GOALS for the Miami Half on Sunday

You may have to admit to yourself that you have a bit of an Amazon problem when you come home after only being gone for two days and this is waiting for you.

If you’re around my age PLEASE tell me you got that reference and just sang the rest of Mailtime song from Blue’s Clues in your head!

Ah, the good ol’ days!

One of the boxed items that arrived was my RW Cookbook!

Thank you to everyone who commented earlier this week with your cookbook recommendations. The RW book ended up with the most votes so I went with and I can already tell I am going to like it.

Any book that starts by describing me so perfectly (“runners love to eat”) is my kind of book!

Today I was planning to do a whole post on Miami Half prep since the race is this Sunday, but truthfully I have not done anything to get ready yet!

I kind of, sort of have an idea of what I’m going to wear:

Who needs a top anyway?

My goals? Well, let me just throw ’em out there:

A.) 2:59 (I achieve an exciting PR)
B.) 3:05 or less (I get in a decent training run)
C.) Finish with a smile (I finish half marathon #4)

I wasn’t planning to go for my A-goal this time since I had been dealing with a calf issue, but the weather is going to be SO NICE on race day that I don’t know if I can pass up the opportunity to try for a PR.

This time next month when I’m running the A1A Fort Lauderdale Half it could be 80 degrees. Heck, YESTERDAY it was 80 degrees! This cold front that’s rolling in and bringing the temps down to the 60s on Sunday is really too good to be true.

I don’t know if a PR will be in the cards on Sunday since my longest run in the past two weeks has only been nine miles but I’ll give it a try!

Have a great weekend!
Anyone have a BIG run on tap this weekend? A race or a really long run?

Good luck this weekend! It would be awesome if you got your PR but either way have fun and enjoy the good weather!

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:03 am

Thanks, Lisa! Two out of the three half marathons I’ve run so far were on the same course, so I’m excited to try something new this weekend!

  2. January 23, 2015 / 6:19 am

My biggest goal for Miami is to have fun and finish under 3 hours. I’m trying a new run:walk interval right now so I’m going to be using that the entire time and hopefully that will keep me on track. There is so much entertainment along the course and I hear the route is beautiful so I don’t want to miss out on anything fun by focusing so much on my time. For my first half my goal was to not die, the second & third ones were PRs, so I’m taking it “easy” with my first race for 2015. Plus I have both Miami Beach and Sarasota in March (so PR opportunities are on the horizon).

I love your skirt! I hope you have a great race 🙂

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:04 am

You will accomplish your goal NO PROBLEM-O!

I didn’t realize you were doing Sarasota too! Very nice! So you’re going to get the Cat 5 medal right?!

  3. January 23, 2015 / 7:38 am

I love Amazon!! The RW cookbook is amazing!! And runners do love to eat!
I do find it funny that you said cold front and 60’s in the same sentence…oh if that were true for me!!! Pure bliss!!
I am sure you will do absolutely wonderful at your race, and I know that I can’t wait to read a recap!!!

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:04 am

Hahaha the low 60s were predicted but now I hear it might even dip into the upper 50s!!! SO LUCKY that this cold front is coming through!

  4. January 23, 2015 / 7:43 am

Good luck and have fun! Cant wait to hear about it 🙂

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:05 am

Thanks Jenny! I think you should plan to come do this race a third time next year and we can run it together!

      • January 25, 2015 / 10:19 am

Maybe next year!!! Just saw our results WOOOO HOOOOEYYYYYY!!

  5. January 23, 2015 / 8:30 am

I have kids, totally got the Blues Clues reference. Great goals, when I’m in between race goals I plan for my B goal then gauge where I’m at during the run. Feel good after 3, kick it up a bit. Can’t wait to see your race report.

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:06 am

That sounds like a really good plan. I haven’t gotten my race day plan from my coach yet but I do think that I’ll start conservative and see where the day takes me!

  6. January 23, 2015 / 9:37 am

Good luck this weekend! I don’t know how you train in Florida, hehe. I’m not a warm weather person at all, and despite the fact that it gets really cold here, I would take 20 degree weather over 80 degree weather any day! MAJOR props for running on RACE DAY with those kinds of temperatures!

(Apparently I’m all about the caps lock this morning and I haven’t even had any coffee yet!)

I also love Amazon Prime. No Amazon boxes will be waiting for me today, but I think my new running vest that I got during the Brooks Running sale should be at my door by the time I get home.

Is that one of the Sparke Athletic skirts?

