I Need…

Monday mornings, right?

I’m happy to rewind back to the weekend if you are.

Friday was full of meetings at work. My day literally flew by at the speed of light!

When I left the office at 6pm I was glad to have plans to see my friend Aislinn for a girls night. We sawΒ Cinderella at the dine-in movie theater.

Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother was great! At first I didn’t recognize her with blond hair. I kept thinking, “where do I know that mouth from?” and then I realized it was Bellatrix Lestrange.

If you’re looking for a cute, feel good movie to see I’d recommend Cinderella!

Saturday was full of exciting things like watching Cecil sleep in various different spots, and furiously refreshing the DHL tracking webpage to see when my Garmin would be delivered.

Adam came down with a cold earlier in the week and wanted to just stay home and rest, so Cecil and I followed suit.

After sitting around for most of the day, I hit the gymΒ for a short run and to try out some moves from the Goran Dragic workout I posted about on Saturday.

I ended up doing:

  • 2 mile run
  • 3 planks, 60 seconds each (~20 second rest in between)
  • Double hip extension, held for 60 sec.
  • Up and downs, 30 reps
  • Diagonal situps, 20 reps each side
  • Deep squat press outs, 25 reps w/10lb dumbbell
  • Flutter kicks, 25 ***

When doing the flutter kicks my right hip starting feeling really uncomfortable so I stopped. My hip has been feeling good all week, but I guess it’s not fully healed.

My plank PR is 2 minutes, and I’ve never really tried to go beyond that. I found that the three 60 second planks in fairly quick succession were easy, so I might go for a 3 minute plank this week!

On Sunday I woke up too late to do my long run in the morning, so I sipped tea and watched the live stream from LA. I had hoped to see Sage Canaday get his OTQ, but sadly he missed out on it by two minutes.

Not bad for a guy who has been focused on 50-milers and 100K races for a while now though!

I also checked in on Lizzy and Irene who both battled the heat in LA and kicked butt! Way to go ladies! I can’t wait to read about your races!

Aaaaaannnd A HUGE CONGRATS to Amanda who ran her first marathon this weekend!

I’m really glad that I live in the Internet-age and have so many awesome, inspiring (online) runner friends!

Best part of your weekend?Β
What do you consider “sleeping in”?
These days anything after 9am is sleeping in for me, but I fondly remember the days when 1pm was sleeping in! haha

Lately sleeping is 7am for me! And its not vey often that I can sleep that late!
Go for the 3 minute plank! You can do it! I find that scrolling through instagram while I plank helps the time pass.

I would’ve associated the fairy godmother with the girl from Fight Club! I don’t think I got past the 4th HP movie, but I did read all the books.

I never saw Fight Club! I see it on TV all the time but always seem to flip it on towards the end.

I saw Sage missed it yesterday by 2 minutes, poor guy- all those miles, that is terribly frustrating for sure. His time is very impressive. Guys have some really tough standards to qualify! Well so do the ladies…
I like the workout! I was not my usual motivated self and ditched any kind of work out Sunday.
Your Monday morning saying is perfect.

We had similar Sundays, I was totally unmotivated yesterday. I got all dressed and walked outside for my long run, felt the heat, and then walked back inside and ended up taking an unexpected nap. Oy!

I saw Sage instagram a pic of himself at the beach with his girlfriend after the race. I don’t think he was too sad about missing the OTQ, haha

Eeeeee THANK YOU KRISTINA! I seriously love blogger friends and all the support that comes from the blogging community! You’re the best!!!!

I “slept in” on Saturday. 9:30!!! It was freaking amazing!!!

Your coffee/cocaine pic speaks to me today. I had horrible sleep last night and I am not functioning correctly right now. I forgot my lunch. πŸ™ Boohoo. So now I will be tired AND hangry.

Oh no! That really stinks, but I am in the same boat. I had a rough time getting to sleep last night too. I took an unexpected nap in the afternoon that left me tossing and turning well passed midnight! ugh.

Dummy here – what is a QTQ?

