Happy Today-Is-My-Friday Day!

I am very happy today because I have a half day at work before a couple of days off for Thanksgiving! WHOO! I hope you have time off work too!

I’m finally feeling in the holiday spirit! I started my Christmas shopping yesterday and I even put a couple of decorations up around the house.

(We don’t have a tree because we have a cat who is not able to handle a tree! 😉 )

I have zero talent when it comes to interior decoration, so I really just put things up wherever it feels right which sometimes doesn’t end up looking right.

Oh well, Adam and I hardly ever have anyone over who can judge us!

Sorry, I’m not sorry that I use Pinterest to find motivational running pictures instead of home decor ideas! 🙂

Last night I went for an easy three miler in the sauna  around my hood. Only 91% humidity yesterday, so that’s an improvement over Monday!

sdf

Who wants to come join me? Anyone? No takers for running in the sauna?

You have no idea how much I am looking forward to the change in weather that will roll in briefly on Thursday!

As you can see ^ I got caught at the drawbridge again. Damn bridge. Although honestly it was so humid my heart was beating like crazy by the time I got to the top and I was pretty grateful for the mini break. Only one boat had to pass through, so it didn’t take too long.

So, I’ve had a very last minute Thanksgiving change of plans. I won’t be going out of town for the holiday, which means I can sign up for the local Turkey Trot 5K.

I am scheduled to run 5 miles on Thursday, and the start and finish of the race just happen to be about 1.5 miles from my house. That means I can easily get in my full five miles by doing a warmup and cool down jog on my way there and back.

The only reason I am hesitating is that the race fee is now $40 and you don’t even get a tech t-shirt or medal. Hmmmmmm. I run this same route almost every single day of my life for free. Should I pay $40 to run my normal route just because it’s Thanksgiving?  That’s a tough one.

Hmmm hmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm …

What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a 5K?

Are you braving the grocery stores today? I am and I’m scared!

Haha seems like that bridge has it out for you xD Wow, I wish I could send some of our weather to you..

Your Christmas stockings are so cute!

    I’ve never paid for a 5K – never raced a 5K 🙂 But I wouldn’t pay $40 if I didn’t get a medal haha.. I like medals, mkay? 😉
I sure am! Which isn’t a big deal because Thanksgiving isn’t a thing here so it’s just a regular day at the grocery store :3 I’m so jealous of all your holidays, seriously! 🙁

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:00 pm

It totally is out for me!

I paid $40 to do a Color Run last year and that didn’t come with a tech tee or a medal either, but we did get sunglasses and they gave us the color bombs to use during the race!

Thanksgiving is an interesting holiday because it’s basically become a day ALL about food! You just eat all day, haha. Come on over one year, I’ll make sure you eat some good food 🙂

Love you decorations! And even though I think I might die in that humidity, I would come run with you.
Today is my Friday too and I am really happy about it. Don’t have to brave the stores, got everything on Sunday. But when I do have to brave the stores when crowded I just get myself in a zone and try to breath through it! Good luck.

It is a killer! I really think humidity slows me down way more than heat!

I zoomed in and out of Publix pretty quickly. I made sure to get less than 10 items so I could get in the express line! It was totally madness in there though, so many people, so many carts, such tiny aisles! haha

  3. November 26, 2014 / 6:22 am

Woo hoo “Friday Friday” I think my entire office will be working remotely today oh well. I had a REAL lol when I saw your bridge pic last night – can’t believe it! You can have a page dedicated to bridge pics 🙂 I think the most I’ve ever paid for a 5K is around $35-40. Anything over that amount is a toughie! Does it go to a really good cause?

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:04 pm

I should have a page dedicated to all the times I’ve gotten caught at the bridge. I’m not sure what’s going on actually because prior to this month I think I had gotten stopped at the bridge maybe 3 or 4 times TOTAL in a two year time period!

Unfortunately the race wasn’t benefiting a cause at all. If it was benefiting a charity, I would have paid the $40. I ended up skipping the 5K and just heading out extra early so I could get in my five miles without having to adjust my normal route due to the race. Just as I was heading home all of the runners were getting ready to line up at the start!

  4. November 26, 2014 / 7:35 am

    That bridge! Booo

$40 seems a little steep for a 5k, but I’d probably still do it if it goes to a cause that I support. I’m not a big fan of medals (I know, I’m weird) so that wouldn’t bother me, but I could see why that would be a bummer for people who collect or display theirs.

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:06 pm

I’m with ya, Lizzy. If the race was benefiting a cause I would have paid it, but it wasn’t associated with any cause. I’ve run races before that don’t have medals, and I personally prefer there are no medals if the race benefits a charity so that they can keep the majority of the entry fee. But for $40 and no cause, not getting a medal was a big deal! haha

  5. November 26, 2014 / 7:45 am

I think the most i have ever paid for a race is $40. Its crazy how such a short race can be so expensive!
My brother in law went running yesterday here in Cape Coral around noon and he said it was awful! Im kind of grateful to be taking some time off running this week- although later this week looks like it will be great running weather!

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:07 pm

I agree!!! I paid $40 to do The Color Run last year, but I think it was worth it because it was a lot of fun. Not your average race!

Running at noon? Wow! That’s hardcore!

Today we had really great running weather! I think we will have really nice weather tomorrow too, so I might switch my long run to tomorrow! 🙂

My love for Turkey Trots is real and alive, but the high costs of them for a 5K is really hard for me to justify. I wish we could create a virtual 5K and all run together???

