I Did Something I Never Do …

This morning I did something I have never done before: I cut my long run short and I didn’t feel guilty about it!

Why? YOLO or something like that.

I ran two miles down to the beach and when I got to the sand I just plopped down and watched the sunrise. It was beautiful and worth it.

Before I became a runner I never saw the sunrise. I would always sleep in until 9, 10, 11am and then go about my lazy day. Now, I see the sunrise almost every weekend but I enjoy it on-the-go.

I take notice of its beauty while simultaneously thinking about pace, splits, distance left, etc.

Last weekend during my nine miler I distinctly thought “The weekend after the half marathon I’m going to run here, sit down in the sand and enjoy the morning.” This morning I decided I didn’t want to wait that long…

Normally I would feel really guilty about cutting a long run short, but my running coach put me on a down (recovery) week this week anyway. My run today was “only” supposed to be 7 miles.

Instead I did 2 miles, sat around for a little bit, and then walked the 2 miles home. Yes, walked.

I started feeling a little bit awkward while walking home wearing my hydration belt while runners blew past me. I probably looked ridiculous walking at about a 20 min/mile (my Garmin battery died so that’s an estimation) with a hydration belt on … I mean c’mon, right? Oh well. YOLO? Can I use that here?

I’ll probably go out again tonight and try to get a few more miles of actual running in, but if I don’t … YOLO!!

Actually I really do need to get some more miles in. Last week I did 23 miles and if I don’t get some more in tonight this week will be under 10! Yikes!

Hope everyone had a great long run this morning!

That sounds like the perfect morning :o) With the later sunrise, I now see it as I drive to work. It’s so gorgeous. I wish I were close enough to the water to see the sunrise on a run over the Gulf…but I’d REALLY need to plan ahead for that!

It was so perfect. I’m really glad I decided to do it. I don’t start my drive to work until 9am so I really never see the sunrise unless I get up early to run!