    • January 23, 2015 / 11:07 am

I *think* I would take a 20 degree day over an 80 degree day too … IF I could manage to get myself out the door on a 20 degree day!

It is one of the Sparkle Athletic skirts! I ran in the red and white polka dot one during the Princess Half last year and really liked it so I ordered this teal one (it looks green in the lighting, but it’s the teal one) about a month ago. I love that they are so reasonably priced!

  7. January 23, 2015 / 9:53 am

Good luck with your race this weekend!!

I can’t wait to hear what you think about the RW cookbook — it’s on my wish list!

    • January 23, 2015 / 9:57 pm

Thanks! I’m gonna go through and pick out a couple of new recipes to try each week! I’ll definitely blog about them!

  8. January 23, 2015 / 10:06 am

Good luck – I can’t wait to hear all about the race!
Super cute skirt – hope you share a picture of you in your race day outfit!

    • January 23, 2015 / 9:57 pm

      I definitely will!

I want you to see the actual pretty color of the skirt. For some reason the lighting made it look green but it’s really a super pretty teal!

  9. January 23, 2015 / 10:47 am

…it makes me wanna wag my tail….oh my gosh, of course I got that. And I think I just hit every note while singing it out loud.

GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND – PR or no PR, it’ll be awesome.

  10. January 23, 2015 / 11:49 am

Go get it on Sunday! I wonder if we can track you!?

  11. January 23, 2015 / 12:30 pm

Go get ’em, and have fun! Sounds like great weather! LOVE the skirt!

  12. January 23, 2015 / 12:53 pm

I loved Blue’s Clues! And also love your running skirt! Good luck and have fun this weekend!

    • January 23, 2015 / 9:59 pm

Thank you! 🙂 You have the best running fashion sense so I will definitely take that compliment on the skirt!

  13. January 23, 2015 / 3:05 pm

Much luck to you on Sunday! 😀 If you feel like it on Sunday I think you should aim for that A-goal 😉 I bet you’ll have an amazing time no matter what though 😀

  14. January 23, 2015 / 6:43 pm

Good luck this weekend! The skirt is super fun. I know you’ve been having some calf issues and haven’t been running a ton, but that might actually set you up for a good chance at a PR. You’ll be super well rested and the weather will be perfect. Don’t forget that all of the running you’ve done in the last 6 months to train for Portland and to get stronger after that will all prepare you for an awesome race, even if the last few weeks have been restful!

I’ll be heading out on an 18 miler on Monday… it’s getting close to crunch time for my March marathon!

    • January 24, 2015 / 11:48 am

So exciting!!! Rest those legs up and enjoy your weekend for the upcoming 18!

Thanks for the pep talk, I will definitely be replaying your comment in my head during the race!

  15. January 23, 2015 / 8:38 pm

    Good luck on Sunday Kristina!

So glad you chose the RW Cookbook. Hopefully we’ll get to see your feedback and recommendations on a few recipes in the near future?

Not sure the weather will drop too much more before the race, but hope it goes well. Have a great weekend!

    • January 24, 2015 / 11:48 am

      Thanks Jess!

I will definitely be posting about a few of the recipes that caught me eye (and by a few I mean like 20 recipes I bookmarked to make ASAP last night, haha).

Know the Blues Clues mail song by heart even though I haven’t seen it in more than a decade. My kids were toddlers and preschoolers when it was on (it still is now but it’s not the same without Steve) and I watched it with them every morning. That and Little Bear. 🙂
Good luck at your race on Sunday!!!!

    • January 24, 2015 / 11:47 am

Little Bear! Awwww I used to really like that show 🙂 I forgot all about it!

      Thanks! 🙂

  17. January 24, 2015 / 8:22 am

I am going to order this RW cookbook after I close out this page…lol.

Have a fabulous run on Sunday and I LOVE that sparkle tutu!!!! RUNFAMOUS 😀

    • January 24, 2015 / 11:46 am

There is this thing called Long Run Bread with Peanut Butter and Cream Cheese frosting in the cookbook…OMG!

I went through the whole thing last night and bookmarked about 20 things I want to make this coming week! haha

  18. January 24, 2015 / 11:22 am

I’m so happy the cold front is back. You’re going to have a wonderful race!

Hm, that mail-time song sounds familiar haha! I feel like I just posted the same thing!

    • January 24, 2015 / 11:45 am

YES! When I saw the boxes I thought of the mail song, then I thought of you! haha

  19. January 26, 2015 / 9:37 am

Was there running related stuff in the boxes?!