    Happy Thanksgiving, Kristina!!

Look at you, little miss decorator!

I am so worried about how Benny is going to handle the tree this year. Last year he was still in his kitten size, but now has grown into a size that could easily knock down a large tree. Hopefully we can get him to behave himself.

I’ve never run a 5K and would probably have a tough time throwing down $40 for 3.1 miles. But, it is Thanksgiving…. So, I don’t know.

We will definitely be braving the grocery stores today. It seems like it has been bad for the past week, so what’s another trip to chaos? I let me husband do it – I don’t have the patience. Haha.

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:11 pm

I hope your trip to the grocery store wasn’t too bad! Adam did most of the shopping earlier this week, so I was able to keep my list to under 10 items and use the express lane 🙂

I hope Benny does well with the tree! My mom’s cat can handle the tree, but to assist with the situation she keeps all the ornaments and things on the top half so the cat isn’t tempted to start batting or playing with any within reach. Cecil is a total jumper so I just have a mini tree I put up in my office at work, haha.

  8. November 26, 2014 / 12:42 pm

I would totally just run around my neighborhood! But you know me, I am el cheapo when it comes to race fees. 🙂 I am decorating today too! We had an impromptu early dismissal at work due to snow…. Might as well take advantage of it! My cats can’t handle the tree either. They used to be able to, and boy do I miss having a nice big tree. Now we do a small tree on a VERY high cabinet. Used to be on the record cabinet but Christmas can reach that now.

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:13 pm

Snow!!! 🙂 How exciting to have a snow day!

I ended up just heading out extra early so I could run my normal route without getting in the way of the 5K. I had to get up SUPER early, but I didn’t have to pay $40 and I got to watch the sunrise so it was kind of a win-win 🙂

  9. November 26, 2014 / 1:00 pm

Since I’m regretting signing up for my Turkey Trot, I would say just do your own run. 🙂

And yes, I don’t have a tree because of the cats. I do have a little ceramic one that I put up.

    • November 27, 2014 / 8:13 pm

I have a little mini tree that I put up in my office at work! 🙂

I hope that your Turkey Trot went really well, I can’t wait to hear all about it!!!

  10. November 26, 2014 / 5:30 pm

$40!!!!! Thats a bit excessive I think. That medal better be AMAZING!! Have a happy thanksgiving!

  11. November 26, 2014 / 10:10 pm

Please explain this weird FL weather to me! I am so annoyed that we had gorgeous weather in the 50s and now it’s in the 80s again!

I opted out of my TT this year. I usually love it, but it’s so crowded & expensive, and with the race on Sunday, I decided not to risk injury on the giant bridge!

  12. November 27, 2014 / 5:40 am

Love your Holiday decorations!!! I”m waiting for another while to put mine up because I HAVE to focus on report cards…lol. I’ve paid an insane amount of money for a 5k….$65! It was for an all women’s race with a lot of sweet perks but super pricy!

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:54 pm

Report cards! OMG I totally forgot those things existed!!! hahaha

      $65 for a 5K!!! WOW!

  13. November 27, 2014 / 7:07 am

Whaaat?? No t-shirt or medal?? Hmm, that’s not right, haha…

Happy thanksgiving Kristina and enjoy the few days off from work. Love the stockings!! (Do you buy each other stocking filler gifts? My mum is too cute and has sent me a filled stocking to be opened Christmas morning, bless her).

    🙂

    • December 2, 2014 / 5:55 pm

Awwww your mom is so sweet!

The last couple of years we haven’t bought each other filler gifts because I haven’t brought out the stockings, but this year we will!! I love shopping for little gifts!

Our big gift to each other is the new TV we bought! It arrives this week, so a little bit early haha!

  14. November 27, 2014 / 9:07 pm

I’ve been jealous all day that Americans get a turkey trot AND a free pass to eat as much pie as possible. If it wasn’t for school … I’m pretty sure I would have driven over for a trot and pie 😉

    • November 27, 2014 / 9:07 pm

      PS happy thanksgiving! 🙂

I’m a lousy decorator too. And I’m lame about doing anything to make it look homey. I spend too much time and money on my hobbies to worry about my house.

I did a turkey 5k today with my daughter. It was really icy but a lot of fun. How was yours?

We went to Walmart for light bulbs and broth today (my dinner is actually tomorrow). To my surprise there were 20 checkers standing around with no one in their lines. It’s 7:30 now so I am sure that has changed.

Happy Thanksgiving. I’d love to come run in your sauna!

    • November 30, 2014 / 7:57 pm

Yes! I am so with you! I spend too much time and money on my hobbies, and anyone who comes over to my house and is unimpressed with my decorations … oh well! 🙂 I’d happily let someone else come over and decorate for me!

  16. November 30, 2014 / 9:31 pm

I cannot believe how warm it is where you are! We had a beautiful few days, but I would never call it a sauna! I am waiting until next weekend to decorate. It is still early, but I am excited to get a tree this year 🙂

    • December 1, 2014 / 2:48 pm

I saw tree lots popping up all over the place this weekend! I wish we could have a tree, but Cecil cannot help himself and exhibits bad behavior when he is around Christmas trees and string cheese ;).

Oh man, last week was such a killer with the weather! Today the high was 81 degrees but the humidity at least is under 90%!
