Now on to running stuff :).

Yesterday’s run was honestly pretty brutal. I was thirsty, hungry and everything felt tight all at the same time! Plus it was pretty warm out.

I have been working with a registered dietitian for a little bit now. I am learning a lot about nutrition, and I’m also learning to eat more intuitively. As someone who has had a pretty f’d up relationship with food over the course of my entire life this is a process. Some days I feel like I’ve got it and other days … not so much.

One issue I seem to have day after day is that I rarely have an afternoon snack. I get caught up in work and time flies by. This means once my day slows down, I’m varying degrees of hungry when it comes time for my run.

I was telling Heather yesterday how I keep an “emergency Gu” in my glovebox. The problem is that a hot, sticky, disgusting Gu is rarely what I want to eat. I need to work in a better afternoon snack so I can stop killing my “I’m so good at intuitive eating” buzz. I’m positive being hungry (and tired) yesterday led to my crappy run.

As much as I was not into the run I was happy that I did it when it was done :). Isn’t that always the way it goes!

I have to tell you during the winter I get pretty bad about putting on sunscreen because I’m often doing most of my run in the dark. I looooooooove the scent of sunscreen though and I love smelling it on myself during a run. It smells like SUMMER!

Speaking of summer I have noticed that beige nail polish seems to be really in. I bought a bottle over the weekend. I was really excited to join the trend… but IDK guys. I don’t think it works for my skin tone. What do you think?

Putting my bad paint job aside, the color is still not working right? As Adam put it “it looks like you don’t have nails.” I’m trying to convince myself that this works but I don’t think it does…

What I am hoping REALLY works for me is the London Marathon lottery! I submitted my ballot on Monday and have my fingers crossed.

If I don’t get in then I am thinking about signing up for the Paris Marathon. I really, really want to get into London though so all my fingers will be crossed until the lottery results come out in October!

And on a totally random note I found this shirt yesterday and really want to buy it.

If it was acceptable to wear a tank top to work you better believe I would have ordered it already :).

    I always have an afternoon snack! I keep a larabar with me at work so I can eat it even if Im busy. Theres no way I could make it from lunch to dinner without a snack!

    I found my granola bar this morning…I left it at work. So I guess I have an emergency bar at work now, so that’s kind of a win. I really need an emergency snack in my car though.

    I have had several runs where I head out feeling hungry because I didn’t plan well during the day and didn’t want to eat right before a run. Right now I am trying to add a mid-morning snack to my day and eating my lunch later in the day. Maybe you could try setting a calendar reminder/phone alarm to remind you that it is time for an afternoon snack until it starts to become a habit. Or, after lunch set your snack out where you can see it so once and a while you are reminded to take a moment and think about if you are feeling hungry/tired.

    I always have snacks in my bookbag. Either a Clif bar, or trail mix, or these fruit strip things. I pretty much always have a snack between lunch and dinner, especially if I’m going to work out!

    A London marathon sounds so awesome!! I hope you get in!

    We have the same skin tone and I’m with you on the beige. I feel like it doesn’t work for me at all. I’m really into light whitish pinks this spring. It’s hard to find one that’s not too streaky but I just found one that I really like (don’t know the name off of the top of my head!).

    I think a lot of people struggle with the afternoon snack thing. I personally keep a bag of almonds and several bar options (RX Bar has been my favorite) in my desk at work in case I get hungry in the afternoon. I also usually throw an apple in my bag just because it’s a no-fuss piece of fruit. I find them to be kind of refreshing in the afternoon but maybe that’s just me, lol. If you have access to a fridge then string cheese sticks with crackers are another good option.

    I’m a terrible afternoon snacker, and when I do have one, it’s usually something super unhealthy. But, I will often eat a big lunch, so I’m usually not hungry all afternoon anyway. I do pretty well running on an empty stomach so this usually doesn’t end up being an issue for me unless I skip lunch. But if something is on my desk in front of me – a jar of nuts or granola – I will munch on it all day long. Find something that can just sit at your desk and I bet you will be more likely to eat it each day!

    I entered the lottery too! My sister & her family live in central London, so I’ve been trying for a few years… No luck just yet! Maybe 2018 will be the year!

    Fingers crossed for you, and the other readers, for getting into London! That’s very exciting! I’m an early morning runner, so if I have anything it’s usually just a breakfast bar right before I go on my run. I did have coaching at 6:30pm for a while recently, and I decided it was just best to eat a snack around 5:30pm. I struggle with stomach issues and food for evening runs, so if I did that more often I’d probably need a solid plan.

    You are my cat lady friend!! Good luck with London!! What are your chances? What is the IDEAL food you would pack as a snack? I agree a gu sounds like a disgusting snack! I don’t mind the polish but I realize it could look different in real life! How do you find out things like what nail polish is in style?

    I hope you get into London, that would be amazing. I was having chills this year watching Mary Keitany crush the course 🙂
    I like to run empty because I run in the morning so much, but when I do run after work, it is usually at least 3 hours after I eat. I like to feel “empty” when I run that is just how i am more comfortable.
    Glad to hear you have a nutritionist 🙂 That is great!

    I personally don’t like the beige color at all on anyone and I wish it weren’t popular. It makes it look like everyone has flesh fingertips lol. I know it’s summer and all but I still love dark navy and dark purples on nails best. My sister did have a nice dark brown shade that I thought was okay.

    Speaking of abroad marathons…the Loch Ness is on my bucket list. Someday… 🙂
