Fun in the Sun!

It’s FRIDAY, arguably the best day of the week! I love Fridays because you still have the whole weekend ahead of you. Last Friday I was on my way home from the sunniest place in the world, La Romana.

I had so much fun beach bumming around, finding interesting things inside the gym and drinking lots of piña coladas to stay cool under the Caribbean sun!

Now that vacation is over I am laser focused in on Chicago. In June and July I ran a lot of miles on the treadmill which kind of felt like cheating since I had the a/c and a bathroom at my disposal. I’m done with the ‘mill and I am now back to outdoor running 100%!

When the humidity is low and there’s a breeze coming off of the ocean, my beach is one of the very best places to run. I am falling in love with it all over again after time away!

This weekend I’ve got my longest run of the training cycle so far: 16 miles! I can’t wait to get this longer run under my belt and to hopefully feel like I’m really training for a marathon! You know I like those long runs :).

Long runs are great for so many reasons: the feeling of accomplishment at the end, the way food tastes 10X better when you finally dig in and the amazing guilt-free nap you can take afterwards! Honestly, what’s not to love about the long run?!

I’m looking forward to it, but first I need to crack on with Friday… I hope you have a great day!

How many miles do you have on tap for this weekend?

PS: Guess what? Cecil has turned 8! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best son I could ever ask for!

Cecil, I am so proud of everything you have accomplished so far – like (almost) catching the red dot, sleeping 10 hours straight and mastering super advanced yoga poses 🙂 .

I love the post run long nap–except I still feel guilty!
Have a fun 16 miles–I have 14 on tap. This is our last weekend before school starts on Monday :(. I am ready for summer to be over, but not for back to school!

I am sure – I know that drive must be a bit annoying. Schools started back this week down here – the traffic instantly got 10X worse. I love summer because everyone vacations and the traffic on the highway gets so much better.

Hope you have a great 14-er and that you have time to follow along with UTMB!

Enjoy your long run this weekend! I have a 10k on Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday. I will definitely need lots of food and a nap or two:)

Thank you! Good luck at the race – not that you need it! 🙂

Happy birthday Cecil!! Aww. 8 years!

I guess we will have to agree to disagree about long runs. I hate them. How anyone can look forward to them is beyond me! It does feel great to be done with them, but I hate what a time suck they are and how I spend the rest of the day feeling sore and drained. One day some runner scientist will get rich after finding a way to run a fast marathon without needing long runs, and I will die a happy woman!

    Have a great weekend!

Hahaha I love long runs because you don’t have to worry too much about pace (except for the final couple of miles if you’re doing a fast finish). I like how you can just relax into them and zone out for a little bit! They are definitely a time suck though. If I had kids I don’t think I could be a marathon runner … or I would have to get 10 times faster in a hurry!

HA! “The food tastes 10X better when you finally dig in” – so true! Good luck this weekend on your 16-miler! I’m sure it is going to feel really good to have that one in the bag. Happy Birthday, Cecil! My cat Benny “almost” catches the red light every evening before bed. It definitely helps him sleep better. 🙂

Awww Benny! Cecil gets soooo tuckered out from the red dot game now. When he was younger he could chase the dot all day, but now he lasts about 3 minutes before he is ready for bed, haha!

Happy Birthday Cecil!!! I am sure you got a ton of bday hugs, cuddles, and treats. 🙂

I really enjoyed your vacation videos! It really makes me want to go somewhere tropical. 🙂

On Cecil’s birthday his big gift is getting to replace one meal with a bowl of freeze dried chicken treats – his favorite! 🙂

I feel so bad for Sage! It’s a good thing the injury doesn’t sound too bad. I wonder which race he’ll choose as his next 100 miler!
