I Ran 12 Miles and It Was Easier Than 11 Miles!

This morning I ran 12 miles and it was a much stronger run than the 11 really hard miles I did last weekend!!!!!!!

I made sure to stay on top of my fueling situation and I really think that made all the difference in the world! Before my run this morning instead of just having liquid calories I had a bagel with pb on top (so delicious!) and then I took some snacks for on the run.

I packed more than I needed because I wanted to have options. Sometimes you just don’t know what you’ll be in the mood for during a run! I took Twizzlers, pb GU and peanut m&m’s. Not the healthiest fair, I admit, but at 4:30 in the morning it felt like a good idea.

I ended up only eating the Twizzlers but they did the job! : ) I ate a Twizzler every mile from mile 2.5 until mile 8. After mile 8 my stomach just didn’t want anything besides water, but since I was feeling pretty good I figured that was okay.

It was crazy windy today at the beach — like CRAZY windy. I don’t think you can tell from this photo, but I did hear another runner exclaim that she thought the wind was blowing at 250mph!

I think the main reason why I KNOW the food helped is because my ppm (pace per mile) was consistent. The last couple runs when my energy would be gone, there was nothing left for me to push with even though my mind was still saying go-go-go!

Today my legs felt pretty trashed at mile 11 but my mind said go-go-go and my body still had the energy to keep pace. I am pretty happy about that!

And now I am off to take a small nap and then head out to begin Adam’s bday celebrations!

PS: I chafed and it’s not fun. Chafing is really the only bad part of being a runner.

How did your Saturday run go?

Is the weather cooling down where you are? Tell me the temps! I want to be jealous!

– It was 76ish during my run

Yay for a good long run! Sometimes you have bad runs and other times you have good ones. Just remember the good ones going into your race.

I am so glad that this last long run was a good one. I think it really will give me a lot of confidence going into the half! : )

Ahh, yay!!! So glad to hear this!!

Chafing is the worst. I have a permanent chafe mark where my sports bra band rests…but I’ll sacrifice it for the chance to run!

      Thank you! 🙂

Yes, I think I am developing a little scar where my sports bra band rests. I have been putting a little Body Glide on there but it may be too late. Definitely a worthy sacrifice though!

No Saturday run for me, but it’s WAY TOO COLD OVER HERE ALREADY! My last run (6 miles) was in 41 degree weather and it was bitter and windy. I lost feeling in my cheeks, ears, nose, and mouth and it took about half an hour post-run for the feeling/blood to completely circulate again in my hands!

    I don’t envy 76 degree weather though, that’s nasty 🙂

When is your half?! Your training is going AWESOME! 12 miles is SUCH a big accomplishment!

WOW 41 degrees! I would like to try running in weather that cold just once to see what it is like. I don’t know if I would survive though. I visited Boston in the winter once and almost died from the cold!

My half is in less than 2 weeks – Nov 10th!!!

Congrats on the long run, it cracks me up you ate twizzlers lol whatever works! I usually take sport beans from jellbelly. Are wearing a heart Monitor? Just wondering I used to chafe awful if I got lazy and didn’t wash the strap after every outing. Maybe try a different brand of body glide if that all from a sports bra. I have the Dick’s brand and that works well.

Hi Karen! I do not wear a heart monitor. I have a little chafe mark from my sports bra but here I was actually talking about chafing somewhere else. I would say where but it would be TMI lol
