what I was doing last year at this time shouldn’t even be called running. I was a fraud! 😀

I am going to write a lot more about this soon, but it feels good to see the improvement! I really have to give a lot of thanks to my current coach because most of my gains have come in the short time that we’ve been working together. (Thank you Lauren!)

Random, but do you use Pinterest a lot?

– I feel like for my demographic, I really don’t use it much! If you use it, drop a link to your account so I can follow you. I want to start using it more!

Any fun weekend plans??

I just want to get in the pool and float around!

    I have never used pinterest…oddball, I know.
It would be hysterically funny to try and pass the relay stick to an unsuspecting runner!
No weekend plans…The kids are done with school, so it feels like everyday is the weekend, ahhhhh 🙂

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:02 pm

I really don’t see what’s so addicting about Pinterest… maybe it’s because I’m not the type to do a lot of crafts or cook fancy recipes!

You’re lucky that every day feels like a weekend! I wish I could sleep in a few extra days a week 🙂 Saturday and Sunday aren’t cutting it!

Sorry to hear about what happened yesterday 🙁 That is annoying! Unless you know this person is a mean person, I would try not to take it personally. Some people are really just clueless and lack the social skills to realize when they are saying something tactless. Some people really just aren’t good at thinking before they speak! Glad you are over it!

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:04 pm

You are so right. He’s a nice enough guy, just completely tactless!

I should have let it roll off my shoulders then and there… someday I’ll be able to do that!

  3. June 13, 2014 / 9:35 am

Definitely glad you posted yesterday and it did not come off as attention seeking at all. That idea with the stick is hilarious, I wonder what kind of reactions you would get lol. So awesome that you looked back in your garmin and noticed improvement. That’s why we are doing this right?!? Oh yeah and the fun part.

Weekend – all I keep thinking about is 13.1…13.1…13.1…ahhh I’m going crazy

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:05 pm

You are going to rock the 13.1 this weekend! I’m not nervous for you at all because I know you’re going to kill it!

  4. June 13, 2014 / 10:55 am

That guy just needs to be slapped. End of story.

Way to go on your noted progress over the year. Speed is something that a lot of people struggle to improve, so to improve by 2.5 minutes per mile says a lot about your dedication and motivation to get better. You are a rock star, Kristina.

This weekend I am going to lightly get back into training and hopefully go to a couple movies. There are so many I want to see!

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:06 pm

Hmm I would have liked to slap him just so he would think twice before ever saying that to someone again!

I hope to go see a movie this weekend too… maybe Neighbors!

I have never used Pinterist. I don’t understand it. I wish it actually started to feel like summer and we could do something like float in a pool. It has been raining, STORMING all week! 🙁

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:08 pm

Oh no ;( It’s been raining here all week too, but we’re supposed to have clear skies for the weekend!

Pinterest is a weird one. I think it’s for people who have a lot of time on their hands and aren’t sure what to do… when we have time on our hands we go running 🙂

  6. June 13, 2014 / 11:33 am

I used Pinterest when it first came out, but I quickly got bored of it. Maybe now that we’re buying a house I’ll use it more, but I just don’t have the time. I’d pin things and then never actually DO them.

Don’t all yourself a fraud for your slower days…remember, EVERYONE is a runner, no matter their pace! But I do love that you’re taking fewer walk breaks and running farther distances! It’s awesome how much faster you’ve gotten in just a year!

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:09 pm

You’re right! I felt like a runner back then, and I WAS running so I shouldn’t call myself a fraud. Thanks for the reminder!

I can’t wait to hear more about the house! I am house hunting right now, so I’m want to hear all the details 🙂

    • June 13, 2014 / 3:10 pm

Thanks Kris! Since I increase my pace just little by little, it was easy for me to forget where I was a year ago.

I hope you end up doing something really fun this weekend!

  7. June 13, 2014 / 4:36 pm

Hey if you were a fraud, it got you to where you are now. Progress is progress, NOT a fraud!

  8. June 13, 2014 / 6:01 pm

Congrats on your awesome running improvement! I second what Amy said: definitely NOT a fraud!

I have never used pinterest either (or twitter etc – am kind of slow on the uptake with technology. I know, blogger fail yes?)

Oh floating around in the pool sounds wonderful. Me? No set plans as such – am just off for a light/easy/test run around the river/town, and maybe we’ll catch up with some friends we haven’t seen in a while.

    Enjoy yours Kristina!

ps – def wasn’t attention seeking and I think it is good to write/talk about it so you can vent/feel better! All good 🙂

  9. June 13, 2014 / 6:53 pm

I mostly use Pinterest for recipes and workouts!
2.5 minutes per mile is a huge improvement – you should be very proud!!

  10. June 15, 2014 / 11:02 am

lorraine3168 is my Pinterest name if you want to follow me. If you want to lose weight.. don’t go on Pinterest.. it makes me extra hungry for junk! It’s great for party ideas, gifts, looking at cute animals.

Don’t listen to that jerk and his stupid comment. Remember running makes you strong! Use that to run all over him.. ;0) and yes we all come across those people who make comments that are hurtful. It’s good to vent and I’m glad you were able to share as we’ve all been there.

  11. June 15, 2014 / 11:23 am

um, 2.5 minutes per mile is HUGE. that is so impressive girl!

i’m not huge into pintrest. i only “pin” things that i’m actually going to do. i browse it a lot and i’m always a little overwhelmed with how much stuff my friends are pinning. makes me kind of tired 🙂

  12. June 15, 2014 / 11:48 am

Oh the cat cartoon cracked me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on the improvement, enjoy that feeling 🙂 That’s a lot of speed gain! We all have to start somewhere, I am not very speedy and I am getting slower these days, but I am trying to be okay with that and appreciate the present 🙂
