Ghost Kitchen and a Long Run That Got Cut Short

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend!

Last week my mileage was quite low at only 13 miles (whaaat :-O )!

Sadly I took an extra rest day on Friday and cut my run short on Saturday because of my super tight hamstring.

On Sat. I stopped to drink some water after mile 5 and the hammy cramped up pretty good : (. After stretching it felt MUCH better, but I’ve never felt a cramp like that before!

A sweaty selfie while stretching in the gym post-run. If there’s no picture the run didn’t really happen, right? #BlogRules

Saturday night Adam and I went to a little surprise party with friends and family to celebrate his 30TH BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADAM!!!!!!!

I’m a bad blogger and instead of taking a lot of pictures, I drank a lot of wine instead. Oops!

I did manage this grainy picture right after Adam blew out his candles! It’s hard to believe I met him right after he turned 20. It’s been a good decade!

One of Adam’s gifts that came in the mail was a big package from Omaha Steaks. The food comes packed in dry ice, so naturally we had to mix it with water for a nice Halloween effect!

(I can’t believe that ^ is what my voice sounds like….. just AWFUL! Blog friends be glad that you don’t know me in real life so you don’t have to hear that every day!)

Another one of Adam’s gifts was a Go Pro! He says for the first video he wants to film us running down to the beach and then diving straight into the water (the Go Pro can film under water)!

I can’t wait mostly because this means he’s going to run with me, even if only for a few minutes! 😀

All in all it was a great weekend, my hamstring issue is annoying, but I know it will get better. It has to because I have a bunch of races coming up!

Speaking of races, CONGRATS to Cheryl on finishing her first marathon and BQing!!!! Whoo!

Go congratulate Cheryl and please leave a comment here telling Adam that his 30s will be great! Now he can brag that he’s with a young 20-something ; )

Happy birthday, Adam! The 30s really are good, I promise 🙂
I love that you got to play with dry ice! So fun. And we all opt for more wine, less pictures. Life is much better that way 🙂

  2. October 27, 2014 / 6:14 am

OMG I want a Go Pro so badly. Please post some of your filming adventures! Happy birthday, Adam!!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:22 pm

      I WILL!

We aren’t naturally very adventurous people so we will have to think up some fun things to do with the camera!

  3. October 27, 2014 / 7:27 am

Happy Birthday Adam! What a cool (pun intended) birthday idea with the steaks 🙂 Scary about the hamstrings, hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:23 pm

      Hahaha, good one! 😉

I hope it doesn’t happen again, too! I’ve had a foot cramp and a calf cramp before but never a hamstring one. I’m probably just being a big baby about the whole thing, but it didn’t feel great!

  4. October 27, 2014 / 7:53 am

Happy Birthday to Adam! Very cool camera 🙂 I had a horrible hamstring cramp last year, when I tried to stretch it tightened even more, it was crazy painful. Thank goodness it never came back. Hopefully the light mileage and a little break will cure that for ya! No new issues, you do have a bunch of races coming 🙂

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:24 pm

I am VERY glad to hear that the cramp never came back! That’s the best news I’ve read all day!

  5. October 27, 2014 / 9:23 am

Happy birthday Adam! Go Pro, so jealous. Lots of wine may mean bad blogger but it also means you had a good time lol.

OMG thanks for ruining the reveal of cheryls run for me lol.

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:24 pm

Oops! I should have put up a spoiler alert… although you just KNEW she would knock out the BQ! There was no doubt!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:25 pm

      Thank you! Me too!

It’s feeling good today so fingers crossed it’s all healed now!

  6. October 27, 2014 / 11:26 am

Other than the hamstring issue sounds like a great weekend!!!
Happy 30 to Adam! The 30s are great and the 40s even better:)
    Love y’alls fog!!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:29 pm

I am glad to hear that!!!! I’m excited to join him in the dirty thirties. Don’t they say women peak in running during their mid-30s to mid-40s?!

  7. October 27, 2014 / 12:20 pm

Happy 30th Birthday, Adam! I find that every year just gets better, so enjoy! Hopefully the hamstring issue was a one-time thing.

  8. October 27, 2014 / 12:23 pm

Happy Birthday, Adam! I agree with Kim, the 30’s are great, 40’s MUCH better! I am glad you enjoyed the party, sometimes it’s better just to be present, without the phone/camera!
Dave and Hunter take some pretty cool movies skiing–although sometimes I don’t want to see all the shenanigans! They can be reckless.
Take the time to let your body heal from the marathon! It hasn’t been that long!
I should get some dry ice, my kids would get a kick out of seeing that!
Thanks for the shout out! WE DID IT!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:31 pm

WE DID IT! I can’t believe our marathons are both over now. Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday that we were starting to train?