I think 2:00 is also my plank PR. Back in January I started a 31-day plank challenge that, if I had finished, would have had me building up to a 5 minute plank by the end of the month so I was starting to get good at planks before I fell off the wagon.

Last week when I finally did some strength training, I tried 3 1:00 planks with 30 sec rest in between. I made it through but for the next two days my abs were sore like I’ve never felt before. Yeesh!

Ah, sorry, OTQ = Olympic Trails Qualifier

Yep! Planking leaves my abs sore when I do it for longer than usual too. I’m usually good the next day, but on the second day after I REALLY feel it!

I fell off the wagon with my plank training–time to start again. I don’t think I am even near 2 minutes.
Sleeping in is probably 7am–Then my youngest is up and wants to make breakfast so, I feel like I need to be awake “just in case”…
Best part of my weekend…My youngest daughter, Lily, sang a song at her “soup and song” night at school. She stood up, on stage, and sang her heart out–amazing. The best thing is that she overcame her fear of singing in public!

That’s so great, way to go Lily!

Oh man, I remember the days of getting up super early on the weekends when I was a kid. I love watching Double Dare in bed – I think that came on at 6am. Now you will never find me awake that early unless I have a flight to catch or a race to run! haha

  8. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola

So lately since I’ve been hanging out home recovering, I’ve been sleeping until noon. How awful is that? I have a doctor’s appointment at 2:30pm today and had to set an alarm to make sure I had enough time to get shower, get ready, and get there on time. In my defense, I have been up really late at night dealing with my knee but man, I know I’m going to be in for a rude awakening when I go back to work. I normally have to get up for work at 5am and sometimes even wake up on my own at 4:45am. I hope that isn’t too much of a shock to my system once I do go back to work!

You deserve all the rest! With the pain killers and everything I think following your body’s time clock is probably the best way to roll. Getting back into the habit for work may be hard though!

Adam sleeps in every Sunday until noon! I don’t know how he does it!

  9. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

Dine-in movies are the best. I really want to see Cinderella and am begging my husband to go with me. Be honest, do you think he would like it? He’s pretty easy and open to most movies, but I’m wondering if it would be to foo-foo girly? Theater or DVD?

Yay for all of the kick-ass marathoners and racers this weekend. Our local Max King got his OTQ. Our town is going crazy celebrating. πŸ™‚

My theater makes these amazing carne asada tacos with garlic aoili sauce that I LOVE! Mmm!

Cinderella isn’t a movie I would take Adam to. I think it’s more of a movie to see with your girlfriends! This version of Cinderella focuses more on Ella’s relationship with her dad than other versions do. Just a warning that I totally cried!

  10. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

I really love Helena Bonham Carter but for awhile she was overexposed for me…every Tim Burton movie had her in it! But I do love that side-by-side picture…funny what stage makeup can do! She can play both light and dark so well!

Oh yes I do remember the Tim Burton craziness. I boycotted all of that and never saw any of the movies!

I do think she was literally the PERFECT Bellatrix Lestrange!

  11. Courtney @ Running For Cupcakes

Oh my gosh wasn’t Cinderella amazing?! I only wish we had a dine-in movie theater here!

7am is pretty much sleeping in for me anymore – weird since I used to think getting up at 7 was early:)

I cannot imagine 7am being sleeping in! 7am is about when I wake up each day for work… and most days I hit snooze at least once! haha

  13. Lizzy

Lol, that “more than coffee” is exactly how I’ve been feeling all day. I just needed a little something extra.

Thanks for the shoutout! The best part of my weekend was my post-race brunch with my SO. I was riding high on the PR and felt pretty good after I got some fluids and food.

I bet you were riding that high! I checked in on you a few times during the race and was so proud of you for kicking butt out there and earning that PR in less than perfect conditions! Incredible!

  14. Jennifer

Haha you are too funny “where do I know that mouth from”…her mouth is very unique after looking at both pictures! I really want to see Cinderella…I think I will ask my mom to go with me (she wants to go to the new dine in theater…Ive never tried it)
