Figured It Out

Hey! Want to know a secret? Next week is my last full week of work. My office closes on Christmas Eve and doesn’t re-open until the first Monday after New Year’s. There are a million things to do before then, so we must press onward until the 24th!

It seems like the evenings seem to be getting shorter and shorter right now. South Florida has been getting hammered with rain which has added a good 30 minutes to my commute each way. The last two days I haven’t gotten back to Fort Lauderdale until after 7:30pm.

Last night I had five miles on the schedule which meant I didn’t get done running + stretching until almost 9pm. It’s not the world’s best schedule, but it’s mine and I’m coping! Truthfully after sitting in traffic for 90 minutes running felt AMAZING. Like, really, really amazing.

Since I didn’t get down to the beach until pretty late I told myself it was okay if I didn’t run the full five miles. Initially I thought “I’ll just run for 30 minutes.” Then it was “I’ll just run an easy 5K,” which was followed by “Wellllll, maybe I’ll do four miles” but when I got back to my car at mile four I just wasn’t ready to be done, so I headed back out for another mile.

I honestly felt like I could have run a half marathon last night, but after just five miles it was almost 9pm and I figured I better go home and see Adam and C-cat.

Up until last night I wasn’t sure how I was going to handle training this week since I have the Cape Coral Half Marathon this coming Sunday. While it’s not a race that I’m trying to PR at, I do have a time goal for it: 1 minute per mile faster than the Fort Lauderdale half.

Based on all of my recent runs I feel like unless something crazy happens that goal is in the bag. That being said I want to give myself the best chance possible to hit my time goal because I know it’ll give me confidence heading into the Miami Half. I’m not hoping to PR there either, but I do hope to get very close to the half PR that I set in January which is about 2 minutes per mile faster than I ran Fort Lauderdale last month.

Coming back from injury sure does require a shift in mindset. I never thought these old paces would be goals ever again.

Anyway, during my run last night I decided on what I’m considering the perfect plan for the week. I’m going to do all of the mileage that my training plan calls for this week, but I’m going to run/walk it all. I’ll also replace speedwork day with easy mileage and I won’t do any lower body strength training. This will allow me to feel like I’ve had a good week of training while still ensuring my legs are fresh enough for the half.

When I got home from my run last night I had a package waiting for me – new candles from Bath & Body Works! I ordered these guys for just $9 ea. on Cyber Monday and they smell amazing!

If you want to catch up on my full day yesterday you can check out my latest vlog:

^ Please note I edited this video at midnight last night since I got home from my run so late. Sorry if it feels disjointed (more than normal)! 🙂

I hope you have a great rest of the day!

What’s one thing you’re really looking forward to before 2015 ends?

So jealous that your office closes for a week! This is the crazy time of year at my work and I have a huge looming deadline at the end of December, so I’d have to say that what I’m most looking forward to right now is being done with this project!

Ahh, stressful deadlines at the end of the year are the worst, but just think about how free you’ll feel when it’s done. Also, I highly recommend treating yourself to something special 🙂

Cecil is so adorable! My cat also likes to chew of tape and anything plasticy. Last night I had to take a candy cane wrapper away from her…she’s such a weirdo.

My office is also closed 24th-January 3rd. Ugh that holiday time can not come soon enough! Just 11 more days of work…

I’m counting down the days with you!

Cats and plastic … it’s like they’re magnetically drawn to each other!

I think that you have a really smart plan in place for this week’s training. I feel like I never really consider just turning speedwork into an easier run to ease things up, but I definitely should. It would allow me to get some extra rest while still getting in some exercise and miles.

This is the first time I’ve ever considered it! Usually I’m all or nothing on speedwork day, but since I had low mileage last week I really want to get in decent mileage this week, even with the race on Sunday.

Thank you! 9pm is definitely later than I would have liked it to be, but we had one night of cool-ish weather roll in and I just had to take advantage of it! 🙂

Your race is going to be awesome this weekend! So fun the Meg is joining you. You have a good plan to finish out your week before the race. Minimize the chance of injury! – good to hear that you felt full of energy for your run last night. Keep it up to rock that race this weekend!

Great plan for this week, I think you will be good to go on sat.

I want to bag a couple new summits before the year is out. Just have to plan better so I’m not taking any more scenic drives lol.

I tried posting a comment last night but Paul’s computer decided to shit the bed right as I hit enter! So I will try to recreate the comment. 🙂 First, Cecil looks so stoic in that pic and he is sooooo cute in the video! 🙂 I remember those throwback scents of B&BW. In middle and high school gym class, the “cool” thing to have in the locker room was plumeria or country apple. I think I had a peach scent.

AHHHH YES! The gym locker room was such a nightmare for me in those days because all of the scents melded together and my allergies would go NUTS. I would sneeze and sneeze and sneeze!

My office is closed for the same time, so most people take off after the 18th to have 2 full weeks off. I’m not doing that, so the office will be really dead the week of Christmas, which gives me a chance to catch up on things. I heard about all the rain in the news! Glad you worked out a good strategy for your race week. Good luck!
