Guess Where We Just Booked a Trip To!

Since I’m still on limited activity from running and basically anything that requires a lot of foot movement, I’ve become really excited about and focused on lifting. You may have noticed :).

I don’t want to say I’ve been phoning it in the last few years, but running definitely became my sole fitness focus and I didn’t push myself when it came to lifting.

Now I am back to being interested in lifting since I have a long road ahead of me before I can train for a race again. I’ve been doing chest press the last few years using 15 – 25lb dumbbells (so 30 – 50lbs total).

Last night I decided to see how much further I could take it doing benchpress. Here’s what I did:

-8 x 45lbs (the bar)
-8 x 55lbs (just testing the water)
-8 x 60lbs (ok that feels challenging)
-8 x 60lbs (can I do it again? yes)
-4 X 60lbs (lost my form, couldn’t get 8)

So that’s the benchmark for benchpress. It’s going to take a while for me to get back to my max, I’ve obviously lost some strength, but I guess that will happen after five years!

Enjoyed a semi-green shake afterwards.

I say semi-green because I once tried to put a bunch of spinach in a smoothie and hated how tangy it was. So now I am slowly adding in a little more spinach each time until I finally have a green smoothie. I add two more spinach leaves every time I make a shake – this one had 12 spinach leaves! I’m getting there :).

^ Just a pic of me being pleased with myself for challenging myself at benchpress and also drinking a semi-green smoothie! BTW if you missed my latest vlog check it out here:

I’m telling you, in 2018 I am going to get back to running AND I’m going to be a well-rounded runner. I’m going to strength train and cross train and be grateful for every minute I get to spend running.

This year felt like such a failure on the fitness front, even though I know it was an important year since I needed surgery to get my running back on track.Β It was a necessary evil but it was still a frustrating year that left me feeling empty a lot.

The good news is that 2018 is right around the corner, and Adam and I will be ending the year on a high note in VEGAS! We booked our trip yesterday :). Thank you to everyone for your advice on where we should go!

We haven’t been to Vegas since summer 2014 so we are due for this trip. I am beyond excited that I am going to get to see Britney’s show before her residency ends!!!!! I am blessed.

Do you have any trips planned for the rest of the year, or first thing next year?
Do you ever leave booking travel to the last
We once booked a trip to Seattle two days before we flew out! lol

You’re going to have so much fun in Vegas! I’m glad you decided to do that. πŸ™‚ Since I’m a teacher, we only travel during the summer just because it makes the most sense with my job. I wouldn’t rule out doing something in the winter sometime, but summer is just easier for us.

I wish Planet Fitness had a bench press with a free bar. The used to but now they just have smith machines. I do chest press with dumbbells and then just a lot of push ups. I can do 10 reps of 30lbs in each hand easily but I CAN’T lean back with 35lbs. I think if someone handed them to me and took them away from me I could do it but that would require me having like two assistants haha.

Oh man that stinks that PF removed it!

Hahahhaha two assistants! That’s great! I definitely do think a big benefit of working out with Adam is that he helps me put my plates on and take them off, it’s especially nice when I am tired :).

Unfortunately, any major travel for us is on hold until 2019 when we are done paying off credit card debt and rebuilding our savings (which both took a hit, ironically, due to travel this year).

Have fun in Vegas! You deserve a getaway!

You will feel so free once you have paid off your CC debt and rebuilt your savings. One year off from travel will be totally worth it!

Oh, how cool…Vegas! Awesome. We were just there in October. No more travel for us this year which I am OK with. We had a busy 2017. Rick will go up skiing but I stay home (gladly). For 2018 we are going to Austin, Mexico, Steamboat and (I think) Mexico again! I am happy you are getting back to weights. Since I am not a “serious” runner I am able to do other sports and lift and the variety makes me happy! How do you like your spin bike?

Ohhhhhh those all sound like great trips! I bet Austin will be super cool. LMK what you think because it’s been on my list of places to visit for a while but I keep putting it off for some reason. I know it’s like foodie central so I really should get on booking that trip! πŸ˜€

I love the new spin bike! I stopped riding it because it makes my left leg where the stitches are hurt. I think the stitches are ready to come out because the area is suddenly pretty sensitive feeling even though it looks healed. It sort of sometimes feels like the skin is being stretched, and it felt a lot like that when spinning on the down part of rotation with the pedal. Does that make sense? I have no idea if that will make sense haha!
