I Ran 0 Miles This Weekend (BAD!)

Last night I had to send a really uncomfortable email to my coach: I told her that I didn’t run at all this weekend. I should have texted her earlier but like a guilty child I put off telling her as long as possible.

Truthfully, most of this weekend I felt really crappy. My co-workers all have little kids who have just gone back to school and the common cold is going around. On Saturday I was supposed to run a 5K in Davie and then round that off with a few additional miles for a total of 8. Instead I overslept and then just kept right on sleeping all damn day.

I woke up once to move from the bed to the couch and then I was right back to sleep. Cecil kept me company as I moved from the bed to the couch and then back to the bed.

What would I do without my best napping buddy? BTW, have I told you how much Cecil loves his haunted house? I love that he loves it!

Sunday I dragged myself out of bed and popped some Advil because I had the worst headache ever. Luckily it went away in time for us to head out to the Miami Dolphins game.

Being a season ticket holder for a team that is not playing up to their potential is REALLY HARD. This game was so so so incredibly disappointing. We left at the beginning of the 4th quarter so we could go grocery shopping before the store closed. Yes, that’s how bad the game was!

It’s crazy to remember that this time last year we were in London watching the Dolphins play at Wembley Stadium! That was so much fun, I really hope we get to do that again at some point.

Planning our next trip overseas is on my to-do list for after Chicago (Spain or Italy? I can’t decide!), but right now I’m zero’d in on the midwest.

This lovely little piece of mail arrived over the weekend:

Yep, Chicago just became tangible. I have something I can hold in my hands to remind me that this race is less than two weeks away! OMG! Can’t wait!

Today I need to get back on track with my running to finish out this taper the right way. No excuses!

How did your long run go this weekend?
Watch any football? I hope your team played better than the Dolphins!

It sounds like you probably needed that rest on Saturday! You will get back on track…you’ve already put in all the hard work:)

Thanks Lisa! I am impressed by how much I slept in one day, haha. It was a different kind of PR 😉

It sounds like you NEEDED to relax this weekend so I am glad you got to do it. Cats are THE BEST buddies when all you want to do is lay in bed. I slept until 11 on Saturday morning and both kitties slept with me the whole morning- Jelly at my feet and Chrissy was right up in my grill, where he belongs.

I think Cecil was really happy with my change of plans 😉

Cecil tries to get up in my grill somedays. I think it’s the sweetest thing that he wants to sleep so close to my face, but unfortunately I’m really allergic to cats … 🙁 If I let him sleep close to my face I know I’m going to end up with swollen eyes. I still allow it sometimes though… lol

I am a big believer that if you sleep all day like that then your body truly needed it! I hope you enjoy your time in the Midwest….I’m from Indiana but lived in Chicago for a year and loved it. 🙂

I think you’re right! Thanks so much! I can’t wait for the race and then digging in to all of the amazing food Chicago has to offer! 🙂

DON’T WORRY. It’s taper. If there’s any time it’s okay to skip a couple days of running, it’s now. You’ve already put in all the training, that’s not lost. You still have two more weeks to keep the legs moving a little bit. Breathe. You’re going to be just fine 🙂 If it’s really bothering you that much, I would just add 1-2 miles onto each of your runs this week. But I really think you will be fine!!

Thanks Hanna! What would I do without your always reliable and solid advice?!!!

It sounds like you needed to rest and take care of yourself. I’m sure your coach will understand. I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry you weekend didn’t go as planned, though it sounds like you needed the rest. At least it is better to get this cold out of the way now then to be sick the weekend of the race. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Don’t feel bad one bit! I get the feeling…I’m running Twin Cities in 6 days, but I’ve run twice in the last eight days due to illness (I’m sure it’s the run of the mill “back to school” cold that all my family and coworkers are getting, but it sure wiped me out). At this point, I’m hoping the extra rest will give me a little boost for race day!

    1. Kristina

Ohhh I like thinking of it that way! Great perspective!

  8. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

Sometimes we need a couple extra rest days; it sounds like you needed them. I tend to get sick during taper and then my tapers are too long/intense because I take LOTS of time off, so I hope you’re avoiding a taper-cold!

[…] night was technically a rest day for me, but since I didn’t run at all over the weekend I decided to get in a couple of easy miles. I’m glad I did because I didn’t go out to […]

Sounds like you needed that rest. This time next year, you’ll never hear yourself say “man I wish I got that 8 miler in” 🙂 Rest up and see you soon!

Chicago will be here before you know it! Sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling 100% and did not get in a run this weekend. Hey, sometimes the body just needs a break. At least you are tapering and you didn’t skip a long run!

My Seahawks finally walked away with a win. I feel like NFL has been crazy this year. Some unexpected teams are really stepping up this year. Hope your Dolphins can bounce back!

I ran zero miles as well so I’m just going to say we’ll make up for it on the 11th lol. Cecil is super adorable!!! I still did not get my Chicago info pack! Should I panic?
