I did it: my first 90+ mile month!

I can hardly believe it’s June already! I feel like just yesterday January 1st was ticking by.

In May I had my highest mileage month for the year, and also my highest mileage month ever! I know this is just a very small milestone in the grand scheme of things, but it feels kind of cool so I’m celebrating!

January: 77.2
February: 66.2 (included taper + half marathon)
March: 57 (rest after half + starting to build back up to double digit runs)
April: 72.5 (cruise + low motivation after the cruise)
May: 94.6 — ready to go for 100+ in June!

Total so far for 2014: 367.1

I am four months (and 4 days) out from my first marathon now and looking forward to what the next few months have in store!

(I think I found the 50K I am going to sign up to do in spring 2015, but more on that later. I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself!)

I don’t have many pictures from this weekend because I spent most of it in bed sleeping. On Friday morning my sinus pressure turned into a sinus infection and I felt MISERABLE. I had three important meetings at work that I couldn’t reschedule, so I just had to pop pills and trudge through the day.

Cecil kept me company while I was sick in bed.

Saturday I woke up feeling a bit better, so I went for an 11 mile run in the late afternoon. It wasn’t my strongest run, but it really wasn’t terrible. The fresh air and movement felt great after spending 24 hours moving between the couch and the bed.

Sunday morning I woke up before Adam and decided I wanted to log some pool time. I planned on swimming laps and maybe doing a little pool running, but once I got down there all my body wanted to do was float around… which ended up being really nice! Sometimes we have to give ourselves permission to be really lazy!

I had all intentions of going to the gym after lunch, but I ended up taking yet another long nap. I guess my body needs lots of rest to fight off this little cold because I feel like I spent all weekend sleeping!

Now I’m ready to tackle the week ahead — including lots of really STRONG runs! Let’s do it!

Oh and before I go, I just have to share this funny article from the local paper:

The Sun Sentinel writes, “the animal initially struggled to get situated, but once it got comfortable it chilled out in the hammock for about 20 minutes.” How funny is that?

What are you most excited for this week? Any big plans?

Woohoo!! Congrats on your month of 90+ miles!! That’s awesome!!! Can’t wait to hear which 50km you are going to sign up for.

That’s so awesome you have that beautiful pool right in your own complex yeah? Hey, anytime spent in the pool counts as swimming/exercise I reckon (you know, effort getting in and water pressure etc, surely?)

LOVE that bear article! So cute and funny, and why not? Bears need to chill too.

Can’t believe it’s June already either. Fastest half a year (ish) yet! This week I’m looking forward to (sort of, kind of nervous actually) my first ever 50km on Saturday. Eek… Looking forward to the finish line anyhoo!

Hope you’re feeling 100% better now after your sinus infection. 🙂

Yes, we are so lucky to have not one but two pools in our complex! If one has children in it, I can just hop over to the other one since I am a grumpy old lady who doesn’t like when people are splashing about, haha.

I am feeling so much better today! Thank you! 🙂

You are going to rock that 50K. I bet after all your worrying you will end up first place female!!

Congrats on the monthly mileage! You are going to rock your marathon (in four months and four days)! Your pool looks awesome. I would want to be lazy, too. And I am sure you needed the sleep you got. That bear article is too funny and sounds like something that has happened in Boulder before 😉

    • June 2, 2014 / 2:24 pm

I just love how the article points out that the bear struggled to get into the hammock since I know I must look like a crazy person when I’m getting adjusted in one!

HAVE YOU SEEN THE “June100Miles hashtag?????? now that you have completed 90 miles/month, I think you need to participate in this! I saw it tonight and immediately thought of you 🙂 Do it!

  3. June 2, 2014 / 12:24 pm

Awesome mileage, Kristina! I have seen that bear article all over facebook. He is awesome. Oh and your pool/condo complex is sooooooooooo nice and summery! Looks like vacation to me!

    • June 2, 2014 / 2:26 pm

The pool area at our place is nice, BUT it’s going to be absolutely nothing compared to your vacation coming up!!!!

I haven’t run in so long, 90 miles in a month sounds super intimidating!! Awesome for you, though!! Yay!!

  5. June 2, 2014 / 5:53 pm

Ugh – sinus infections are the worst – glad you are feeling better!!
Hooray for the 90+ mile month – way to go!
The view of the pool from y’all’s condo is awesome!

My hubby and I were reading the Florida bear story cracking up lol I can’t even get in a hammock w/o tipping it lol Congrats on the great month!!! You will packing in those miles for marathon training. I want to know what ultra you are going to do! Cecil is so sweet keeping you company, glad you are feeling better.

    • June 3, 2014 / 4:18 pm

Hahah I know! Getting into a hammock takes skill when you know what you’re doing! That bear is smart!

  7. June 2, 2014 / 7:47 pm

Congrats on the great month. 90+ miles is awesome. Can’t wait to see what you have picked out for your first 50k. Btw I think I have one picked out myself. Shhhh don’t tell anyone.

Go Heat. .. In the finals and going to beat the spurs again.

  8. June 2, 2014 / 8:52 pm

    you got my illness!!!!! no!!!!!!!!!!

    that bear is awesome!

congrats on the amazing month of may. it’s amazing how one month’s lack of motivation leads to the BEST running month ever 🙂

can’t wait to hear about all your training plans 🙂

  9. June 2, 2014 / 8:55 pm

I am equal parts proud and jealous of your mileage. I’ve NEVER run that much in a month! When training starts for me, I know I’ll start seeing those kinds of miles…but I’m still building back up from having to take time off!

Funny story about that bear…He was lounging around where I went to college. We had bear sightings ALL the time. I remember once I came out of the cafeteria and there was a huge crowd gathered around a tree…looking up, I saw an adorable bear cub who had gotten himself trapped! The fire dept had to get him down lol!!

    • June 3, 2014 / 4:23 pm

Aww poor little bear cub up a tree!

The Runner’s World Training Log has helped me increase my miles because it adds up the weekly total as you make your way towards Sunday. I never used to track my weekly mileage, but now that I know what the number is I never want it to be too low 😉 It’s motivational!

  10. June 3, 2014 / 7:45 pm

Congratulations, Kristina! A 90+ mile month is huge! You are making big strides (literally, eh?) from month to month. And, weren’t you pool running in May also? I can’t believe you have a pool right outside your door – what a luxury. My excitement this week is completely centered around my half Ironman. I’m a big ball of nerves!