The dry ice would be fun on Halloween to add an extra spooky effect to the evening!

  9. October 27, 2014 / 1:26 pm

Happy Birthday Adam! Wow 10 years together – you guys give me hope for relationships!
Cramps are the worst, I used to get the worst calf cramps – I would literally have to stop during my run stretch it out and then stop after another 10 metres, not fun at all.

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:33 pm

Our ten year anniversary is next month, November 19th! : )

That’s so awful about your calf cramps! I’ve gotten then before too, they are terrible!

  10. October 27, 2014 / 1:52 pm

This post makes me so happy. Happy Bday, Adam! Naturally I have to ask what Cecil thought of the dry ice. I like hearing blogger’s voices! Remember, I sound like I am 12!! I hope your hamstring gets better. When mine was tight once after a race and would go away, I went for ART from my chiro and he rubbed it out like it was a tube of toothpaste with just a tiny bit left in. It hurt, but my hammy was brand new the next day!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:35 pm

We took a little chunk of the dry ice and put it in a cup on the floor for Cecil to check out – he was curious but I don’t think he liked all the fizzing noise. He sniffed the cup a bit and then flopped down on the ground a few feet away — keeping a close eye on it while acting all nonchalant about the whole thing 😉

I keep hearing about ART on everyone’s blogs, I need to get in on this simply because I have FOMO!

      • October 28, 2014 / 6:22 am

I totally had to google FOMO hahaha. Well, you should want to miss out and NOT need ART hahaha. It’s not the cure all but sometimes there is just a really right muscle or scar tissue that needs breaking up and the ONLY way to get it is via deep tissue massage. I have not gone for ART in over a year, but the biggest thing it helped me with was my hamstring (that ONE time), plantar fasciitis (I had a RIP ROARIN’ CASE) and I used to go for my knee. Too bad you can’t come see my chiro. He was hot. Whenever I would recommend him to my runner friends, they would text me afterwards and say, “You didn’t tell me he was hot!” hahaha.

  11. October 27, 2014 / 4:40 pm

Happy Birthday, Adam!! And awesome that you guys have been together for 10 years! John and I got married last year but have been together almost 9:) can’t wait to see an awesome gopro vid!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:37 pm

That’s awesome! I love hearing about other couples that have been together for a long time, too! 🙂

We’ll have to work on a plan for the GoPro vids! We’re not naturally adventurous people so we have to work up the courage to do cool things, haha!

  12. October 27, 2014 / 7:07 pm

    Happy Birthday Adam!

As much as I would have enjoyed photos, I support your decision 100%! I totally would have done the same thing. Wine > photos, everytime.

  13. October 27, 2014 / 7:09 pm

Happy Birthday to Adam!! Haha I was a terrible blogger this weekend too and drank beer instead of taking pictures, whoops… 😉

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:40 pm

Oct. 25 – 26, 2014: The weekend Courtney and Kristina celebrated their marathons by making the good decision to drink wine/beer instead of taking pictures!

  14. October 27, 2014 / 7:51 pm

Happy Birthday, Adam!!! Welcome to the amazing 30s. You’ll never want to go back. 🙂 Plus, you now have an awesome new GoPro that will forever change your life. Really, it’s true. Can’t wait to see pictures soon, as I imagine that you will share every once in a while with Kristina.

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:45 pm

Adam better share with me! I have big plans for that Go Pro!

I want to show everyone my awesome beach running route and I want to somehow attach it to Cecil so I can see what he does all day while I’m at work 🙂

  15. October 27, 2014 / 9:27 pm

Happy Birthday Adam!!!! 30s are the new 20s! It will be great! Don’t worry about the low mileage…it happens, Just watch that hamstring and if it doesn’t get better get someone to look at it sooner rather than later (learn from my mistakes).
I hope it feels better soon!!!

    • October 27, 2014 / 9:43 pm

Thanks LeAnne! As the Fort Lauderdale half creeps closer I am getting nervous. I know the plan was always just to run this one for fun, but I still want to PR over my time from last year! #HammyStress

  16. October 27, 2014 / 9:57 pm

Sometimes cutting a run short is just necessary. Glad you played it safe!

    Happy 30th, Adam!

  17. October 28, 2014 / 7:55 am

Wine and pictures can make a dangerous combination!!! I was scared of 30 now I am just really shocked as to how weird it is to say that I am 30 something!! I don’t feel it (most days)!! Omaha steaks are ridiculously good! They truly make me happy!

  18. October 28, 2014 / 10:07 am

So jealous of the camera! :O You better steal it from him every once in a while haha 😀

I really hope your hamstring will get better asap.. Maybe you should get a doctor to look at it if it doesn’t get better soon. I love, love, LOVE hearing the voice of bloggers :3
