Feeling Like a Well Oiled Machine

WOW, getting back into the swing of blogging after a short digital detox is hard! It feels a little bit like when you come back from vacation and haven’t been to the gym in a few days. I’m looking around like, “what am I supposed to do now?”

I was terrible at taking photos and videos this weekend, but I had the BEST two days of running that I’ve had in a month! There was a big boat show going on all weekend which made traffic a nightmare at all times, so I ran on the treadmill both Saturday and Sunday. I was fully expecting to hate every minute of indoor running but I actually loved it!

I did 5 easy miles on Saturday and 8 easy miles on Sunday for a total of 13 on the weekend. The most incredible part was that my body felt amazing. I had no back aches, no hip tightness, no calf or foot tingles… I felt like a well oiled machine for the first time in a very long time!

The Michelob Ultra Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon is this coming Sunday and I am very much looking forward to it. I don’t have high expectations for the race since I haven’t done a solid double digit training run since back in September, but I know I have the base to at least complete it for fun. 

If it were any other race I might consider skipping it, but this half marathon is very close to my heart. Three years ago it was my very first half marathon and God willing I intend to run it every year for the rest of my life. Training for this race three years ago completely changed me as a person, and last year I earned a 35-minute course PR on it. I just love this race!

This half marathon is also the first race I’ll run as part of the Florida Storm Series of races. I’ve wanted to participate in the Storm Series for a couple of years and I am looking forward to finally earning one of the below medals by completing 3, 4 or 5 of the races in the series.

I’m very glad that my body seems to cooperating with me now since I am almost ready to start training for the A1A Half Marathon. I’m planning to run the half for fun this weekend, take a rest week next weekend (since it’s Adam and my anniversary) and then start Week 1 of “get a half marathon PR” training on November 23rd. That will give me just about three months to go after some big goals at the A1A Half Marathon in February.

Oh, and have I mentioned I have a new training partner? Garmin Connect made this cute cat watch face available and you know I downloaded it right away!

That cat moves and randomly moves off of the screen and then pokes his head in from the bottom or the sides of my Garmin when he feels like saying hi! How cute is that?

Cecil may be a little jealous of this new cat in my life because he stuck to me like glue all weekend.

I hope you had a great weekend too. Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend, and congrats to the Bills for once again slaying the Dolphins. Ugh.

    Woo hoo! Boy 5 and 8 miles sounds great – i’m hoping to increase my mileage this week as long as the quad continues to feel good 🙂 Love the Garmin background.

    That is so cool that you live in a place that has a race series. I would have to travel far… like California far… to find something like that. Florida obviously knows what’s up in the running world.

    This weekend we discovered that our cat Benny has redirected aggression. He actually flipped a switch and started attacking us. Thank goodness Axel was safe in the other room. It has happened before, but this time it was really scary. We aren’t sure what to do yet but we are talking with our vet tomorrow. I really hope there is a treatment for it, as it is not safe for Axel. It’s breaking my heart.
