Heck yeah!

Last night I wore a running skirt. This is a big deal to me.

I’ve been thinking about wearing one for a few days now. I bought a red and white polka dot Sparkle Skirt for the Disney Princess Half earlier this year so I could dress up as Minnie Mouse.

When I wore it during the race I wore capris under the skirt. Last night I did not.

During the half I wore capris under the skirt because I didn’t want to risk chafing, but also because I wasn’t comfortable showing my legs around so many people. I wear dresses to work all the time, but let’s face it: running skirts tend to be pretty short.

Last night I decided I no longer cared what my legs look like.

Could they be leaner? Sure. 

Could they be more muscular? Of course. 

Did they get me to the finish line of a marathon? Hell yeah they did! 

Since the Princess Half in February I’ve lost 15 (more) pounds. It’s not a lot, but it has made me feel better about myself. Of course I’m still on my journey to get back to a healthy for me weight. Every day I’m one step closer!

Last night I ran a different beach loop than I normally do and guess what? Apparently there is an outdoor gym at the beach! Who knew?!

I ended up doing an easy four miles by the water and finished up with one mile around my hood.

When I synced my Garmin I was treated to a spooky early Halloween surprise!

I think the calories are probably off (how does Garmin calculate them anyway?) but …. dun dun dun! 666! I should have run for another minute!

(Twenty-six feet of elevation gain, I’m hardcore!)

– I think you all should come visit me! We can get up early to do some sunrise yoga at the beach, run a few miles along the coast and then use the little outdoor gym! What do you think?

    A trip to Florida sounds perfect right about now! Actually I will be in Cape Coral next month for Thanksgiving with my in-laws. Too bad its on the other side of the state!

      Oh that’s awesome, Cape Coral is so nice! I hear an arctic feeze is supposed to hit all parts of the country except Florida so I bet you’ll enjoy that escape for a few days! 😉

    I want a running skirt soooo bad, but it is getting cold and I might have to wait until next spring! They are super cute and I am sure you look great!! Self confidence is hard to have, I have noticed I have become more comfortable with my legs not in a ‘I like the way they look way’ but more in a ‘I don’t care what you think, these babies can carry me for miles’ kind of way!!! Rock that skirt and do it with confidence….everyone will notice how much you shine!!

      Haha, I totally forgot that in many parts of the country (and world) it’s now too cold for running skirts! It was 82 degrees during my run last night, so definitely perfect skirt weather. I wonder if I can get a bunch of them on clearance now that they are “out of season” everywhere else!

    Love that you’ve got free beach gyms. I very much like the sound of those yoga, running and gym sessions – count me in! Or we could use the outside gyms here (there are LOADS here, I think every suburb in China has one, perhaps?) but it’s getting a little bit too cold, plus they’re always quite busy, we’d have to muscle our way onto the equipment. 🙂

      Thank you, Lou! 🙂 COME VISIT soon! Escape the frigidly cold winter you’ll soon be facing! As you can see, no one seems to use the outdoor gym here. That could have been because I was running by it around 8 at night, but I bet it’s not that busy during the day either since it’s so hot!

    I love the skirt–fun color, and I LOVE polka dots! I would like to get a polka dot running top, but I haven’t found one…I would like to try a running skirt too, maybe next spring. It is time for me to start thinking about tights.
    I would love to come to FL and run–especially in a month or two when I come in from my runs looking like a popsicle! I haven’t seen any outdoor gyms here.

      I really had not thought about how it’s getting too cold everywhere else in the country to wear running skirts! I just heard on Saturday night it’s supposed to be in the mid-50s here which is absolutely freezing by south florida standards. I wonder if I’ll need to bring a jacket on my run? 🙂

      I have a guest room anytime you want to visit, but my one condition is that you have to agree to run at my pace with me! haha

      That stuff totally freaks me out. I’m sure it’s a bad omen! On top of that during lunch I ran to the store (not literally, I drove, haha) and walked under a ladder!!!!

