This morning I ran 12 miles and it was a much stronger run than the 11 really hard miles I did last weekend!!!!!!!
I made sure to stay on top of my fueling situation and I really think that made all the difference in the world! Before my run this morning instead of just having liquid calories I had a bagel with pb on top (so delicious!) and then I took some snacks for on the run.
I packed more than I needed because I wanted to have options. Sometimes you just don’t know what you’ll be in the mood for during a run! I took Twizzlers, pb GU and peanut m&m’s. Not the healthiest fair, I admit, but at 4:30 in the morning it felt like a good idea.
I ended up only eating the Twizzlers but they did the job! : ) I ate a Twizzler every mile from mile 2.5 until mile 8. After mile 8 my stomach just didn’t want anything besides water, but since I was feeling pretty good I figured that was okay.
It was crazy windy today at the beach — like CRAZY windy. I don’t think you can tell from this photo, but I did hear another runner exclaim that she thought the wind was blowing at 250mph!
I think the main reason why I KNOW the food helped is because my ppm (pace per mile) was consistent. The last couple runs when my energy would be gone, there was nothing left for me to push with even though my mind was still saying go-go-go!
Today my legs felt pretty trashed at mile 11 but my mind said go-go-go and my body still had the energy to keep pace. I am pretty happy about that!
And now I am off to take a small nap and then head out to begin Adam’s bday celebrations!
PS: I chafed and it’s not fun. Chafing is really the only bad part of being a runner.
