Half Marathon Plans & Fantasy Football Fun

I got up early to go for a morning run again on Saturday! WHO AM I?? Waking up before absolutely necessary goes against the grain for me. However, I do like not having to worry about fitting in a run later in the day. There’s only so many times you can say to your sig. other, “would you mind if we don’t do anything at all on Saturday night? Because I really need to run a ton of miles and then sit on the couch without moving for many hours.”

I was a little bit concerned about how my quad would hold up for a long run, so I did all thirteen of my planned miles on the treadmill. Basically, this was my view for a long time:

After the Portland Marathon I am registered for a couple of half marathons. I have some loose goals in mind for them that I want to solidify soon-ish. I used the opportunity of running 13 miles this weekend to go a bit faster than I normally would on a long run to gauge what might be realistic. It was a good test! More on that soon!

So, one of the downsides of Cecil LOVING his cat tree is that he used to sit on my lap when I was at my desk and now he just lays in the tree.

And tries to steal my Garmin so that he can record the splits from his 3AM sprints around the house. #HesFast

Aside from running, lifting, eating and watching sports not a whole lot went on this weekend. Just the way I like it!

I drafted my fantasy football team on Saturday after my long run. My team name this year is Grimes & Punishment (Brent Grimes is one of my favorite players on the Dolphins)! I wanted to use Turn Down for Watt (a play on JJ Watt’s name) but apparently everyone is using that this year!

I planned out my draft board on Friday night… naturally nothing ever goes as planned!

I ended picking 11th out of 14 which stinks! All of the good running backs were gone by the time my first pick came around so I went with a QB instead. I could have gotten Peyton but I went with Aaron instead because… <3. Plus, I knew I would be able to pick up Jordy Nelson in the second round easy and I think the two of them could combine to give me big points each week.

I’m definitely concerned about my running back situation though! If you have any suggestions for sleepers that I should look to pick up on the waiver wire left me know!

How did your long run go this weekend? When was the last time you did a long one on the treadmill?

If you play FF who do you have at running back?? Did you draft any rookies?

Paul is sooooo into FF. He is sleeping now but when he wakes up I will ask him if he has a suggestion for running back. He is such a geek when it comes to this stuff. He has 1 main league, a $10 league, and then some practice leagues. One year yahoo flagged him because he tried to sign up for too many hahaha!

Haha that’s great! My dad is retired and fantasy football is his main “job” these days. Last year he managed 12 teams and this year he’s got 10! lol

One year he actually came in first place in a big ESPN league and they sent him a big plaque and everything!

Last year I relied on his advice heavily because it was my first year playing, but this year I told him I didn’t want any help. (He doesn’t read my blog so he won’t know that I’ve asked the entire Internet for help!)

Its been many years since I did a long run on a treadmill! I avoid it at all costs…but that view doesn’t look so bad! Last winter when the roads weren’t great I stopped at my gym to do part of my run on the treadmill but only made it 3 miles before deciding the streets were a better option:)

I think I like the treadmill more than most runners, but around the 10 mile mark I usually start getting really antsy. I like starting a run on the treadmill and finishing up outside! That first mile after getting off the treadmill always feels like FREEDOM! lol

I like football but don’t have a clue how to play Fantasy Football – just as well!
I do long runs on my treadmill a lot – it helps that I have a TV with all my recorded shows to help entertain me!!!

Totally agree!! I love watching Chopped and other Food Network shows while on the treadmill, haha. It’s always a nice distraction to watch sports on the treadmill too!

I thought about running on the treadmill this am…but I managed to get out there and brave the humidity (99%). I will have to say it was awful–
We are gearing up for FF. Should be interesting. But we did learn that Gronkowski is playing…whew! We have no clue what we are doing. Luckily, in our league the winner makes dinner–I’ll have a tuna steak, please!

99%!!!! Holy cow! I ran in 92% the other morning and thought that was the worst thing ever!

I am so ready for Thursday night! I love your prize. I’m playing in a money league this year so if I win I’ll make a little bit of cash, but I doubt that will happen. I’m playing in a league with lots of guys who have been working on their FF skills for years, plus my running back situation is pretty bad!

Hahah hilarious FF name! I am so impressed you are able to run that long on the TM!

Thank you! I spent WAY too much time on choosing a team name. Like, hours!!! hah!

Another early morning run?!? So unlike you! (Are you a convert now? Are you over on the dark side of early morning runners?) But, I see your point re: the long run taking up the evening. Congrats for getting your long run done so early, and on the treadmill too. That’s a nice view though.
I haven’t done a long run on a treadmill for years (and even then, I don’t think I would class it as ‘long’ these days, was prob only for 45 minutes at most! Back in the day hey) but back at the last place we were living I’d sometimes do a longish run on the sports track, which is kind of like the outdoors treadmill I think.
Cecil is beautiful! You’ll never get tired of hearing that, right? 🙂

ps – sorry, have not got a CLUE re: ff. In fact it felt like reading another language, and I was thinking everything would fall into place and become clear, but, nope, still lost, haha… Sorry!

Morning runs have their perks! I love bei able to nap after when I run early on the weekends especially. I can’t wait to hear about your half plans!!

You’ve got a great line up on your FF team. Don’t worry about the running back situation. I’m sure there will be sleepers that emerge later in the season, and there are always injuries. You will be able to pick someone up if things don’t go well with your current line-up. I am somewhat in the same boat, although I did get to pick Marshawn Lynch. The Rogers-Nelson duo should be powerful this year. Plus, you are lucky you drafted a cute QB! 🙂

I haven’t had a long run in so long I forgot how. You should put a camera on Cecil one day and record his activity lol