    I love those outdoor gyms – more for playing around on than actually doing a workout but they are always fun to stumble upon!

      Thank you! Now that I’m pro-running skirt I need to go buy 10 billion of them this weekend! 🙂

      It looks like the outdoor gym is made up entirely of bars! I guess it’s meant for people who really love pushups and pullups!

    The whole beach yoga thing sounds awesome but I know what would happen. I’d end up parking on the beach, enjoying the weather with a cold beer. No workout getting done, but I would cheer everyone on lol.

      Hey! 26 feet of elevation gain is 6 more feet than my normal route has! I was basically being a badass hill runner last night! HAHA

      Well I imagine Adam would park it right there in the sand with you and join in on the beer drinking!

      WOW! I thought it was still in the 50s/60s everywhere else… 30s!!! Brrr! When I visited a friend in Michigan a couple of years ago I nearly died from the cold 🙂 I bet you will get snow soon! (Or maybe you already have snow?!)

    You are rockin’ that skirt, girl! You should be so proud of all of your accomplishments this year. I have only seen those beach gyms in the movies… you must live in a movie. We have trail running outdoor gyms around here where you run and then come across one piece of equipment, and then run some more and come across another piece of equipment, and so on. I don’t really use them which is probably why I can’t do a pull-up.

    Okay girlie, my thighs are fairly beefy even though the rest of my legs are thin, so I just body glide up my thighs and go! I LOVE the skirt! Adorable:) I bet you looked awesome. Your skin is beautiful, I let my pasty white legs hang out lol When I put on my running skirts people always seem to ask if I lost weight (of course I haven’t) but I think it’s just the cut, I look bigger in my running shorts and pants. The 666 cracks me up LOL Great job on the weight loss. I know how hard it is, I have been battling for four years and I’ve only lost about 15 lbs. Oh, I got a pair of run buns and wear them under my skirts that don’t have built ins 🙂 I wish I could rock a pair of run buns but it will never happen.

      I used SO MUCH body glide last night. Probably way too much BUT I didn’t have any chafing so I guess it worked 🙂

      I cannot even imagine wearing run buns out in public! OMG!

    LOL on the 666! About the running skirt–good for you for getting out there and wearing it without capris! Even though I lost weight 3.5 years ago and have maintained my loss, I am *still* not super confident about my legs. Large thighs run in my family in general, and no amount of weight loss will give me super skinny legs. But over time I have gained confidence by thinking, like you, of how strong my legs are and how many miles they take me. I used to only wear capris (even on the most hot and humid days), but this summer I started running in skirts. Athleta makes one that has a tall size option and is pretty long, but their regular length isn’t super short either (the Relay Skort). I am still very afraid of shorts, but maybe some day I’ll give them a try.

      I wear a pair of running shorts around the house! haha Maybe someday I will step outside in them!

    Whenever I wish my legs were leaner, I remind myself… if I had skinny little girl legs I would not be able to run the kinds of races I want to run!!!

    15lbs is awesome Kristina. Since you are not doing something DRASTIC and unhealthy the pounds will stay off.

    I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT YOU. If we are ever in the area I will hit you up. I have never been to FL!

    And, I’m totally in on a Florida trip – I would do outdoor yoga, weights…..whatever it takes to get to spend lots of time on the beach!!!

    That sounds like a fun runcation! One of the running trails has those type of workout stuff.. but of course its on ugly grass. Cute skirt! I tried one once….. btu it was too scandalous for my liking haha.

    I’m proud of you for wearing your skirt without leggings underneath! Your legs are bad ass! They carried you through months of training and a full marathon. You should be proud of them! You should totally use that outside gym; it looks really fun!

    I have a running skirt too…haven’t worn it yet…for the same reasons that it took you so long to wear yours. I think we all go through our periods of not wanting to show off our legs. I was brave enough to wear shorts once though!

    Outdoor gyms are so awesome! We have one here, but it’s very small and there’s always these huge scary guys hanging there so there’s no way I’m going anywhere near that place haha.. too bad.
