I don’t own a sweater. Send help!

I had hoped to have my cross training ideas post ready for you today, but I’m still working on it. Today is a non-running day for me which means I’ll be thinking about XT all day and will definitely wrap that up! 🙂

Last night a cold front rolled into town and we dipped back down into the 60s which meant I had a pretty spectacular run!

Just three easy miles down to the beach and back at sunset.

Because the weather was so nice (and I left work a little early), I had energy and time to go for another couple of miles, but I’m taking this “reset” thing seriously. I know I will have some hard workouts coming up once 5K training begins so I need to really let my body rest and get ready for that.

Right now I’m trying to figure out when I am going to do my PAWS virtual 5K race. Lizzy kicked things off last week knocking out a personal best and finishing in 23:49!!

So, clearly I have no hope for beating her ;).

Congrats Lizzy and a big thank you to the following runners who have joined the race:

  • Hanna from The Millennial Next Door, an AmeriCorps alum who also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and traveled to El Salvador to build a home for a deserving family. Last year Hanna made her marathon debut with a killer 4:01 finishing time and she’s just started training for her second marathon! She also has a couple of fluffy kitties!
  • Ali from Hit the Ground Running was one of the very first run bloggers I started following back in early 2013! She is an exceptional writer (even her text messages are grammatically correct), a total inspiration and she has the cutest bird I’ve ever seen named Archie!

As for me, I think I’m going to run my virtual 5K on or around March 11th.

The deadline for registering for the PAWS virtual race is March 10th and all races must be completed by March 20th, so I’ll just be slipping in before the deadline!

If you want to register, you can do so HERE :).

Yeah, you go ahead and run. I’ll just stay here. Meow.

Have a great day!

PS: The high today is only 61 degrees (with lows in the 30s!!!!) and I’ve just realized I don’t even own a sweater, a long sleeved shirt or a heavy jacket! WHAT SHOULD I DO besides drink a lot of hot tea? Send help! #SOS

– My Portland Marathon finisher shirt is long-sleeved but I don’t think I can wear it to work….

Sorry, I would send you a sweater but I need ALL OF THEM this week because it going to be like -20 degrees tonight. I am seriously just going to show up in Florida one of these days.

Haha! I love Florida cold fronts. When I lived there I’d get all excited about it dipping into the 30’s.

It’s currently 1 degree here where I am. I don’t think I could send you a sweater because I’ll be wearing them all. 🙂

  3. February 19, 2015 / 8:31 am

I’d send you a sweater but I need them!!! I can’t wait til I get to run in 60s again…I’ll probably get like 3 whole days of spring weather before it shoots up to the 80s for the whole summer 🙁

    Way to go Lizzy!

Weather in the 30s definitely calls for long-sleeves! You could probably get by with a t-shirt and a lighter jacket in a pinch though, especially if it’s still warmer inside your office. Brr!

I woke up to -2 (windchill of -20) this morning. The radio personalities were warning people not to let their pets outside (just in and out) because of the serious danger of frostbite! 🙁

I need to figure out when I’m going to do my 5K too! I’d love to do it when we’re back in California for an apartment hunting trip so I don’t have to do it on the treadmill.

The real feel here in Camp Hill PA at this very moment is -11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta think about when I’m going to do your virtual race, too! I will hype it up on my blog this weekend. 🙂

I know it feels cold to you, but… 😉
I often wear a tank under my shirt for an additional layer of warmth. Try that!
Today is actually warmer here 20*–Tonight we dive back down. Seriously though, 20* felt a lot warmer–
I have to figure out when to do the virtual race too. I told my kids that if it has to be on the treadmill, they better come down in the basement and cheer me on!

I am chuckling that you don’t own a sweater lol I can’t imagine. We have been in teens, it’s very cold here.
I was hoping for the temps you are having right now for this weekend, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot warmer when I get to Florida.
I will be waiting until probably March to try to run my virtual race.

I’m laughing because I remember a time when I would have needed a jacket for 60 too. Now if it were 60 I would be wearing a dress with cowboy boots (no tights!!) and maybe a jean jacket or maybe not:)
I need to figure out a good time to run my 10K – probably won’t try to run for max speed because of the super high mileage I”m doing right now.

Thanks for the shoutout!! But more importantly, thank YOU for hosting the race that got me motivated to do speedwork on a day that felt (to me) like I was running on the surface of the sun.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how quickly you’re going to make progress on your 5ks now that you’ve been doing a lot of higher mileage training. I think I 5k PR is coming your way fairly soon!

As for staying warm (can we say florida problems?!), my best advice is to keep your feet warm. I’m always surprised at how big a difference shoes and socks makes over sandals or ballet flats or toms. That and that even a light scarf can help. For some reason you don’t seem like a scarf girl (probably b/c you’re always posting pictures of the beach with palm trees) but now’s the time to bust them out if you have them.

Of course the one piece of long-sleeved clothing that own would come from the west coast. I think you could totally get away with wearing your finisher shirt to work… right? Or, maybe now you have a great excuse to go shopping. I couldn’t imagine living in a place where I wouldn’t own any “winter” clothing. I’m sure I could send some jackets/sweaters your way – I have plenty!!! Good luck surviving in that COLD!!! 🙂

P.S. I can finally say it’s warmer in Oregon than it is in Florida!!! HAHAHA!!!!

  11. February 19, 2015 / 1:21 pm

Daaang, props to Lizzy for that 5K time, that is awesome! It is 9 degrees here. 9. Nine. N.i.n.e. I’m moving.

  12. February 19, 2015 / 5:53 pm

I am SO NERVOUS about this cold snap! Running Gasparilla is going to be freezing! I guess winter has finally arrived in Florida lol!

  13. February 19, 2015 / 9:34 pm

Ha! We’ve been having weather similar to that (highs around 58 – 59), and it’s an unseasonably warm stretch for here! I’ve been thoroughly enjoying running in short sleeves in February. 🙂
