I Passed A Lot of People

What a weekend! Saturday kicked off with the Fort Lauderdale 5K. When my alarm went off at 5:30am I wondered why I signed up for this race at all. I’m just never going to be a morning person!

I tried to convince Adam that we should stay in bed, but he insisted that we run this race (and I’m the runner in the family?). We arrived to the race late — oops.

When we got to the starting line they were just cleaning things up but had not moved the timing mat yet, so we were able to get an official start. The race had started about 10 minutes prior so we had some catching up to do!

It was interesting to see no one in front of me except Adam (he runs much faster), and then to catch up with the slow walkers then the fast walkers and run/walkers and finally the runners. I have never passed so many people in my life! haha

I went out fast in mile 1 but then eventually settled into my happy pace (aka not a PR-worthy pace and I knew it). Whatever the thing is that makes people competitive is just not inside of me, and I’m okay with that. I really just like running.

If I were to make an excuse it would be that the late start threw me off mentally a little bit and I never really got focused.

I finished in 39:48 with an avg. pace of 12:49. ย So, it wasn’t a PR day, but I’m not too bummed about it. There will be plenty of opportunities to run 5Ks after the half next weekend and before I start marathon training.

Adam finished in 27:46 with an avg. pace of 8:56. His PR is in the 24s but he barely trained for this 5K so he was still really happy with his time (as he should be!). If he put any kind of effort into training for a 5K I think he would be really, really good. He “hates” running though.

Yesterday I worked on some spring cleaning and also the Spring Collection 2014 for Lilypad Candles (my soy candle shop).

I’ll be debuting five new soy candle scents next month : ) These guys are just waiting to be labeled and then photographed!

While I was cleaning I found this in a cabinet:

catlo

Adam won’t let me put it up because it’s so corny — and I agree that it is — but it’s also kind of cute too, isn’t it?

To finish up spring cleaning I finally added the rest of the canvas boxes to my shelving:

Each one holds some of my candle supplies so that they are not all over the house any more!

It was a busy but fun weekend, and now I am really looking forward to this coming weekend. We’re leaving for Disney on Friday. Saturday we’ll hit the race expo early in the morning and then rest up and eat delicious food before the Princess Half on Sunday!

Have you ever arrived to a race late?

Whoah-10 minutes late would throw me off. What time did the race start? I have only been late starting at one race when I got there early but the porta potty lines were outta control. Oh well. I am always super early to everything though, unless I am with David and he makes me late~

It started at 7:30am, which is not too early at all … unless you’re me and love sleeping in so much ๐Ÿ™‚ We probably should have taken the car to get to the starting line on time, but I really wanted to walk there as a small warmup. Oh well!

Nice job on the 5K! And for passing all those people!! It is better not to push it anyway since you have the half next weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

For starting the race 10 minutes late, you should be SO proud of all those people you passed!!

Haha it was awesome because I don’t think I have ever passed anyone in a race before. I sort of felt like a rockstar runner even if the majority of people I passed were walkers lol.

I didn’t realize your half was so soon! I a lot of bloggers whose blogs I read are running it! Congrats on passing so many people even though you started 10 min late! Maybe you should always be 10 minutes late??? I was in the bathroom during the start of the Baltimore Marathon but it was so huge I was not concerned. When I got back to my corral, we still were waiting for the people ahead of us to move. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh wow, that’s so crazy! Yes, I think being late is a definite morale booster. Getting to pass all the walkers is good for the ego ๐Ÿ™‚ haha

Great job on that 5K! I’m always afraid of being late for races and wind being way too early instead. I hope to see you this weekend!

I’m usually that way too. For the half last November I was there over an hour early, but this time I just could not get myself out of bed!

See you this weekend when we finally become princesses! ๐Ÿ™‚
