I LOVE That Feeling You Get After a Great Run!

I would like you all to bow your heads and take a moment of silence … because I killed that progression run last night!

Finished up the last mile at 5K goal pace and then collapsed in a puddle of my own sweat. Isn’t it funny how that’s the BEST feeling?!

One thing I really need to work on: my breathing.

During the last quarter mile I kept reminding myself to keep my breathing as even as possible, but in the end I was still gasping for air. No side stitches though so that’s a plus.

Last night was the first night I went to log a progression run in the Runner’s World Training Log (the new log I am using) and I noticed they don’t have an option for progression runs:

I don’t understand how they have interval, tempo, fartlek but not progression…? Am I missing something? Am I not understanding the terminology correctly? Did RW do this just to drive me crazy?

The only thing that is helping me get over the frustration of the RW log is that … Adam and I booked a cruise yesterday! We actually sail one week from today! It’s just a short, 4-day caribbean cruise to Cozumel and back but I am really looking forward to getting away and relaxing.

    Ooh I am so envious you get to go on a Caribbean cruise! We have been singing calypso music and reggae, listening to steel drums and Bob Marley in 4th grade music class these past two weeks…. You wouldn’t believe how many of my 9 yr old students have been on Caribbean cruises!! What am I doing wrong in life that I have never done that in my 31 yrs and they have done it before they turned 10!!!??

      I know what you mean! I didn’t go on my first cruise until I was 25 I think.

      Honestly though, if I had kids I think a cruise is exactly the type of vacation I would take them on because once you pay for your tickets, you don’t have to worry about paying more for meals and so on. It seems like for a family it would be a cost efficient vacation!

      PS: Plus your trip to Hawaii this year is going to be so much more exciting!

    Great job on the run! I’m totally jealous of the cruise, that sounds amazing. πŸ™‚ I just try to sync up my breathing with my steps (in 3 out 3 or something like that), but sometimes I forget and end up with side stitches, whoops.

      I tried to sync up my steps with my breathing too, but it didn’t work … at one point I caught myself holding my breathe while counting my steps. Apparently I can chew gum and walk at the same time, but not breath and run fast!

    I right now tend to double pull deep in my nose and push out when I feel my breathing isn’t syncing with my running, but I need to learn to use deeper belly breathing more. I catch myself mouth breathing too much and then I get a cramp. it’s hard trying to re train your self to what comes “natural”
    The cruise looks amazing πŸ™‚ I have never been on one.

    oh man i use RW log too, and no progressive run used to drive me nuts, but i list it as Tempo as well, because it’s similar.

    There’s no perfect way to breathe. I’m a total mouth breather because i have a deviated septum. You have no idea how many times i’ve heard, in through your nose out through your mouth. Nope. Doesn’t work for me ! Breathing while running (slow or fast) is an individual thing. Everyone breathes a little differently, but what I concentrate on –even while sprinting, is to be in control of my breath. Steady and controlled breathing!
