I Got a Tattoo!

I’ve wanted a tattoo for a while, but I’ve been thinking seriously about it since March. Not surprisingly, I knew right from the start that my tattoo would be feline themed.

My first cat Leo only lived to be nine; renal failure took him way too soon. This year Cecil will turn 10 years old, and it is also the 10 year anniversary of Leo passing away. I decided to get a tattoo that would commemorate these two events that are meaningful to me.

I brought an example of what I wanted to the tattoo parlor, and the artist I worked with drew up a few unique options for me to choose from.

I went for the one in the top left corner. I thought it was the one that most resembled Cecil :).

I had the tattoo drawn on my left wrist. It’s a spot that’s visible if I want it to be, but also easily hidden by a long sleeve shirt or jacket.

Initially I was going to have it placed on my right wrist but I realized it would then be visible every time I shake someone’s hand. That’s great for meeting new friends but potentially problematic at work since some people still frown upon tattoos.

From start to finish I believe the entire process only took about 15 – 20 minutes. Before I knew it the cling wrap was being applied (to keep the wound safe from the elements) and I was all done!

Did it hurt? Does a bear shit in the woods?  Yes.

The inner wrist is considered to be one of the most painful spots to get a tattoo because the skin is really thin and there are a lot of nerves running through it. I definitely felt pain during the entire process but it wasn’t horrible.

I would say most of the time the pain was only a 4 out of 10, although the tail is drawn directly on a tendon and that was probably a 7 out of 10 on the pain scale. I have a low threshold for pain though so others might not find it so painful!

None of it was so bad that it would shy me away from getting a second tattoo. In fact I already have an idea of what I want next :). I guess the saying is true: tattoos are addicting!

I am really happy with the way this one came out and I’m glad I got it done. I never thought I would be brave enough to do it.

It kind of already feels like the tattoo has been there forever. Maybe because I’ve been thinking about it nonstop for a few weeks!

In addition to the tattoo, I was feeling spendy this weekend and also made a little trip to Ulta. If you like makeup/beauty stuff definitely give the vlog a watch :).

Here’s what I got:

Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara
Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder
Pacifica Sea Foam Face Wash (the BEST ever)
Pacifica Wake Up Beautiful Sleepover Mask
OGX Fiber Full Dry Shampoo
OGX Silky Blowout Thermal Spray
Ulta Mattifying Balm for Oil Control
– Essence Essentials mascara, waterproof eyeliner and dip eyeliner

As for running I actually didn’t do any of it this weekend. Unfortunately I started experiencing a little bottom of foot pain last Wednesday that felt even worse on Thursday.

☀️believe, conquer, achieve. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I think it’s just that my current running shoes are getting pretty worn. I’ve ordered a new pair and am expecting them today!

Does it annoy anyone else when you have to order the same exact running shoes? Like, I want another pair of Glycerins, but I don’t want them in the same color scheme. Unfortunately I have wide feet and can only order the black and pink pair until they update the shoe. Maybe I’ll spray paint them :).

Tell me about you — do you have a tattoo? How did you decide on the design/placement?

How did your running go this weekend?

That is such a pretty tattoo! Did you draw it yourself? it’s very classy!

I don’t have any tattoos, and no intentions at this moment of getting one.

I ran 8 miles this Sunday! after thinking that I would not be able to get any miles in at all!!

Noooo I wish I could draw ANYTHING but I can’t. I found an example of a tattoo I liked on Pinterest and brought it to the tattoo artist who then drew up some unique ones for me 🙂

Oh wow! That’s a great tattoo. It turned out so pretty!! Does the tattoo peek out from under your Garmin watch band?? I couldn’t get that spot because I always wear a watch.
I ran 8 miles on Sunday. Was feeling the hammies most of the time. Boo on that. But afterwards felt very accomplished and will be back at it again (for better or worse I guess!!). Running makes me stupid like that. 🙂

Thanks! Ahh another reason it was a good idea to get the tattoo on my left wrist is that I wear my regular watch and my Garmin on my right wrist! I only wear a small, thin bracelet on my left wrist so it works!

I absolutely adore your tattoo. It is perfect for you. Did Adam go with you? Did you cry? Sweat? And I can’t wait to watch your Vlog tonight! I hope your foot pain is nothing. Does it feel like PF?

Thank you! YES Adam went with me and was allowed to sit next to me. I was pretty nervous when it came time so I’m glad he was able to be there :).

OMG I had not even thought about PF until you said it. I am not going to look up the symptoms because I cannot go down that rabbit hole on a Monday. I have enough things to worry about! haha

Oh, I didn’t cry and didn’t even come close to it. Most of the pain wasn’t too bad. I think when people say it’s comparable to getting a cat scratch that’s a good example … and something I am used to with my abusive cat 😉 On the tendon it hurt really bad and I had to breathe through it but it was over pretty fast! I think if I had to have a lot of work done on the tendon I would have cried!

I did not break into a cold sweat or anything. I was nervous but also resolute. I had watched a bunch of youtube videos on saturday of people getting a wrist tattoo and none of them died so that comforted me 🙂

That is an awesome tattoo! Love the cat choice 🙂 I always said if I finished 26.2 I would a very small heart with just a shade of pink with 26.2 in the middle, but since I didn’t have a wonderful race I felt different after I finally did it LOL If i ever run another i may do it!

I have two tattoos! One is pet related! I used to be terrified of dogs, so my parents got us a puppy to help me get over the fear. It worked really well (he was my brother basically), so when he passed unexpectedly, I got a V and a pawprint (his name was Cinco).

But anyway! I just started reading your blog probably two or three weeks ago, and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all your words on running and life and everything. I’m excited to be caught up in your running journey. I’ve only just started running, and it has been really helpful to read your blog along the way. 🙂 I hope you’ll consider me a new (but dedicated) follower, and I’m looking forward to being able to comment in real time!

Hi Monica! Welcome to the run club I’m glad you’re here 🙂

That sounds like such a sweet tattoo to honor Cinco. I’m glad he helped you get over your fear of dogs. I was scared of dogs as a kid too. I loved them and wanted one sooooo badly but every time I was around one I was terrified of it!

The tattoo looks cute, good call on switching wrists! I had a pretty good run this Sunday. Not 100% yet, but I felt I had gas in my tank at the end.

I wrote almost LITERALLY the exact same thing – that my tattoo felt like it had already been there forever once I got it. I think that’s a sign it was the right choice. It’s like you’ve been thinking of it so long, it truly belongs on you!

You are right – tattoos are addictive! Once you get one, you just want another, and another, and another – that’s how I have four! 🙂
